Rag XXV Official Information
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:31:04 am »
Dagorhir,

Here is the official information about Ragnarok XXV!

The Ragnarok XXV website is up - check it out for lots of great information.

Ragnarok will be held at Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, PA, the week of June 13th-20th, 2010.  The campground will be closed to mundanes for this week, giving us prime camping space, which should allow for 50-75% of camps to have access to power hookups, and 100% of camps to have running water.  There is no noise restriction.  If you desire a camp in the quiet / family area (no drumming or loud parties after 11PM) please indicate this in your registration.

For adults (18 and over), Ragnarok will be $50 for the week pre-reg, and $55 for the week on site.  Minors age 3-17 will be $30 if pre-reg, and $35 on site. On Thursday June 17th at 6AM, the price drops to $35 adults, $20 minors.  On Friday at 6AM, price drops to $30 / $15, and on Saturday the price is $20 / $10.  No day passes are available.

Merchant Registration can be handled by emailing Vanisia@dagorhir.com.

Cooper's Lake does not allow pets at this event.

Minors are only allowed to be on site while their parent or permanent legal guardian is on site.

Early arrival to the event is difficult.  There are two groups sharing Cooper's Lake the weekend before Rag, scheduled to leave on Sunday before we open troll.  Ragnarok is allowed a small group to be on site to set up, but your name must be included on a written list we will submit to the campground, and even then you will probably not be able to set up in your official campsite.  If you have to show up early to Cooper's Lake and are not on the approved list, it is possible to do so, but it will cost you $30/person/night ($15/minor) in addition to the normal Rag fees.

Amenities this year include separate, easily accessible fields for day battles (with the permanent castle, of course) night battles (with two light towers this year) and woods battles.  The walk from the furthest away campsite to the castle at the back of the battlefield will be 1/2 mile (same distance as black company to troll at the previous site), but if that is too much for you, there will be shuttles available from the campsites to the battlefield and back.  We will have access to two permanent shower houses, total of 8-10 stalls for men and women.  Due to campground restrictions, RVs will not be allowed this year at Ragnarok.

Additional amenities, rules and regulations can be found on the Ragnarok website. I look forward to seeing you both on and off the field as we celebrate the silver anniversary of the end of the world.

Regards,
Tannhauser

That is basically correct, with some caveats.  The campground will be closed to mundanes, so it will just be us there, but we will not actually be using the WHOLE campground.  We will be using specific areas of it, and Dagorhirrim are not to be in any other areas after dark, security will patrol.  We'll have more details about the specific areas of the campground we'll be using later.

This is great news. I'm definitely willing to drive the extra time to get a better campground, not to mention drumming until my hands fasten around my own throat. Many thanks to the Ragnarok business council and all who helped them.

The worst real estate at Coopers is nicer camping terrain than what we had at Spring Valley.

We are going to be camping on the best ground at Coopers.

I am excited.

Well thats a dire shame for me since im 17 and dont have a family member enthusiastic enough to go over to a different country for 1 week just for me  :'(.

Too bad my birthday is 3 months after Rag so it appears that I wont have an opportunity to attend Rag this year but I had a backup plan for this if it did occur and it involves a discounted flight and my birthday on the 23 of September... cough "Badon Hill" ;D.

Don't despair yet! Check with your local laws, see about temporary legal guardianship, and see whether: 1-your folks would go for that idea, and; 2- whether there's someone near you old enough to serve as a legal guardian and who wants to go to Rag, and that your folks would accept him/her as temporary legal guardian, and 3- bring Stylgar a case of musk Lifesavers. Don't skip step 3

They certainly do! They taste VERY strange, but Stylgar likes them. They're only marketed in Straya and Kiwiland, though.

Because if someone runs off and vandalizes something on our first time there (and only 1 in 300 Dagorhirim would do that... meaning there will be at least 5 such jerks there), Coopers won't want us back. Keep things contained and policed, and we'll be able to head off any problems and keep everything happy.

The area we will be 'contained' to holds 6000 at Pensic. It will feel spacious for us. And if we get crowded, we expand into the neighboring areas.

Added plus: everyone will be able to camp within walking distance of each other. If the whole campground were open and you camped in the opposite corner from me, there's no way I'd walk a mile to say hi after a hard day of fighting. :P

Echoing everybody on the thanks for the hardwork and persistence, T, you and all the researchers.

Of the 50%-75% of sites with power hookups, will we be allowed RVs? A couple in our Fellowship is interested in bringing one next year (mainly for medical reasons for her), and some of us are stoked to rig up a disguise to morph it into a castle :)

1. you speak strangely like an argonian from morrowind, which Taurthir likes.
2. a flaw in having a legal guardian for ragnarok is "minors are only allowed if their parent or permanent legal guardian". im not sure what definition you have for "permanent" so i think chances are slim.

Anybody wanna adopt an Australian. cmon this human needs a good elven or orcish home  :'(

3.even if I could not go, if you requested. I would send some of those lifesavers over if it is legal. as a part of dagorhir we are kin no matter where our chapters are located. I follow that belief like a blood oath.

also here are your lifesavers that you hold dear

Oops. Didn't notice the 'permanent' in T's original post. I wonder what the thinking behind barring temporary guardianship is, other than raising the bar so that only minors whose families are willing to subjugate their entire vacations to the wishes of a child can swing it.

I almost adopted my friend so he could get citizenship, I'll adopt you so you can go to Ragnarok!

I would swear my eternal gratitude to you if it was done. Then i could get an American citizenship and move to America in a few years and live my humble life as a dagorhir fanatic aswell. But to be realistic that would be a risk and also make you the target of all legal rights and responsabilities of adoption. So I really do thank you for the offer but I think ill stick to Badon Hill after all then we can celebrate the first official Australian chapter, person to go overseas for an event and my birthday. Its only 1 year and then I can be there. I am greatful to have found a community such as this and not because I just like Dagorhir but because of the strong use of "unity" in community. Anyway rant over, job done and you have my greatest thanks.

Back more on topic whats Ragnarok like in its best form?

Alric hit the nail on the head as far as why there are some blocks - this campground is HUGE.  Security will probably have a golf cart to patrol empty areas.  There is simply no reason for us to need 50% of the land there.  Also, there is a small area of 'permanent residents' that we will be respectfully keeping clear of.  Vanisia is working hard on the campground map now, and when she has it up, everybody will know which areas we are using, and it will hopefully make sense to you.

Actually, there is no spot on cooper lake campground that is more than three fourths of a mile from the farthest spot, and you really, really have to work to get more than a half a mile out of anything.

But that half a mile can be awfully far in the summer sun.

official pricing is now listed in the opening post.  Best news - pre-registering this year means that you only need to pay $5 more than last year.

Adults - $50 pre-reg / $55 on-site
Children (age definition coming soon) - $30 pre-reg / $35 on-site
Mid week "late arrival" discount information coming later

1. I am putting together a rag map which will show exactly which area we will have access to.

2. There is no pool. There is however a swimming hole on the far south side of the event.

Yeah, I should know better than to post before 9AM, lol

There is no pool. There is however a swimming hole on the far south side of the event.

There used to be a pool (when I was there last - a LONG time ago).
As for the swimming hole, let us not make it "classic" like Pennsic does.

I second this.

That reference assumes a working knowledge of what goes on at Pennsic... and since I have no interest in the SCA at all, maybe someone should explain it.

Your good linen will be soaked in sweat by the end of the day - it will be better for being washed with you in it.

When at Pennsic just be sure to avert your eyes when walking by the classic. Only the people who should NOT be naked are naked there. Ow! My eyes!

As a practicing nudist who weighs a bit north of two hundred, I must say Athelas disappoints me. When nude, I neither care what others look like nor do i care what others think of my slightly pudgy physique.

I live less than ten minutes from two of the largest nudist colonies in the midwest...

I, however, do not practice.

But, stylgar, you are sooooo cute without clothes! Pudge is not bad, I have plenty of that myself. We are not fat.... just fluffy, and cuddly and adorable.

It is those people north of 350# that worry me. Not so much their looks, but, dude, their health!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I am going to go pout now because I disappointed stylgar :(
