Ooh!  I got another link!  It's from Walmart, you might nor have this in your stores though....
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9870688
They are black, and mostly leather if you don't count the sole(Durable Rubber)  The sole and the rest of shoe are the same colour.

On the ones Hive posted..WTH.... those look like slick dress shoes.

On the wal-mart ones... I'd say they are starter shoes. With the intent to upgrade later.

On the boots by Valkyr... I just told my wife to get me those for christmas.... I love those.

I think Boots and footwear are one of the hardest parts of your garb to find. You need something that looks period but at the same time, feels good wearing them all day and will stand up to the fighting and abuse that we put them through.

But i am going to look into these ones that Valkyr put up. And Valkyr, if you have these, do they stand up well? And how are they at keeping water out?

This is why I advocate making your own period shoes. They look period (because they are), are comfortable (because they're measured to your foot), and are sturdy enough to last a good 6 months of hard use before repairs.

The boots stand up pretty well as far a cheap ren. boots go.  I haven't had a chance to fight in the rain or in a very wet area, but I can assume that they're not too waterproof, due to their construction.  Very good sole, and comfy to fight in.

I use Austrian motorcycle cavalryman's boots.
I prefer military style boots on the whole because of the intense ankle support, which most period shoes I've dealt with have none of.

If you wear long pants you can usually get away wearing work boots, either brown or black. We got his at walmart for like $30 bucks.

I've got a question...

Are steel-toe boots allowed if they look somewhat period like a pair of motorcycle boots?

I'd also suggest making a trip to your local thrift store and checking out the women's boots section. I've had great luck in finding period-looking/it'll-blend-in-well footwear there. Depending on your shoe size, you might find it worth your time.

I saw a pair just like these a few weeks back for about six bucks, and while they're not perfect, they are similar to the ones Valkyr posted:

I have been wearing the same  pair of German "jack" boots for years LARPing. Under my leg armor it looks great and will prolly be part of my "spug" garb for a little while. When pressed (especially in winter) the current crop of women's boots from Wal Mart are better than dress shoes or sneakers for garb.

Like I said, depending on your shoe size. I'm fortunate in that I can fit 'em. Your mileage may vary.

As a guy with size 12 feet who's been looking for cool, cheap boots since probably before you were born, I'd say you're S.O.L.  :( The good new is that you can find cool boots for men, if you're willing to pay new boot or custom boot prices. You might even luck into some of those East German boots.

So for those looking. I just came across some German boots (East/Jack not sure what is right) on sale on the Sportsman's Guide website. www.sportsmansguide.com
I think they were about $30.
