1  General / New Dagorhir Members and Chapters / Re: Looking for a unit near Detroit. on: October 12, 2012, 11:27:17 am
I'm moving to Plymouth next week, do you guys want to try and set up a Plymouth practice?
2  General / New Dagorhir Members and Chapters / Re: The High Spires on: April 03, 2012, 09:58:30 pm
High Spires is still very active, I'll try and get them to get you their current info.
3  Events / Event-Related Announcements / Re: WAR - Nov 5, 2011 (Indianapolis, IN) on: November 08, 2011, 02:28:41 am
Yeah, the balance was a bit off but the location was spectacular.  Love fighting in the trees, hated trying to convince people that fighting by the lake was dumb because it didn't get us any points.  I loved the people who were setting up traps in the woods (ingenuity you don't see in field battles often).  Thanks guys for a great event and hopefully we'll get more Eryndor out next year.
4  Fighting / General Fighting Discussion / Re: best way to teach chain of command to new guys on: August 20, 2011, 02:46:19 am
One important factor we've had in building unit functionality on the field is spend time focusing on what you're group will actually do in event fighting.  This means taking time out of your normal practices to run drills.  Practice forming shield walls, working with flankers, both fighting with and against support weapons.  Depending on the size of your group this may require some creativity.

The trick then becomes a mixture of everyone being willing to communicate and not just zoning in on the guy across from him, and whomever you place in charge practicing being in charge.  If you're going to be the guy barking out orders at rag then you better be barking out orders at practice, which means you need someone with really good field awareness.

Really a chain of command comes down to how much time you're willing to put into it.  Plenty of people in dag are more than happy fighting solo and ignoring anyone who tries to take charge of the situation.  That said if you've got a group of people who are willing to put in the work, and are willing to listen to vets and people designated to make the group work better you can find a lot more success, but if people arent interested you're just going to aggravate them and give yourself headaches.
5  Fighting / General Fighting Discussion / Re: why do you enjoy using your red? on: July 19, 2011, 12:34:10 pm
I just love when you come up to someone and just move your hands slightly and the guy across from you takes a step back.
6  Fighting / General Fighting Discussion / Re: The topic of survival on: July 09, 2011, 03:40:12 am
The thing is finding out what you enjoy and then making yourself really good at it.  I have always been a defensive sword and boarder so in order to get good every time we run a king battle I volunteer, and have made it so that in most one on one fights with the people I practice against I can stay alive for a long time.  When it gets to the point where it takes two or three people to kill you then you're creating a miss match down field where your guys outnumber someone else.  So while I may only get 1 kill per rez some days when I walk to the edge of a line and three guys move over to face me I know that I'm helping someone get kills on the other side of the line.  Doesn't mean dont try and get good at killing folkes just means if you're naturally defensive try and hone that.
7  Gear / Garb & Equipment / Re: So you want to be a greenskin? on: July 09, 2011, 03:25:28 am
I'm just really happy this thread is here (even if it is a bit sidetracked from where it started) and I know the green skins in the Fury have done an excellent job of not acting like being green makes up for bad garb and actually paint up instead of just wearing torn pants and shirt and saying they're orcs/goblins/etc.

While I rp someone who hates goblins, and Reggie chose to be a goblin mostly to antagonize me, having people who have good garb and dont use paint as an excuse to have lame kits makes playing the game more fun.

Those are really nice, can't wait to see what your moderate or advanced swords would look like.
9  Events / Ragnarok / Re: Good, Bad, Ugly and the Fun on: June 20, 2011, 11:25:50 pm
After hearing about Rag for nine years I finally got to go

The Good
Fighting on a scale that I hadn't experienced before
All of Eryndor coming together for DagorDagorath (sp)
Meeting a lot of great new people and seeing people who are Dag Legends
Running through the woods on Thursday and getting all kinds of muddy  :)
Watching all the fun stuff that goes on in the field across from Ernydor (knights trials and the like)
Getting my Fighters Pelt
Finding out that having a helm suddenly turns you into a periscope as other guys are ducked behind their shields holding control points asking you to warn them if guys are charging.
Healing people in the turret in the castle battle

The Bad
Bugs
People not plunging the toilets when they had plungers right there
Sleeping on a hill (gotta turn my tent next year)
Packing for 90s, so I only had a sheet for those cold nights

The Ugly
Belligerent drunks yelling till 5 am
My personal aftermath of the Militia party
Coming home to facebook people realizing I've got no clue what anyone's real name is or how to actually spell their dag names as none of them are phonetic
Having to run and find a medic because someone decided to drink till he puked blood

The Fun!
Eryndor Circle of Honor where myself and several friends all got our fighters Pelts
Mead
Following Sour Wine to the Twisted Tavern and watch them . . . be Sour Wine
Hearing the "Reggie is the Best" song from people all over Rag
Going to Old Country Buffet with High Spires then doing the Tiger Dance and running out of their (in garb of course)
10  Fighting / General Fighting Discussion / Re: How to deal with an over aggressive fighter on: June 02, 2011, 03:15:12 am
We had a couple of issues like this in Mount Pleasant.  The trick is to know if they are just getting too jacked up on adrenaline and just need to calm down from time to time (in those cases giving them five minute breaks throughout the course of the day is all it takes) to people who just can't control their weapons (we had a guy who insisted on using reds even though he continued to throw head shots and we ended up telling him to just use blues until he got better) or people who've decided that they dont want to follow the rules and those people need to be removed because the enjoyment of the group outweighs the enjoyment of one guy who's decided he's above the rules.
11  Gear / Garb & Equipment / Re: double horny horn trouble on: May 31, 2011, 07:29:38 pm
I've seen ones that are both, what they did was their was a piece that screwed into the metal mouthpiece of the horn and sealed it when you wanted to drink out of it.
12  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: New shield for a page on: May 21, 2011, 12:03:38 pm
Great shields guy, looks very cool.
13  Gear / Weapons & Armor / Re: The best for a small shield? on: May 18, 2011, 12:54:03 am
One important recommendation if you're using a wooden core is make sure you either place a strip of blue foam on the back where your arm will be placed or get some nice gloves otherwise the skin on your knuckles will go bye bye.
14  Gear / Garb & Equipment / Re: Just because _________ doesn't mean it's garb on: April 20, 2011, 03:44:00 pm
@Solusar, Alric, and Stellara

Sorry if I wasnt clear enough Solusar, but Alric and Stellara got my point.  I've got no problem going shirtless or painted up, just not cutting up some track pants and throwing on a beanie and saying you have garb because you're painted.
15  Gear / Garb & Equipment / Re: Just because _________ doesn't mean it's garb on: April 20, 2011, 01:21:47 pm
Just because you're a girl a skirt doesn't make a tank top garb
it's just never garb
Just because you paint yourself doesn't mean you dont need garb
not that all green (or other colour skins) do this but some think body paint equals automatically superb quality garb
16  General / New Dagorhir Members and Chapters / Re: New unit starting (Tiffin, Ohio area) on: April 15, 2011, 12:16:44 am
You guys are also pretty close to Eryndor if you want to get to some events.  Best of luck with the new unit, new blood is always great.
