Plasti-Dip Contest Submission Thread!
« on: March 17, 2013, 02:04:01 am »
Lets see some awesome Plasti-dipped weapons!
I want to see some pretty outstanding gear, and I know you guys can help me out :)
I want to see shields and swords (please no armor/garb modifications)

All Weapons must be newly made. As in: if your weapon was made before March 16th 2013 it doesn't count.

CATEGORIES
Basically there are two tiers. People who have made a plasti-dipp weapon before and people who have not. Each one is the same prize. when you submit a picture of your weapon, be sure to put either "My first plasti-dip weapon" or "Experienced plasti-dipp" ok?

How things will be judged

Aesthetic 10/10: How does the project LOOK. If it's a realistic look, does it look realistic? If it's a stylized look, does it look flashy or stylized? This is of course a subjective category.

Accuracy 5/5: How even are the cuts? How precise is the paint? How well are the seams hidden? Does the cloth cover blend with the weapon? Is the back of the shield finished?

Creativity 5/5: Is it an axe head on a plain shaft done exceptionally realistically, or is it a simple two toned spray paint job. This category shouldn't simply be "how original is this idea," but rather, "how did the artist go about implementing fresh ideas to complete their project?" This could be something as simply original as a fresh way of painting, or something as complex as a completely different construction method.

PRIZES
Alric has offered to donate $30 worth of foam smithing supplies to the winners. This includes either a sheet of foam or $30 worth of fries. I'll be giving him another $30 so we can give the same prize to both winners.

STARTING/DEADLINE
The competition will start April 1st 2013 and end June 1st 2013

Judges
I'd like there to be 3 judges.
The Judges have to be experienced Plasti-dippers and not in the contest.
PLEASE VOLUNTEER!

Only Post Submissions on this page. No Works in progress!

SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN!

Can I by chance have a Mod pin this? just so people will be able to see it easily so we can get the most out of it? then after the contest is over have it unpinned?

Hello all, this is our first PD weapon. A nice spear based off of the one mentioned in the Black Company books. By we, I mean myself, Arcturus, Ulrich, Xavier and Severian all Black Company, all had a hand in constructing this weapon. This is a first time plasti-dip for all of us and first time spear as well. There is quite a few pictures since it is long and you can't really see the details from far away.

Core- Band Shop pole
Padding - Blue Camping foam, open cell foam and marine foam.
Detailing and Runes - All fun foam
Plasti-Dip - Brushed on.
Handle- Black leather strapping
Paint - Acrylic Paint

So I figure this is a good enough place to make a first post.

As one of my personas is a Khajiit from Daggerfall, I decided to make a Dwarven Saber. This is not my first time plastidipping a sword.

Materials used:

Core - 3/8 square fiberglass, curved bit in the grip is pvc
Foam- 2lb and 3lb microcell, marine foam
Detailing - Fun Foam
Grip - Plastidip over cloth tape (May eventually replace)
Plastidip - Paint on
Paint - Acrylic

Thanks guys, I frankly wasn't expecting a win, the pommel on mine makes me cringe every time I look at it.
