Hello, I was wondering if you guys could possible help me out. I've been trying to brain storm what I could do for armor to cover my mid-section, in this case, going underneath a small chest piece I've been working on. The best thing I've come up with so far for my stomach is more or less a set of leather ribs. Each plate is about 2-3 inches wide, and no more than half an inch apart (maybe less) in any of the sections. The sections are riveted together using long strips of thinner leather in the joints to give it more motion and flexibility. Then from there it is riveted to a shirt for stability, and overall aesthetic reasons. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Armor/shirt2-1.jpg Now the problem I am having is that the MoA says rather clearing that no finger catches are allowed on armor. Would my design be faulty due to this.. or am I overthinking how people check armor? Questions, comments, ridicules, other ideas for mid-section armor.. I'm open for all Thank-you
-RyOt (and sorry for the terrible picture.. paint never was my strong suit )

If it implements in the way it looks, it should be fine. If you wanted to be absolutely certain, though, you could always overlap the bands. And yeah, I just finished making myself a cuirasse of lamellar, and my condolences go out to the females who are trying to design armour to fit their torso . . . anything but maille or single plates sounds like a nightmare to implement . . . not that I haven't seen some amazing female torso armours out there, but the basic level pieces are just so much harder to make for a woman than a man. Looks like a cool design, though, good luck! *And my apologies if you aren't a girl, but that image looks like a female figure. -------------------- Oisín Leathshúileach ua Duibhne Ard Laech Fíanna Cú Ruadh An Fhírinne in aghaidh an tSaoil--Truth against the world.

A placart is stomach protection. If you want some good mobility and a bad ass look I'd say go with a chain shirt and a placart over that. You get your stomach protection and still have mobility from the maille. Placart as below I can't find an image but the naille under a placart was done in "The messenger" the new Joan of arc movie. I have no historical reference for it but it does look pretty bad ass! -------------------- "I'd rather live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a sheep"

yeah i think so, then again you can always do leather! It's so new and unseen on the field Seriously though have fun making your armour whether it be metal or leather we're all here to have a good time! -------------------- "I'd rather live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a sheep"

And yet another question from me.After meandering about the boards, I've seen armor that looks as if it was stitched together in places in order to get it to form properly. (The breastplate on the thread below or above this one). Does any one happen to know what kind of thread is used/how to go about doing it? ... I have an idea

Yup fake sinew. Now going about it is kinda tricky, it involves cutting a dart in the leather, making the holes for the sinew to pass through and a two needle method for the actual sewing part. -------------------- Knight Errant Mirelle I don’t want to come to Dagorhir to re-live another man’s history, I’ve come to write my own. - Sir Magnus of Narnia "For Narnia and for Aslan!!!"

I use sinew on my gear for that organic look, but there are many other types of thread that can be used (and sold by tandy). Most are nylon (nylon is one of your stronger artificial threads) and come in many different colors (to match your armor dye). The artificial sinew is waxed linen -or- nylon thread and comes in several types (besides color differences there are 3-thread woven sinew and single strand). There a bunch of specialty punches, awls and tools for making your sewing holes. I have found the easiest way for me to make my sewing holes in armor grade leather is my dremel with a fine drill bit. -------------------- Gronk Skar Iathakû. Way to show me up I usually meassure out the holes then use an awl and rawhide hammer to punch them.
