Slightly confused about layering armor.

Postby Bercthun the Mad » Wed Jul 12, 2017 9:48 am

So, I understand the minimum requirements for both metal and leather armor types, but I am curious to know if layering armor makes a difference, for example, using a leather cuirass that is below the minimum 3/16, but wearing it over a chain mail shirt? Or, using leather bracers that fall below the mark as backing for metal ones? Can anyone offer some insight on this?

That's sort of up to the armor checker, but in my experience the vast majority of people check each piece of armor individually. Wearing a failing leather cuirass over passing chain probably won't fly, but you can definitely use thinner leather as a backing for legal metal armor. Plenty of people with metal splinted bracers use thinner leather for the backing.

Fair enough, I think at the end of the run Ill just pony up the cash for some metal bracers, and skip the chest piece in favor of just wearing my mail, it seems like it will weigh less that way.
