1  Events / Ragnarok / Re: A Quick Reminder re: Leather Armor Check at Rag on: June 05, 2013, 10:52:48 am
Dear Hivemind, Balckhawk and Timmourne....what if we don't want to talk RULES....what if we REALLY want to talk FEELINGS...you guys never ever ask me how I FEEL about armor...how Armour affects us and our relationships as foam fighters.

Are you afraid of these feelings...is there a reason why it ALWAYS had to be about following the rules and not abut who you are feeling about the rules...

All im syaing is if we can talk about our mushy insides...how will we ever find common ground with our hardened artificial exoskeletons ??

Just sayin'  Now  can  we PLEEEASE just  cuddle???

3  Gear / Garb & Equipment / Re: $20 garb 2013 contest. on: April 26, 2013, 09:17:59 am
Im plan to win this thing by going "Full Godiva" this year.....is hair free? or should i work in the approx. price for a Dolly Parton wig?

Also, is it going to hurt my chances of winning if my horse is shod in a modern fashion?

Great idea last year and even better idea to make the sequel....I think you should have top three/four finalists in their outfits AT GARB GATES THE FIRST DAY OF FIGHTS!!  as an " i.e. " for slackers that pull the "i woulda but im broke" card
4  Events / Event-Related Announcements / Re: Event Proposal on: April 17, 2013, 03:38:21 pm
THIS THIS THIS is exactly what I envisioned for Britannia Faire....I thought if I grab up some land EVERY Single  unit woudl flock there and build their own damn palisades gate houses and towers....shii......this will be our third season....not a single tower yet....

But hey at least the Uruk Hai have a Gnarly lookin gate built....

We don't have a castle but Britannia Faire woudl be honored to host your WAR!! it is exactly the kind of weekend long events i grew up playing in a game system in the DC Metro area....get there Friday night fighting doesn't stop till early Sunday morning!! THAT!! is an Epic weekend of foam fighting!!

I struggle with modern/mundane profanities worse than most on the field....what i've tried to do of late is right as I am tkaing the field I try and mull over a few choice battle cries...not quite so offensive and most certainly more period...Piss off is a new one I like...I say fuggers now instead of Fuc%ers...still sounds the same but I feel less dirty...and bollocks...my new FAV BOLLOCKS covers just about everything!!
6  Events / Event-Related Announcements / Re: The Third Annual Masque Beltannia, Third Times a Charm! May 3rd-5th on: April 17, 2013, 10:46:18 am
Scheiny, good stuff Mistress!! If it's ok with the May Faire contestants...I think they will eat last. We be sure to save them plenty...so the plan for feas tis to serve familt style at the tables rhater than buffet style like we've done in the past...Revelers will vote durring dinner and the winner shall be announced just before the Ball begins...

And yes a Hoity toity (Sp?) category is a great idea...how the hell did i miss "middle ages evening gown"!!

7  Events / Event-Related Announcements / May Faire Queen pageant questions.... May 3rd-5th on: April 16, 2013, 01:36:53 pm
GREETINGS good Gentles of Dagorhir...the Masque is just around the corner...and Olde Redd needs a bit of input from the attendees...

Ladies (and gents)  any suggestions on pageant segments for the May Faire Queen competition? Last year we did Jug shaking, Talent, naughty corset/belly dancing outfit, and question & answer anything else you'd like to see....or see taken out?

Also just a side note, last years Miss May Faire was all about fun n games...was NOT at ALL a serious "pageant". LOADS of ladies had a blast but a whole lot of them wanted to see this event get a bit of a maturity make over....so we are making that happen and giving it much more pomp and circumstance! This year the May Faire Queen will happen during feast so we have a larger much more captive audience...and will be a GOOD an Proper Pageant!

Looking forward to some excellent feed back.

8  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok University: Teachers and Classes wanted! on: April 05, 2013, 10:30:22 am
I would like to teach a class on beggining drumming if no one has already offered?

-Class title and subject, with a short description of your class: An Intro to campfire drumming.
An hour long round tabel discussion, and instruction on: Drums, history, styles, and basic first skills.   Easy first drum beats.  Fire/drum circle etiquette. Finding a first drum, and closing with the next steps to take to get even better.

-Name(s) of Instructor(s)
Reddwykce du Forrett (mundanely known as David Laime)

-Space requirements (Classroom? Field? etc.)
The band shell at the amphitheater woudl be fine or any covered area out of potential rain/bright sun

-What day(s), and time of day preference (morning or evening), with estimated length of class:
Any afternoon once fighting has concluded for the day 5-7. I woudl think early in the week is better than late just so new drummers can practice their newly acquired skills. Estimated class time will be right at an hour.

-Min/Max class size (if any) no worries i'll drum with 1 or with 1000!

-required materials for students (if any)
drums...if students (veteran drummers and novices alike) can bring more than one AWESOME. that way folks without a drum can participate and folks can try out new and different types of drums.

-materials fees for students(if any) Universal Love baby....pay it forward

Mordecai, As a member of Galadorn it woudl be awesome if you can make Battle of Five Armies.  Galadorn is one of the host realms and as such need volunteers..so you could do two awesome things in one weekend
ONE: have a great time and fight some great fights

TWO: pitch in and help your realm throw a great event!!!

Well Dagorhir!!!  the Spartans, Space Knights and a host of other volunteers  have put a ton of time and effort in thus far....I am certain this will be an event to talk of through the ages...

Lets hope we fill the field with as many fighters as we can!! We will need them for  I have seen the list of "TITANS" to say the very least they are a vicious bunch of Brutes !!! and those are just the female NPC's!!

Bring your big boy battle plans!!! and make haste for the Hills of Britannia!!

The  Faire did in fact weather the storms just fine...Many thanks to the Rangers who journeyed out for  the heavy work effort!!

Uruk Hai camp gate/ wall is as ugly as it ever was...

Askarus....to avoid confusion I say we call relic fighting at midnight ...all relics "resting" camps can be recorded and fighting will resume at (lets get crazy say) 9 am ...relics get reset JUST OUT SIDE camp gates..if you wanna snatch a relic with a surprise element then the dawn patrol needs to be in play...if you wish to defend your relics  have your boys up early.....the only folks getting a good nights sleep..SHALL BE THE GODS!!!

Thrush:  woudl be GREAT to have you out !! but i understand its a drive!!! How ever..as Mistress Schieny mentioned we have no hang ups with waay early arrival and waaay late departure...if a three or four day trip makes more sense for Aratar or long distance travelers ....no worries on when you get here when you leave

....agreed...one of my complaints with Coopers is IT'S BIG!!! was just saying that to Tanhausser..but in a few more years it will not feel that way at all....

I do think Change is inevitable tho...and its never to early to start looking at options...

21  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok 2013 on: June 01, 2012, 01:26:32 pm
Is it "Public record" how much of our event fee goes directly to the camp ground (Coopers) as opposed to into Dagorhirs coffers? I think this will be a major point of discussion when these guys pitch their event site...
22  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok 2013 on: June 01, 2012, 12:21:53 pm
Mistress Rose..you make the best point AGAINST a "Dag owned" site...it woudl be close for some ALL the time....and FAR for lots ALL the time...not to mention that there is a certain joy in wondering what a new event site will offer...

That woudl be my ONLY draw back to a permanent site...

The one fix to this is Multiple Dag owned sites..but then again for every new site new headaches and hard work...

Its not a GREAT solution...I just love to debate..and the opportunity to show Odran IT COULD BE DONE>...was to tempting to pass on...
23  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok 2013 on: June 01, 2012, 12:06:44 pm
.....and for the record Ragnaork has NEVER hit 2000 people i believe a few years back (spring Valley) we peaked at 1600..but Tannhauser woudl be the source for most accurate numbers
24  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok 2013 on: June 01, 2012, 12:04:51 pm
Wow..go back re-read my figures...you must have skimmed things becuse I coudl not have made my numbers more modest...

1000 + attnedees for Rag

1000+ additonal attendees over th course of th year for Baddon Gates pel wars battle of five etc etc

a total of 60$ from 2000 campers over the course of the year..which again is CRAZY underestimated....
25  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok 2013 on: June 01, 2012, 11:51:52 am
.....I did want ot make a quick comment back to Odran and the viabitly of a "Dagorhir Owned" camp site....

You didn't do yuo math right....yes if you did 10 events a year and 100 folks showed up = fail but you skipped our money makers...

Ragnarok 1000 attendees (its much much bigger than that big lets take a VERY modest year) at lets say 40$ a person even tho I just paid 60$ for Saturday pre-reg...so if we take modest nuimers 1000 ppl 40 bones each well BINGO! 40 thousand right there...not to mention Mayhem 300 ppl Battle Five Armies 200+ ppl  Pel wars 100+ ppl baddon hill 400+ ppl gates of fire 300+ ppl....all of those events are hosted within tweo hirus of each other well the exception of Mayhem...

by my count you woudl easily have 2000+ (and by plus I mean an A$$ ton more) so if 2000 people each paid 60$ a year to go to say 3 of those events that would 120,000 dollars.....

More (and by more i mean MUCH more) than enough to pay a full time grounds keeper 35,000-40,000 a year make 3000 dollar a month mortgage payments on the land and still have tens of thousands left over for improvements equipment and gear....

just sayin' the math ......the money..its there!!! we just hands it over to Spring Valleys and Coopers Lakes....rather than run the place our selves...

Now don tget me wrong using professional venues saves a lot of headaches...and work and such...but it does make sense that if we built a place  ourselves it woudl be EXACTLY what we want to play on....

26  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok 2013 on: June 01, 2012, 10:39:33 am
....also Master Walch there are probably a dozen more thigns that Tnahauser or Twinkles Toes or Dominus or any of the many many volunteers who hae a MUCH MUCH better grasp on the "behind the scenes" details I know next to nothing about:  ample parking proper insurance, and permits have been mentioned.....so my list should be taken as a "just scratched the surface" sort of thing...

HUZZAH!
27  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Ragnarok 2013 on: June 01, 2012, 10:32:38 am
Ok... a few quick comments...FIRST:  Britannia Faire as much as she would love too....WILL NEVER host Ragnarok...Dagorhir out grew her Glens and Vales long ago...I think MAX campers for our site will be about 600 maybe a few more if were were all good good friends...so smaller events for folks who really wanna get away from the mundane Britannia is there for....BUT!! we are here to discuss Ragnarok...not the Faire...

Tannhauser brings up great point...if we had never had a proposal from Coopers we'd still be squeezing into Spring Valley...and to my under standing Coopers is our FOURTH location over these many years...so obviously Dagorhir continues to grow and search for better spots...perhaps this location in Mansfield is it ...Perhaps not...but Wow!! the vehemence with which so many people have replied with its shocking!!  and...it reminds me a LOT of when discussion first began to leave Spring Valley...and look how happy we are with our Newest home...

Lets answer the fellows questions!!! WHAT WOULD BE IDEAL for a Ragnarok site...lets not hammer him with how ridiculous the idea is to LEAVE our current one!!!

Once we tell these folks EXACTLY what our Dream site would be it is then their job to convince us us they can provide that site and then just as importantly DELIVER said site....there are lots of what ifs and could be and might happens...but don't close the door on change simply because its change???

SO !!! ! ! in answer to Master Davids questions:

THINGS WE MUST HAVE:

We need a big grassy soft field....

we need a clear cool lake not far from said field

we need shade filled glens in witch to pitch camps

we need clean fresh (drinkable) water throughout  said camps

we need lots of privies and showers near said camps....

WE WOULD LOVE!!!!

a camp store where we can buy things we forgot...

safe and exciting fortresses in part of the field on which to fight...

a grand pavilion in which to host council and events...

and a teleportation ring so friends from far far far away can come join us each year....we will understand if you can't provide......the camp store!

I look forward to hearing your proposal....

Oye Ye Oye Ye!  A quick update and status on the Faire and more importantly the road...a small group of us really busted Arse out there this weekend...we got about 2000 yards of drainage ditch run through the nastiest most mud filled sections of road.  WE DID NOT get culvert piping and gravel down yet...still have high hopes to have it in before Troll opens Friday but timing will be tight !!!!

If you have a 4WD truck I highly recommend you travel to Phoenix in that....If you have the ability to come out a day early (in your 4WD) and help us install culvert and spread gravel...well the Kingdom will forevr be in your Debt....

Most importantly the weather and temps.....look to be AWFUL!!! Come out come out Come out!!!!

Ahh Mother Nature isn't she a hoot!! ...well after telling Phoenix (Lauren) for months she was crazy for wanting to host a party at Britannia so early in Spring it appears now that I look to be the fool!!! The weather for the next 10 days looks amazing!! I seriously ponder if we may all get to go creek dipping for Britannia first event of Spring!!! Madness i say absolutely pure and lovely Madness!!!!

So the warm winds and sunny days are going to be REALLY good for our muddy road...this weekend we are trenching new drainage and grading the road surface....and all things fall into place a fresh coat of gravel before folks start arriving on Friday...but I cannot stress this enough...THINGS MAY NOT play out so smoothly....If your adventuring party has the means...PLEASE PLEASE please CARPOOL as the parking lot may have a few issues and the fewer cars the better....and again if you have the means try and travel in an SUV or vehicle w/4WD just as a precaution...IN NO WAY DO I WISH TO DISCOURAGE FOLKS FROM ATTENDING!!! as of now temperatures and precipitation look PERFECT!!! I just want everyone to be prepared. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns....and I cannot wait to see you all out at the Faire! HUZZAH HUZZAH HUZZAH!!!

Fug,

Sorry to relate..only a small handful of folks will be running the quad...its a liability issue...however...there will be a dedicated staff member to that task all day Friday setting up Saturday until 1 PM and all day Sunday helping people pack out.....

And Mistress Schieny is correct the ideas being tossed around for scenarios are really epic!!! Not to be Missed!!
40  Events / Event-Related Announcements / Re: Battle of Five Armies IV - Aug 16,17,18,19 @ Britannia Faire on: March 06, 2012, 05:24:04 pm
Odran, Your assessment is correct.  We have shifted the road from directly in front of the sotne circle and Galadorn and the site you worked on. There always have been two roads runnign through th valley one on each side if the battle field. A large drainage ditch is going to replace where the road runs currently.  The new road will be an issue if people wanted to leave the south field lot...but the reality is we don't want to use that lot this year for much of anything this season.  No one bothered to drive all the way back ther last year....and so the focus is really to ge thte front lot cleared a lot more out. My biggest focus is to get folks to move their cars back to the parking lot after gear has been unpacked or to use the wagon and quad to shuttle stuff to their camps.

....but when I was talking about "Open Slots" i meant volunteer realms for BoFA....do you think your guys will want to help out???....it is VERY literately accurate to have you guys as one of the five armies?!?!??!  As of now Lothlorien is one of 5 host realms.  Galadorn has not said so yet but we count on them helping again this year...that leaves three spots...but I believe Wargar may have interest in 1.....leaving 2 so get your ducks in a row (or whatever Urkai get in a Line up) and get back to Lykos, Layak or me ASAP!

Kade you dispicable WORM!!! ....Orc, and Drow...are forbidden to sell their cursed wares on the fine fresh soil of Britannia....so bugger off!!! And as for that "camp" by the creek....tis' been burned along with any of your filthy kin found there..BURNED TO a crisp dark ASH!!!!

Heh hehe....actually the spot by the creek you worked on last season is looking nice and dry....and still relatively cleared...lots of good flat space in that area to expand.  As for merchanting there are no weird rules like rag....no insurance, no application, no tax stuff....just come out n set up...

torn for the pages of There and Back Again....

....and so began a battle that none had expected; and it was called the Battle of the Five Armies, and it was very terrible. Upon one side were the Goblins and the Wild Wolves, and upon the other were Elves and Men and Dwarves....This is how it fell out....

Oye Ye Oye Ye..let it be known throughout the realm that the armies of both good and evil gather for a battle to rival the very end of the World! Join us for a (long) weekend of riotous fighting and rollicking revels as Lothlorien takes this fourth year event to new heights!

20$ Event fee covers camping, fighting, and feast!

********HELP WANTED******
Lothlorien is currently looking for realms and/or fighting units to assist in the production of this event. Your groups involvement would include troll shifts, security shifts, and creation of (at least) one mass melee field scenario. In exchange for your groups help you will of course share in the GLORY and BOUNTY of this years BoFA! Realms and fighting units that have participated in the past have first dibs on their spot back...but reply quickly to either Redwycke, Lykos or his Majesty King Layak for the five (only three left) slots will go quickly!

More details and event schedule to follow soon.

Huzzah,

Windslet Windsong
High Bard and Voice to his Majesty the King

Good Master Milo...forgive my jest....and I agree plasti dip (DONE SAFELY) is really REALLY good for the game....  I shouldn't add (bad) humor to an already convoluted thread....

Much thanks to all the veterans, heralds, play testers, worry warts, and bad asses....that make this game a GREAT pastime!!!!

Chronotix,

The patterns offered are good ones, and Sig Magnus mentioned wool which is VERY historically correct, but you have to know how to sew...Sewing was (still is) a huge challenge for me so another option (how I made mine) was from leather. Using hide you can do BIG CLUMSY awl stitching which is more like "building" than "sewing" if that makes any sense at all.   Any sort of hide with a "sheen" added is very very good at repelling water, and leather holds warmth really really well and reflects the hot sun just as good. I used (faux) Ostrich skin and it is working GREAT!
50  General / Rules rules rules / Re: Using the haft of a spear....am I allowed to do this?? on: January 23, 2012, 03:59:16 pm
Thanks to all! Good advice and insight.....so to be sure a "push" making contact lightly then applyiing force is ethical and legal....however to "swing" the spear (non offensively but as a defensive or positioning maneuver) is NOT legal...did I get that right?? If so makes sense to me...will be sure to adjust my tatics in the future....

One other slight varioation...what if a spear(s) is used as a barrier...held side ways to hinder forward movement?? Legal or BS?
