1  General / New Dagorhir Members and Chapters / Looking for New Members... Northern Indiana/Southern Michigan on: August 22, 2012, 10:57:42 am
Hi folks!

I run a small unit in the northern Indiana/southern Michigan area, known as the Coldguard. We are affiliated with the realm Bloodpool. I have been leading this unit for about a year and a half, and generally, with much success. Over the past half a year, I've been able to successfully field approximately 8-14 geared fighters on a regular basis. Unfortunately, my group is made entirely of people ages 18-21, and I'm sure we all know, that's a time of major change. After this year's usual "Back to school!" time, I've lost about the entire core of my unit to university changes and careers, and now my unit's practices consist of 3-4 people on a good day.

I'm looking for new fighters! If you're new, do not shy away from joining. Most of my career has been organizing newer players. My unit is highly active in the fall and spring, and we even manage to fight a fair deal in the winter (We love fighting in the cold weather and the snow ^_^). So if you're in the following areas, please feel free to contact me through this board: Granger, IN ; Mishawaka, IN; Goshen, IN (might be a bit of a drive, though) ; Niles, MI ; Dowagiac, MI ; Edwardsburg, MI ; Cassopolis, MI.

The unit is just located far enough away from Northern Steppes, Mittelmarch, and most of the reaches of other chapters and units in the region (We're in a pretty small zone that no one really has jurisdiction over), so if you're in one of those areas, please join us!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and best of luck!
2  Gear / Garb & Equipment / New Persona; Taking Garb to the Next Level!; Roman theme. on: June 03, 2011, 01:52:38 am
Hey all! Been awhile since I've posted here lately, been out playing rather than sitting on the computer! So I've finally been playing by a good standard for quite some time now. I will soon be heading off to a new town for college (and luckily, with a few of my unit members!) and we decided that our new group would take on a Roman theme! I'm a big-time historian, and with the Romans being my main area of interest, I was ecstatic. I decided that with my historical interest and trying to take my garb to a higher level (and a few nice paychecks I received earlier!), I would be going for high-quality garb. I will be purchasing all of my garb this time around (My garb now has been acceptable, but I can't fathom ever making more... I'm terrible). I will also be leading my new Roman group, and I figured that I should set a good example with my garb. My main idea for this thread is to gather ideas for what I might be lacking and to find out what might not be worth getting. Here's what I'm looking at thus far!....

Torso: http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-870-roman-tunic.aspx

Feet: http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-5447-roman-sandals.aspx

Waist: http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-1287-roman-belt.aspx

Armor - Chest: http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-5632-roman-lorica-segmentata.aspx

As for a helmet, it's not my main priority, but I can't decide whether or not to get a steel helmet (would look more fitting, and a lower cost) or a leather helmet (comfortable?). The two I was looking at...

Steel Helmet: http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-5861-roman-helmet.aspx

Leather Helmet: http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-1278-roman-trooper-leather-helm.aspx

I will also have a Focale for my neck, but I will simply make that myself.

I'd appreciate any comments I could get for what I might be missing, what I do/don't need, etc. etc. As well that I'm buying good gear. I know that many of you know your garb, and one of main concerns is that I'm getting useful garb!

On a side note: Yes, I'm buying all of my gear from the same place. My friend has had much success with this supplier, and I'd rather keep shipping costs to a minimum.

On another side note: I often refrain from using the boards because of how hay-wired threads become. I'm posting this to help further my garb, and nothing else. Please refrain from arguing or posting negative comments!

(Also... I'm sleep-deprived after a long day of work. If something doesn't make sense, I can probably better explain myself after I get some sleep!).

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at this! I wish you all a good summer!
3  General / Rules rules rules / Garb Restrictions/Advice? on: January 22, 2011, 10:04:32 pm
Hey everyone!

I'm sure half of you reading this have already heard from me x)

My unit and I are headed to our first event, Mittelmarch Olympics VIII, this upcoming spring. We have been a very casual group with no major restrictions. The time has come for us to prepare all of our "official" gear, and we had some questions regarding garb!
I'd appreciate any advice, information, or answers you could give us!

F.Y.I, we planned on going for a sort of Anglo-Saxon feel (but with some of the other northern cultures mixed in).

1) Tunics: We are rather short on time to make things, due to all of our busy schedules, and we don't have any prepared garb. Is it possible we could take earth-tone colored T-shirts, and cut the sleeves and collar? I am aware of the tutorial on the website, but we're not totally sure if we have enough money to invest in raw materials, and if we have enough time and skill.

2) Leggings: As far as leggings go, we were wondering if it was possible to say, take a pair of sweatpants and cut the bottoms (and if there are any writings or logo's, perhaps just turn them inside-out). I personally own a pair of flannel pajama pants. Would it be okay to simply wear those, or cut the bottoms of them and wear them?

3) Footwear: What home-made options are available to us as far as footwear? If we were to buy moccasins (with no logos showing), could we just wear those?

This will be the first event any of us have gone to, and any help would be appreciated! Thank you! :D
4  General / Dagorhir Discussion and Announcements / New Unit On Their Way to First Event! on: January 18, 2011, 07:44:32 pm
Hello, fellow warriors!

My friends and I have been playing our own "unofficial" Dagorhir meets, with approximately 15-20 people, and we are now looking towards attending a real, official event (Mittelmarch's Olympics VIII). We are based out of Northern Indiana, with no real chapters near us aside from a 2 hour drive. We have been hosting our own local group for students at our school and have gathered a fairly strong player base (with no conflictions to the official terms of use) who are ready to join the big leagues. We are now preparing our "safety-ready" gear (we had been playing with anything we could get our hands on, none of which would be deemed safe enough to play with, hehe) and we are very curious as to how we should be preparing for our first event!

I've been diving into forums and chapter websites to try to find the answers, but the few questions I was not able to answer from my searches, I will be asking here (and if it is answered somewhere and I missed it, my apologies!):

1) Do we need to be officially affiliated with a chapter to attend?
2) Would we be able to purchase or borrow loaned equipment (such as shields) at the event? (More specific to purchasing, what would a typical cost be? For weapons as well as shields. I realize this might be too specific to the event to get an answer for).
3) How does the camping situation (also food, showers, etc.) during multi-day events work?
4) What sort of Role-Play elements are expected of players?
5) How should we make sure our equipment will be ready for the safety inspection at the entrance?
6) Can we also purchase garb at events?
7) Is there anything else to participate in besides fighting? (I also realize this might be too specific to the event).

Once again, I apologize for any questions that may be considered "noob-ish" or answered somewhere already. What we lack in knowledge, we make up for in fighting spirit!

We are eagerly awaiting our first real Dagorhir event. We look forward to fighting alongside (or against!) each and every one of you!

*And if you have any other helpful tips or advice, please feel free to post them. :)

Thank you!
