I'm not entirely sure about the details, but I think the rest of my family is going to be in Kerrville until sunday. I may be able to work out a way to be in the DFW area by late saturday evening, probably around 6-7 p.m.

I know thats pretty late, and I don't want to delay anyone. I don't think I could be back any earlier than that. Honestly, being back in North Texas at all on Saturday is unrealistic for me. I think I will probably have to fly up to Ohio, but that means that a) someone would have to be willing to make some sort of arrangement to carry some of my gear with them; and b) I would like to ba able to ride back to Texas in the van if at all possible.

Checking on that Gorbag, I am betting its a typo.

As for the van

Spot reserved for
Kai
Aaron
Rory
Gorbag
Whisper and Daughter (counting as one for now)
Nelduril (on the way back only)

Current expected cost is 214 at 5 people
Cost at 6 people is 178
Cost at 9 people is 118

These costs are for Round Trip!

I have two or three seats left so speak up. This is by far the cheapest way to Rag I have found. Any questions let me know!

Hey Aaron,
Just wanted to thank you for the Training practice man. My wrist is a little sore, I have had it wrapped today to keep all the older men from shaking the daylights out of it.

But I am feeling it! and I am going to TRY (no promises) to go to practice on saturday.

Ice that wrist, Charles! Best thing you can do for a sore complex joint like a wrist is ice it a lot. You do NOT want arthritis by the time you're 30. Wrapping is good, too.

Good to see you out there, man! You got the crazies enough to really fit in.

What time do you think you all will be getting into Ohio on the Sunday of Ragnarok check in? I may need to figure out some way to get to the campground from the airport once I get to Ohio.

Alright guys, we all know I won't be here this weekend but next weekend I'll be able to attend...but I'll have to leave early (family is going to be down and my sister's dance recital is that day). I was wondering if anybody would be willing to meet a little bit early so I could get the maximum amount of practice time in before Rag. So, any takers?

Hmm...sorry Gorbag, but I will be in Austin that weekend. I travel too much. While you are getting the maximum amount of manageable practice time, I'm going to be fresh meat at Rag...

Have fun! (ps- fall looks like it could open some doors)

Just so we know that it wasn't a dream, here's photographic proof that Charles showed up for practice last weekend:

And I'd be cool with starting practice a little bit early next weekend. That would be the 24th, I think? Turns out my niece's dance recital was rescheduled for the 25th.

In other news, I won't make it but I might have some peeps to send your way...I hope they are not just amusing themselfs with my attempt to recruit.

Well, it looks like I'm out of action for the next three weekends. Last weekend and this coming one, my well-meaning and generous parents sprung a major yard improvement project on me, and I need to be here to help with it and show my appreciation. The weekend after that is my daughter's dance recital. The first weekend in June is Industry Giants, a major animation industry conference right here in Plano that I'd be an idiot to miss.

The weekend after that, I'll be at practice!

The weekend after that, I'll be in Austin for a family reunion.

The weekend after that, the Guilder war party ships out for Ragnarok!

I don't think I'm going to be the ferocious ball of skill that I'd like to be. At least the yard work will whip me into better condition.

Alright, what time are we gonna be meeting Saturday? I would like to meet early but I'm willing to do whatever. I'm gonna have to leave at about 3:00 or so and I would like to get in as much practice as possible because I'm not sure if I'll be home for practice next week.

Hey guys! I have a few Pre-Rag questions.

1) Would anyone from our chapter be willing to drive to the airport (probably in Columbus)  on Sunday the 22 to pick me up and get me to the Ragnarok campsite?

2) What is the group doing for food? Are most of you eating from Botch's kitchen, going out to eat, what? How much money are you bringing for food (And so how much would you suggest? I know this depends highly on how we choose to eat.)

3) Would anyone be willing to get out next week to practice on a weekday, probably for mid day to early afternoon? My evenings are tied up, but I would like to get in more practice if possible. (This is not a complete garuntee that I will be even to be able to make it; I want to find out if it is even a possibility for any of the rest of you first.) I've been practicing with one of our "cousin groups" that Aaron mentioned to me because there is a group in Denton, just to get in some extra practice and to work on speed.

Aaron's really the guy to talk to about this, since his name's on the rental contract. What time do you expect to arrive in Columbus?

I think some of the guy's are signing up with Botch's Kitchen. If I was going solo, I'd probably do the same. But I'm taking my daughter along, so I'm bringing some cooking stuff and a cooler.

It's kind of dicey for me, even though I'm home this week. Friday's booked, my daughter's last day of school is Wednesday, and I'm trying to get some costuming and weapon making done while I have the time. Still, I could use some practice. Can anyone else do this?

That's me too- I'm trying to finish some weapons, and my last day of school is thursday, and then I have to play "pomp and circumstance" (the music) at graduation on friday.

But I have a graduation party that I need to attend (it's for a really close friend, and I do actually need to be there). I forgot the party was going to be this Saturday when we were talking about which practices I could make last week.

Haha, yeah, I remembered sending it and was thinking, "wait, haven't I mentioned this before?" But then, last week I told you I could come on Saturday because the party had slipped my mind.

Missing all of the Saturday practices is why I was wondering about a weekday practice next week, but I am tied up at 4:00 every day that week. Oops...I didn't realize I was tied up that early until now.

I am disappointed to say I may not be coming to Rag after all...After all of this prep and planning...ugh!

The reason is that I totaled up the approximate cost of the trip, and for me it is going to be between $476 and $575 to cover everything. The problem there is that my family has had several unexpected expenses come up this month, to the tone of $400 to $500.

I really disappointed...and I know that means the rental cost for the car will go up for all of you. If I need to make a donation since you were all planning on me coming and helping to pay, I could probably do that.

It's not a garuntee yet that I can't make it, but it's more likely than not...I think I'm going to go get a job and start saving up for nex year.

Nelduril check your email. I need to know the answer to that question as soon as possible. Everyone else, depending on how much he is short I would like to take a collection to cover the rest. I am already prepared to take care of his food cost just need to see what else he needs.

Ok, I have an update. I've decided that I won't be going to Rag this year. There is alot to it, but overall, it's just bad timing. I'm pretty sure other events this year will be fine though. Which ones I can make may depend on if my band directoe will mind me missing a football game or not. But you guys have fun, and let me know as soon as practices resume normally again. I will be able to come now!

I will be down grading us to a 7 seater Mini-van if it checks out tomorrow. New rental cost will be posted tomorrow. New expected gas cost is 34.78 there (split 5 ways) 43.47 back (split 4 ways)

So 34.78 for Kai in Gas
   78.25 for everyone else

Let me know if there are any questions.

Ok, so who wants to pick up a small Ragnarok XXIII shirt for me? I'm going to pre-order one. I'm thinking it would just be cool, and it will be good for advertising at school.

Is that a 7-seater with cargo space in back, or is that with all benches still in place? Does it have a roof rack? If we're hauling enough cargo, it might make sense to stick with the full-size van. I know I'll have at least three large storage tubs, tent poles, a cooler, two camp chairs, and assorted weaponry, plus my daughter. If it makes getting a full-size van any easier, I'd be willing to spring for two seats instead of one.

Bummer about Nelduril not making it out to Rag. Always next year, I guess.

Yea, next year will happen...

But...have you guys thought about planning an event in July? The big events seem to skip over the month of July, and I know it's almost our hottest month, but I think it might be doable.

The 7 sitter would have a some what limited storage space. To small for what you want to bring lol.

If we go back to the full size we are talking...

Rental 619 split 6 ways = 103.17

Im not sure if you meant gas as well whisper so I will post both ways.

Gas Cost (overestimated one way) miles 1000 / 14 mpg x 4 dollars a gallon / by number of people.

There not counting child (5 ways) 58
Back not counting child  (4 ways) 72
Total for everyone who is not staying in Ohio (Kai) = 130 + 103.17 = 233.17

There counting child (6 ways) 48
Back Counting Child  (5 ways) 57
Total fro everyone who is not staying in Ohio (Kai) = 105 + 103.17 = 208.17

That would make it for Whisper

First system = 336.34
Second System = 416.34

Kai

First System = 161.17
Second System = 151.17

All us other peoples

First System = 233.17
Second System = 208.17

I would like to use the first system where he only pays for an extra seat and we all eat a lil bit more gas cost. If you need any further info give me a call. I will switch us back to the full size van tomorrow.

Thankee, sir. I hadn't really thought about the distinction between just paying for a seat and also paying for the gas. I'll go with whatever everyone's comfy with.

BTW, if we go with the first plan (I pay extra seat, but not extra gas), and if everyone's interested in playing dinosaur on the way home from Rag, I can probably spot everyone's admission to the Louisville Science Center. I'd kind of like to check out the dino-sim that I've been working on, and it looks like a fun exhibit. We could play a herd of Triceratops and lay down maximum pwnage on those T. Rex meat robots!

It is not possible to return to the full size van. There are no companies in Texas offering it at this time. Whisper and I are looking into other options as I write this. If you have any ideas please feel free to share them. One option we are considering is renting two cars/suvs or one and use Whispers car. I already checked Oklahoma and while they are offering the van it does not have unlimited mileage or even close to what we need. As soon as we have decided on a plan of action I will inform everyone here.

New info. It is made of cheaper and happy.

Minivan and Whispers Car. (all math is rounded for evil purposes)

Rental for Minivan = 433.72 / 6 = 73
Gas fro Minivan    = 2000/26x4/6 = 52

Price for all (yes all its cheap so shut it)= 125

Price for Whispers Car = Hauling his gear which may weigh more than all of us combined.

Gas for Whispers Car = (i dont know his gas mileage but it looks like at least a 18 so lets play with that for a sec.
2000/18x4/6 = 74

Price for all = 199 and thats overestimation and a possibly low gas mileage on whispers car. I am sure he will come in later and tell us the real mileage. We may also get another guy which will change it all to by 7 which would mean = 171

With my luck tho Whisper will come on and inform me his car has a gas mileage of 1.

If any one has any questions call me. I mean that. No one has called with any questions and its kind of got me worried. See most of you Saturday and Whisper next Saturday.

I guess it's a good thing I just had new tires put on the car.   Nice MPG guess, Aaron! My car gets 17 city, 19 highway. The estimates are good.

So, are we going via OK City, or are the OK City folk coming to us? Anyone have a pair of walkie-talkies for communication, or should we only rely on cell phones?

Im going to toss this request up again in the midst of all the Pre Rag planning. Whisper, Machavell, or any other Guildarian, would one of you mind picking up the Ragnarok T-shirt I just ordered using my Mom's Paypal account?

I will pick it up when practice resumes after Rag, but I need to figure this out before Sunday because I am going out of town.
