1  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: "sorting pole" core for a red. on: April 24, 2014, 07:16:30 am
I'm gonna be making a min-length red axe.  A Dwarven min-length red axe.  Heavy is gonna be fiiiiiinnneeee.

Not with a 3/4" solid core! That won't have any flex what so it have to have a lot of padding and then it will probably be to heavy to be safe.
2  General / Rules rules rules / Re: Metal Elbows and Knees on: March 21, 2014, 06:01:48 am
this and the no metal hand armor are why i tell my noobs that they are better off with leahter and maille than plate, whats the point of spending all that money for plate armor if you cant use all of it, plus all armor give the same protections so why not go the cheaper route

You can actually make a coat of plates for around 80 bucks plus cost on rivets and your actual coat holding the plates. Some metal armor can be cheaper then leather.

5  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: Shield Straps on: April 17, 2013, 09:47:59 pm

If you use these don't expect to have a good time. Every time I have used one it starts coming loose where the plastic attaches to the metal just after a day.

If you can find one where the entire thing is solid then that would be perfect, but if the handle is bolted/screwed into the other piece it won't last long.
6  General / Rules rules rules / Re: Wounded Leg: a hit to either counts as good hit (Thoughts?) on: February 06, 2013, 04:57:59 am
In the Vanguard we have a saying about dealing with people who don't look dead as soon as they are dead.

"HIT THEM TILL THEY CURSE!"
7  General / Rules rules rules / Re: Wounded Leg: a hit to either counts as good hit (Thoughts?) on: February 05, 2013, 11:19:23 pm
Everywhere I have went if someones guard is up and they are swinging no matter if they are on their butt or a knee I consider them very much alive.

Some people have bad knees and can't sit on their knees and fight so they plop down on their rear. I don't consider this cheating if they say they are alive/ are still fighting.

No where in the rules does it say that you can't sit on your butt when you get hit in the leg.

I have only been playing 3-4 years and this is a very simple concept. Wth dagohir?
8  Gear / Buy / Sell / Trade / Re: Foamsmithing supplies for sale on: January 29, 2013, 04:20:28 am
Seems pretty reasonable to me! Will definitely order the volara and 4 pound foam as soon as my min glaive decides to break down.
9  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: red tutorials on: January 05, 2013, 06:37:14 am
Yeah I'm thinking 2, 4 foot reds will work out better than 1, 8 foot In the safety department. Thanks

On bandshoppe 4ft is a no no. It will not flex at all and would take a lot more padding to make legal. A lot more then making the 8 footer legal.
10  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: What to make? on: December 27, 2012, 05:43:07 am
Why didn't you wrap a layer of foam over the entire blade of the sword?

The way you have it your going to need to replace that tip soon.
11  Gear / Garb & Equipment / Re: Best Lacrosse Gloves for Dag on: December 26, 2012, 03:14:46 am
I use brine vengeance gloves. They are smaller then your average lacross glove but provide the same amount of padding. If your lucky you can find a pair in your units colors. Just paint over the logo and your good to go.

Been using my pair for almost two years now and they are still holding up.
12  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: What to make? on: December 26, 2012, 03:11:15 am
If they are round don't make a weapon over 48". It will flex out.
13  Gear / Buy / Sell / Trade / Re: Custom weapons on: December 21, 2012, 10:53:57 pm
You should get your hands on some microcell. It is a lot easier to carve out of it then blue foam.

Also with the new tech you could make not so bulky weapons but still give them interesting shapes.

the haft of a flail generally has less force to it than a sword, due to the ball.

Usually this only applies to flails that have a decently weighted head on them. Otherwise they are just like swords with a sack attached to them.
17  Fighting / General Fighting Discussion / Re: Varying degrees of "hitting" yourself... on: November 30, 2012, 07:23:48 am
You should be fine unless someone gets behind you and hits the striking surface that is touching you.
18  Fighting / General Fighting Discussion / Re: Varying degrees of "hitting" yourself... on: November 30, 2012, 07:11:15 am
You should take it as if an enemy hit you.

A sufficient hit is a sufficient hit no matter who's weapon it came from.
19  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: Favorite spray glues? on: November 27, 2012, 10:55:12 pm
I haven't tried gluing fabric to foam but Loctite is a good brand of spray glue. Just make sure you get the can that is higher then the High performance middleweight bonding.

On the can it says foam and fabric so it might work and it might not. Can't hurt to try.

Turning a giant heater shield into a medium tear drop.

The tape left on it left a neat little design

24  Gear / Buy / Sell / Trade / Re: I have money burning a hole in my pocket. on: November 02, 2012, 01:45:47 am
You should totally buy a two gore tunic from Ilsa. Her work is amazing! Get it in black and make sure its knee length and there you have your base tunic for being an undead.
25  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / Re: what are you working on like RIGHT NOW on: October 20, 2012, 01:49:06 am
That is exactly why I do not want to put a stabby on it. I realize stabs are incredibly useful but I hardly ever stab anyone.

It already has 1.5" over the core including the biscuit if you count that lol.

Has a 4# eva fry thing with 1.5" of 2#mc. Might not put a stab tip on it but definitely getting a cross guard.

5 ft mini glaive is operational once again! This time with 4 pound box and microcell!
37  General / Rules rules rules / Re: Testing for flex on: September 12, 2012, 10:21:35 pm
Put the pommel on the ground and hold the blade near the tip in your left hand. Now place your right hand in the middle of the weapon and push towards the ground. Pretty similar to stringing a bow if that description troubles you

Simple and really only requires one person to do it.

I can see some people being scared of checkers breaking there weapons this way. When I check my weapons this way I can definitely tell the weapons limit and won't go past that.

MY RED!

40  General / Rules rules rules / Re: Parry Dagger and weapon Locking on: August 22, 2012, 09:21:09 pm
Thanks ;D I was just concerned about the "locking" im usings a strong electrical tubing to absorb the shock so the guards ends will almost be 2"

They can't pass half an inch through a 2" circle. If they are almost 2" I'm pretty sure they would go more then half an inch through it.
41  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / Re: what are you working on like RIGHT NOW on: August 16, 2012, 04:32:02 am
That's looking really good

This is positively the cleanest looking sword I have ever made! It is so easy to line things up on something square!
42  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / Re: what are you working on like RIGHT NOW on: August 16, 2012, 12:42:35 am
56" long with 1/2" Square fiberglass. 4# eva box and 1.5" of 2# microcell for blade. Progressive density pommel for giggles! With a 16" handle!

Just need to finish stabby, grip, and cover!

43  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / Re: what are you working on like RIGHT NOW on: August 12, 2012, 03:25:57 am
Just got my new red boxed and bladed. This 1/2" square fiberglass is amazing!!! Core at 54" with foam on it and it flexes just a little bit.

Used the gold gym floor mat for the box and got 1.5" of microcell for the blade. Just needs a pommel, grip, and cover! Going to be awesome!!!

47  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: question about making a sword on: August 02, 2012, 05:29:10 am
You get a thinner sword that is a lot easier to handle and you probably won't flat people as much. I've noticed the wider your sword is the more prone you are to flatting someone.

50  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: Magnetic Tape on: July 12, 2012, 08:49:29 pm
I use it when i don't fee like wrapping 16g galvanized steel.

It works well but you might have to do two to three layers to get the weight you want.
