Troll Schedule
Thursday the 6th - 3pm to 8pm
Friday the 7th - 9am to 8pm
Saturday the 8th - 9am to 4pm

Registration fees are the same as ever, $15 if you pre-reg through our website (http://unconsun.org/War_Registration.html) or in person at one of our various practices or invasion battles scheduled in the KC metro area. Pre-Reg is closing on August 31st, so be sure you pre-reg on time!

We are changing things up a bit this year, since we've had quite a few late arrivals over the past several events. We are no longer allowing people to arrive on-site outside of the troll hours of operation if you have not pre-reg'd. If you pre-reg, then you can arrive on site outside the normal troll hours, speak with security, and get escorted to the appropriate camp to sign-in and receive your event token. We will not be waking up our troll ladies to take money for folks past 8pm on Thursday or Friday.

When troll closes on Saturday at 4pm, that's the end of admission. If you have friends who want to come late on Saturday to hang out - they must show up on site before 4pm. They are permitted to leave the grounds and return later, but they will be stopped by security to see their tags if they leave and return later on.

Battles

Battles are still being finalized, but we will have a full schedule of scenario battles for both Friday and Saturday, as well as the continuation of the Night Battles starting as early as we get the light towers delivered to us.

Tournaments

Tournaments are being held by the wonderful Shatterhaze, along with others of the Mirkwood/Arangweth/Byzantium contingent, and will be posted soon to detail exactly what tournaments are being held.

Bardic Competition

You are cordially invited to A Night of Awe and Celebration in the courts of Bottomlow Glen during The War of the Iron Fist. Come be entertained during our first annual Battle Of The Bards!. Our Storytellers will question your bravery, and delight your imagination. Their Voices will raise your spirits and rally your heart. Visit our Fb group page for full instructions on how to enter into the competition.  (FB page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/BattleoftheBards/)

All Bards, please submit your songs/stories to Mindy McVay in private message, before August 15th. The Top 5 bards in each category will perform for all guests! The Categories are: Song, Story, and Instrumental. Judging guidelines soon! You MUST be 21 to Compete and Enter into camp!

Clean-Up Dates
TBD - there is a tentative schedule for one to be held on August 12th, including a day battle on site to get in some practice and enjoy the farm since we'll all be there anyway!

Vendors
There will be vendors again this year, with a list of vendors being posted on the War of the Iron Fist page as soon as we (I) finish getting an appropriate list compiled. If you have never vended with us before and wish to do so this year, please contact me via PM here or check out the War of the Iron Fist Facebook Event page to contact the merchant coordinator.

Security
As head of security this event, I'm looking for volunteers! PM me here or on Facebook if you're interested. Keep a close eye on the schedule too, because there's a special security-only shindig going on a some point in the weekend (-hinthint-). Last year security had a blast and we has very few issues. It's a great way to mingle with all the camps and get to know everyone else on-site.

Feel free to PM me or post if you have any questions! I'll be happy to help, and will be updating this post additionally as I receive more information.
2  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Armor For Sale on: June 03, 2012, 10:39:14 pm
So.. I came into possession of some armor from an ex-roommate. It doesn't fit me, nor does it fit my husband - and so we figured there'd be someone in the Dagorhir community who'd be interested in it. The pictures are a lil old, but there's no worse wear on the armor now than there was then. It's even been cleaned since then xD

Image credit goes to White Wolf of the Arcani

I'm open to offers for it at this point. I can deliver to Ragnarok with pre-payment or we can barter it out from there. It'll be coming with me regardless.
3  Events / Event-Related Announcements / Gates of Summer VII - May 6th-9th on: November 24, 2009, 11:13:10 am
Greetings Dagorhirrim! It's that time of year again here in the midwest.. time for us to tell YOU about Gates of Summer VII!

Why so soon? Well that's easy loves.. because not only is this going to be another 4-day event (much like War of the Iron Fist) but this is also to give YOU the opportunity to give YOUR input on the way Gates of Summer rolls out this coming May.

Our official dates? May 6th-9th, 2010 in our usual location in Holden, Missouri. (Never been there? Check out the Google Maps location by the lovely Soulsar! http://www.dagorhir.com/forums/index.php?topic=12116.0 )

Right now details are a tad sketch, because let's face it.. there's a good 6+ months between now and Gates, but there ARE a few things we DO know.

Event Fees: 15.00 for the entire 4 day weekend. Pre-Reg is no longer required to get the $15 entrance fee!

Minors in Attendance: We hate to do this, but our hands have been forced and we are now requesting that anyone under the age of 18 have a parent or a legal guardian on site. This also goes hand in hand with us politely letting everyone know that anyone between the ages of 18-20 who is caught drinking WILL be asked to leave, and if they have no one available in their camp to take them home; we will be forced to call their emergency contact. Likewise, anyone over the age of 21 caught giving a minor alcohol will be asked to leave the event. Dagorhir itself has a zero-tolerance policy and we WILL be enforcing these rules. Period.

Arrival Information: Since we're extending the event to include Thursday, arrival on Thursday is limited. We can't have anyone arriving before 5pm on Thursday, and there will also be an overnight cut-off. This is simply because we can't guarantee we'll have enough people on-hand to handle folks trickling in over night. After the Thursday night cutoff, Troll will re-open on Friday morning at 9am. I don't like to add the emphasis, but we absolutely, POSITIVELY cannot have people arriving before that time. Last event there was apparently some mis-communication somewhere and we had close to 20-30 people on site before Troll had not only opened, but even ARRIVED.

Weapons Check: Since Friday is going to be as chock full of battles as Saturday, we will be holding a weapons check from 9-11AM on both Friday AND Saturday morning. Much like "Rag Rules" - melee weapons/shields/armor checked on Friday will not have to be re-checked on Saturday. Missile weapons will still be checked every day. Please note: the RWC changes have -not- yet taken effect and will therefore -NOT- be enforced on arrows and javelins. However, please be aware that our weapons checking team will be placing a 'Warning' tag on your flight weapons that either are close to, or currently, failing the newest specifications. They will still be legal, but we are doing our best to circumvent potential problems in the future by letting everyone know if their stuff is borderline.

Also, anyone from neighboring realms who's interested in helping in any capacity, please feel free to contact me via the Midwest Boards, Facebook, or even shoot an e-mail or call me and we can discuss the details of the event. I still have need of people to host assorted tournaments, manage the 'heralding team', as well as taking any and all suggestions for battles on Friday and Saturday.

Ideally we're shooting for a 'Rag-style' two days of fighting, with two main 'scenario' battles and then assorted pick up battles carrying on from then on out. So what I need from YOU - are ideas for those pick up battles! Bring your best ideas to PM on the Midwest Boards or e-mail me (that way I have them in print!) and we'll do our best to get Gates of Summer kicked off in the best way possible.

As we get more information regarding things like clean up dates, potential day passes, and the like - I'll add those to the thread as well as keeping this first post updated so everyone sees the most current information. Anyone with any questions, feel free to post here or get in touch with me via another communication device and I'll be happy to answer any questions I have answers to.. or hunt down answers to the ones I don't.

4  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Armor dyeing on: July 06, 2009, 11:56:00 pm
So I've finally grabbed the necessary objects to start on my leather lamellar chest, but I'm curious to what order I should be doing this in.

The leather I'm using is legal thickness, surplus army shoe sole leather (size 14). Incredibly thick (and decently hard on its own) and all in the various left foot, right foot shapes. I'm cutting scales out of it, similar to the lamellar on an SCA Women's website. Would it be more beneficial to dye these before or after I cut the scales out of them? The scales all measure roughly around 2" wide at their thickest and 3" tall from the top to the bottom point. There's not much scrap coming off the soles, so I'm not worried about 'wasting' dye persay.. but I'm more concerned with the finished product if I dye and then cut afterwards.
5  Events / Event-Related Announcements / War of the Iron Fist VI on: June 28, 2009, 09:25:23 pm
It's never too early to start pimping the next events back home (especially since Rag is over). So here I am, to tell YOU - that not only have we solidified the dates for War of the Iron Fist.. but loves, we have EXTENDED it.

That's right, this year War of the Iron Fist is going to be a Four-Day Event!

Going from September 17th-20th, we're already planning on how to make Friday a much more memorable day for fighting and socializing, and putting together an event that will - quite possibly - top every other event Dominion has ever run.

Keep watching this space, we'll be adding information as we finish up details on tournaments, or check out the Midwest boards and PM Kulprit if you wanna get in touch with us and offer your own input on some killer battles, tournaments, or suggestions to help make this one of the best Midwest events out there.

We're still at our same location in Holden, MO (for now!) and you can check us out on the Google Maps thread Soulsar has put together here: http://www.dagorhir.com/forums/index.php?topic=12116.0

EDITED TO INCLUDE:

Event Fees: 15.00 for the entire 4 day weekend -if- you pre-reg! Pre-reg opens up in the beginning of August. Likewise, we'll still be charging the $20 for those paying on-site. For questions regarding day passes, please contact either myself or Nyt on the Midwest boards.

Camp Clean Up Dates: We're doing a camp clean-up event both Saturday, August 29th and September 12th to gear up for War of the Iron Fist. Anyone and everyone from neighboring realms is more than welcome to attend and help prepare for the biggest fall Dagorhir event in the Midwest. Clean up is from 12-4pm and we highly advise long pants, long sleeved shirts, and lots of yard equipment!

We will have people on hand Thursday to handle troll, so don't worry!

6  General / Website / Chapter and Unit leaders who use Geocities - Listen up! on: June 12, 2009, 01:00:09 am
Incase ya'll haven't already become aware, Geocities is going to be closing later on this year. I've been told they're working on a way to export your data (or how to at least back it up in a convenient manner before deletion), but while updating my own unit site I noticed that a handful of the chapter/unit links I was working with were all under Geocities.

There's tons of other free hosting sites, so that's something that may be worth looking into. It'd be epic fails for folks trying to recruit if their entire site goes up in smoke with nothing backed up to load elsewhere :(
7  General / Rules rules rules / Blade Length? on: February 01, 2009, 11:56:27 pm
Alright, I had an interesting weapon come through weapons check today at practice. A guy had made a scimitar-esque sword (I didn't get pictures of it, but the jist of it is like the horrible cheap plastic replica below) and both the upper curve and lower curve passed as blue. Now, it didn't have a stabbing tip on the end... -but- it was padded adequately enough to pass hit test as a blue on the curved end.

Quote
4.2.2 - Blue swords must have a minimum blade length of 12 inches from above the handgrip to the tip and a maximum total length less than 48 inches.

My question is, would the end of that be legal? The blade length of a sword has to be 12", but would that be 12" on each manner of striking surface? Or are we talking just in general? I let it pass today (without hearing anything back from heralds about complaints or w/e) but since I'm running check at Gates of Summer this year, I told him I couldn't promise it'd pass at the event without checking into it. I'd hate to have an argument arise over "Well my sword blade isn't 12", but THAT striking surface isn't 12" either and HIS passed! -insert more whining here-"

Clarification would be super. ^-^
8  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / Wreckreation Nation spot on Sports Soup! on: January 27, 2009, 10:08:34 pm
Hey guys - I'm watching Sports Soup right now and I saw a clip of Badon Hill! -squee- It's at a commercial right now, but I'll recap as best I can. :)
9  General / Rules rules rules / Flail Clarification on: January 06, 2009, 05:19:53 pm
Just asking for a quick rules clarification, seeing as I'm trying to get my bearings straight before we start planning for Gates of Summer.

The MoA on the Dagorhir.com site states:

4.2.5.1. Flail heads must weight a minimum of 4 ounces and minimum circumference of 16 inches measured on separate axes.

However, the updated .pdf states:

4.2.4.1. The ball of a flail must have a minimum circumference of 16 inches (measured at its narrowest point) and weigh a minimum weight of 4 oz.

Which is the correct method to check these? I want to make sure I provide them with the most absolutely correct information I can, so we don't have any cross-game confusion.

Edited because I can't believe I said something so full of fail with such a great Geometry grade :P

Happy Birthday   I couldn't find you on Mirelle's myspace, so I figured I'd give you a shout here.

And if it's not really your birthday, shame on fibbing on the Midwest forums
11  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / Help! on: July 14, 2008, 01:13:00 am
If anyone can identify this person.. PLEASE have them get ahold of me! I'm listed on the Midwest Dagorhir boards under the same battle name. It is very important to me that I talk to her!

Or if she's part of your realm, lemme know.. I'm cool with searching realm sites/forums to find her.
12  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / Searching for Pictures.... on: November 30, 2004, 09:44:00 pm
Ok, it's been brought to my attention that at a prior Ragnarok (not 19) that there was an instance with Maggot and Gump dancing together on Sin Night... and there were pictures taken    If ANYONE can find these pictures anywhere... realm websites, personal collections... whatever the means, I would greatly appreciate it.
13  General / Website / Pirate Ship Charon on: July 10, 2006, 02:38:00 am
Hey, could I get a webmaster to update the link to the Pirate Ship Charon of the Dominion? Our website is now officially: http://www.soul-on-fire.net/   - no /pirate tag on the end of it anymore. It'll redirect, but I'd prefer our main page be displayed.

Thanks guys!
14  General / Rules rules rules / Weapon Construction on: July 30, 2007, 01:17:00 am
Out of a general curiosity of the MoA - I was flipping through the portions about proper weapons checking (about how weapons /must/ be tested on armored people as well as unarmored, etc) and stumbled across the following diagram.
 http://www.dagorhir.com/aratari/images/rules/Dag_weapons.gif

I'm noticing minimum and maximum lengths on items such as flails, spears, and a fuzzy area between the minimum requirement for a 'spear' and the maximum allowed for a 'dagger'. I remember a particular incident at weapons check this ragnarok with a very long dagger (whether it was longer than the diagram states, I'm not sure. No one bothered to look backwards in the book   ) but according to the actual 'Rules' portion of the MoA, there is no ruling that states these maximum/minimum dimensions. We passed the very long pokey thing, on the basis that there was nowhere in the Weapons portion of the MoA that could clearly define it as illegal.

Can I get a clarification if these dimensions are ones we need to be enforcing? Or can we simply tear that page out of our rule books?
15  General / Rules rules rules / Metal clarification on: September 22, 2006, 03:37:00 am

Ok, so I found this REALLY nifty piece on ebay. I bought it mostly for costume, as it was fairly cheap and it looked really nice. I didn't expect it to be in any fashion of a working condition... but to my surprise, it's actually capable of firing arrows. -insert being tickled pink here-

However, therein lies my dillema. I know that weapons cannot have metal cores, and shields.. provided with the proper padding.. CAN have metal cores. However, since a bow is neither swung nor thrusting.. I know it doesn't count as a shield obviously, but would it still apply to the rule on metal cores? The bow itself is bronze, which is even a period metal.. but I don't want to get all giddy, make me some nifty arrows, and then find out it's not usable on the field.

It definitely wouldn't be an every practice weapon. Just one I'd break out for archery tournaments, and the occasional inter-realm/national event. At the worst case scenario, it's a gorgeous piece to carry around and would look smashing with my King Arthur woad costume, which I'm now motivated to finish.

I'd just like a little clarification as to wether or not I can use this as a working bow, or just carry it around to look pretty.

16  General / Rules rules rules / Notary Public? on: July 09, 2006, 11:42:00 pm
I was curious if anyone has ever applied to become a notary for their realm or for convenience in the event of an inter-realm event? I am curious about becoming one, however the state application asks about an employer as though I was becoming a notary due to my work. Does anyone know if there is a different set of applications regarding non for profit organizations like DBGA?
17  General / Rules rules rules / Weapons Checking on: October 27, 2005, 01:26:00 pm
Ok, I've been around a while as far as Dag goes... and I've figured out the ins and outs of checking most weapons (I haven't had experience with bows yet.. but that's beside the point). However, there's something in the air for me right now that I'd like cleared up if possible.

quote:
4.1.8.3.1. Minimum dimensions of 1.25 inch by 3 inches along its entire striking surface.

4.1.8.3.2. Minimum dimensions for single edged bladed weapons are 1.25 by 2.5 inches

I was checking a single sided weapon.. where the sword met the above requirements, but the entire sword passed through the template where it states in 4.1.4 that it can't pass through the 2 1/2 inch hole more than 1/2 an inch. The entire sword.

They argued that it was fine and should pass since it was single edged, since the additional layers of foam if it were double edged, would make the weapon unable to pass through the template. He argued it with me, then took it to someone who's got rank (that I don't   ) and they ultimately passed it saying "be careful".

Nothing against the guy who had it, but not only was the weapon itself unsafe, but he's a fast skirmishing type fighter who I KNOW doesn't even see all his hits landing, and that really struck me as being just plain effed.

Now should the weapon have failed? Or am I just kinda losing my head here?
18  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Bow Repair? on: August 31, 2008, 02:32:00 pm
Alright, so this is pretty awesome and I have to not only share, but I need to get some information from the rest of you.

Today after going to Holden to clean up campsites for War of the Iron Fist (Sept 12-14... shameless plug!), I stopped by this Freight Depot/Flea Market. I was thinking, yanno "Hey, most folks find their bows at flea markets/garage sales/etc maybe I'll get lucky and find an upgrade from my baby bow."

So I look in their limited section of camping/fishing/sports equipment and don't see any bows. However I did find a Riser for a recurve bow, bolts and all. All I need to do is get a set of limbs and a string and I'll be in epic business.

My problem is, there is no brand on the riser. There's actually no marking on it at all. So I don't really know how to shop for replacement limbs. I'm contemplating taking it to a few archery stores around town over this long weekend - but I'm not sure what to expect in price range, or if I can find anything at all. Does anyone have experience re-limbing bows? Particularly recurves? I got an EPIC deal on this Riser (and when I say epic, I mean I only paid TWO BUCKS) and I'd love to be able to put this baby to use.

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions/contacts I'd LOVE to get anything I can out of it. I mean, worst case scenario I can always re-sell it on eBay for a profit.. but I'd rather be able to bring my product out and have the satisfaction of bringing this poor thing back from the abyss of random oddities and shoot people in redemption of it's lost soul.
19  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Glaive construction on: January 12, 2006, 02:31:00 am
A friend of mine is wanting to make a glaive. A short one mind you (around the size of mine, roughly 4 1/2 feet pommel to tip) and she was asking me about using a wooden core. Now, I made mine from sch 40 pvc and I have intentions of rebuilding it on sch 80 because even though I'm not strong enough to flex it anywhere near 45 degrees.. the big buff guys at weapons check are    so I figure sch 80 won't bend nearly as much as 40 will and I'll be safe.

The rules state she can't use axe handle or baseball bat as a core, and that the wooden hafts must be taped in the event the weapon breaks and there's splintering. I believe the core she's looking at is somewhat akin to a broomstick type piece of wood. Would that still be an ok core? I don't see where it would be illegal, but I want to get verification before we go making her weapon.
