Oh Thrush hun... if you blew a 2-0 lead to the guys you were fighting for a playoff spot against.. you'd wanna get up high to hang yourself too.

But on the good side, Calgary lost tonight so we get bumped back into 8th place and we play tomorrow against the 'Yotes and we get blessed Kronwall back tomorrow... Friday is slated to be Williams and Holmstrom (all things going well that is)... Franzen is scheduled to return just before the Olympic break, and Lilja, who's been out since Feb 28th of LAST season with PCS has been symptom-free for 13 days and needed 14 to clear medical evals... so tomorrow as long as nothing relapses he'll be ready to take the next step and come back to our defensive lines.

Which means we can finally go back to benching Lebda! YAY!

It's not the losing that's bothering me at this point... it's the blowing a 2 goal lead with under 2 minutes left in the game just so you can eff your defensive assignments and lose in OT.

Miraculously, we're still in 8th by tying up that OT-L point. I'm not entirely convinced we deserve to BE in the playoffs this year if we make it though.

Kronwall is getting reunited with Havlat tonight. I wonder who's going to say something first..

Red Wings injury update time!

Franzen - Torn ACL, scheduled to tentatively be back on February 9th in our game vs. St. Louis. Oh if only I could go out there to cheer for my mule ;_;

Holmstrom - Will NOT be returning to action today against Pittsburgh, but he's well on his way to returning in time for our next game.

Lilja - Has been cleared medically to play, but is under some red tape trying to get reassigned to GR for some conditioning and to ensure that he's infact, ready for actual games and not just practice. He asked for Franzen to take a run at him in practice - so Franzen nailed him against the boards and he said his body hurt but his head was fine

And today we'll be playing Pittsburgh on NBC. Just getting my trash talk in before Askarus gets here

I'm not too confident, but I'd like to see Kronwall hit someone (preferably a someone in a Pens jersey), Ericsson to NOT keep giving away the puck, and I'd like to see Lebda benched but that won't happen until Lilja comes back.

Look at your guys shots on goal and you'll see exactly why. The fact that Howard was as good as he is is the only reason it wasnt 8 - 1.

Ok, so we all watch a bunch of hockey around here, I need some objective outside views of this:

Mike Green got suspended by NHL vice president of hockey operations Mike Murphy for 3 games for this "elbow": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Kl7YnKB2vI&feature=player_embedded# I can't find the video that shows this from the other side (I saw it once) but Green does not move his arm.  It stays where he held it, and from the other side it really does look like he was trying to plant his shoulder into the dude's side.  Didn't happen that way though.  He hit him with his triceps (close enough to call the elbowing penalty DEFINITELY!) instead.  I don't even mind the suspension I s'pose, 'cause it could have been bad and they are trying to cut down on this stuff.

Both of these hits were reviewed by Murphy because Collin Campbell's son plays for the Panthers so he cannot make rulings of justice in Panther's games...

Mike Green obviously threw an elbow. Richards also threw an elbow BUT that one was debatable; It almost looked like a shoulder. Now I think Mike Green should be suspended on the retaliation with the elbow. The other guy (Richards) should just be given a 5-min.

I don't even know how to respond to that.  The videos show they were nigh on identical plays (talkin' whole play there bud, before ya jump on the old keyboard).  The punishment should have been the same for both.  This has been discussed now by people much smarter than you or I and they agree.

Is Staal's play of late making the Pens contemplate a shift in thinking?
As in, bumping Staal up to number-2 center and trying to acquire a solid two-way third-line center?

The resounding theory is that Shero is fishing for a defenseman.

The last two games have had malkin on staals wing, and its been glorious. could umburger be a good 3rd line center?

It could have been ruled as unintentional, i could see him putting his hand up cause the puck looked like it was comin at his face. Makes sense to me, same reason goals off the skate are counted if you don't kick them.

67.6 Disallowed Goal - A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck with his hand into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck and it is deflected into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official. When the puck enters the net on a clear deflection off a glove, the goal shall be allowed.

Clearly he took his hand off his stick and bats the puck. Even if he is just trying to protect his face, he still did remove his hand from his stick and with a swating motion misdirected the puck into the net... intentional or not... clearly, it should have been no goal
