Gates of Summer VII - May 6th-9th
« on: November 24, 2009, 11:13:10 am »
Greetings Dagorhirrim! It's that time of year again here in the midwest.. time for us to tell YOU about Gates of Summer VII!

Why so soon? Well that's easy loves.. because not only is this going to be another 4-day event (much like War of the Iron Fist) but this is also to give YOU the opportunity to give YOUR input on the way Gates of Summer rolls out this coming May.

Our official dates? May 6th-9th, 2010 in our usual location in Holden, Missouri. (Never been there? Check out the Google Maps location by the lovely Soulsar! http://www.dagorhir.com/forums/index.php?topic=12116.0 )

Right now details are a tad sketch, because let's face it.. there's a good 6+ months between now and Gates, but there ARE a few things we DO know.

Event Fees: 15.00 for the entire 4 day weekend. Pre-Reg is no longer required to get the $15 entrance fee!

Minors in Attendance: We hate to do this, but our hands have been forced and we are now requesting that anyone under the age of 18 have a parent or a legal guardian on site. This also goes hand in hand with us politely letting everyone know that anyone between the ages of 18-20 who is caught drinking WILL be asked to leave, and if they have no one available in their camp to take them home; we will be forced to call their emergency contact. Likewise, anyone over the age of 21 caught giving a minor alcohol will be asked to leave the event. Dagorhir itself has a zero-tolerance policy and we WILL be enforcing these rules. Period.

Arrival Information: Since we're extending the event to include Thursday, arrival on Thursday is limited. We can't have anyone arriving before 5pm on Thursday, and there will also be an overnight cut-off. This is simply because we can't guarantee we'll have enough people on-hand to handle folks trickling in over night. After the Thursday night cutoff, Troll will re-open on Friday morning at 9am. I don't like to add the emphasis, but we absolutely, POSITIVELY cannot have people arriving before that time. Last event there was apparently some mis-communication somewhere and we had close to 20-30 people on site before Troll had not only opened, but even ARRIVED.

Weapons Check: Since Friday is going to be as chock full of battles as Saturday, we will be holding a weapons check from 9-11AM on both Friday AND Saturday morning. Much like "Rag Rules" - melee weapons/shields/armor checked on Friday will not have to be re-checked on Saturday. Missile weapons will still be checked every day. Please note: the RWC changes have -not- yet taken effect and will therefore -NOT- be enforced on arrows and javelins. However, please be aware that our weapons checking team will be placing a 'Warning' tag on your flight weapons that either are close to, or currently, failing the newest specifications. They will still be legal, but we are doing our best to circumvent potential problems in the future by letting everyone know if their stuff is borderline.

Also, anyone from neighboring realms who's interested in helping in any capacity, please feel free to contact me via the Midwest Boards, Facebook, or even shoot an e-mail or call me and we can discuss the details of the event. I still have need of people to host assorted tournaments, manage the 'heralding team', as well as taking any and all suggestions for battles on Friday and Saturday.

Ideally we're shooting for a 'Rag-style' two days of fighting, with two main 'scenario' battles and then assorted pick up battles carrying on from then on out. So what I need from YOU - are ideas for those pick up battles! Bring your best ideas to PM on the Midwest Boards or e-mail me (that way I have them in print!) and we'll do our best to get Gates of Summer kicked off in the best way possible.

As we get more information regarding things like clean up dates, potential day passes, and the like - I'll add those to the thread as well as keeping this first post updated so everyone sees the most current information. Anyone with any questions, feel free to post here or get in touch with me via another communication device and I'll be happy to answer any questions I have answers to.. or hunt down answers to the ones I don't.

 ~ ♥ Krystal

Oh yes, night battles are already a go for Friday night at least :D

Depending on attendance, we might throw down Thursday night too for the heck of it.

ME 2!!!!

I just might have to fly out to this event. I wonder if I can take a train or bus instead.  What would be the best idea...Im scared of flying...If I would plan on such a trip could I borrow weapons and a Tent?

I'm sure we can find an extra tent Widow :) I think a friend of mine has like... 3.. o_O and I plan on getting more since I've only got two and I never seem to have enough.

If you're gonna come in, find me or someone else on like Facebook or w/e and we can make sure someone goes to the bus/train/airport to pick ya up. ^_^

Yes, DIBS!!!!!

Or you can do what Jari is planning on doing and flying out here.  We've got people who will be more than happy to pick one or both of you up....not to mention give you a ride from the airport.  :P

If Jari, Blackhawk, Dibs and other board folk from the east make it out to Gates of Summer I'm gonna be an excited bastard. I'm ready to do some drinking. :) I plan on drinking a lil bit of whiskey with Jari (Also Tumbark if he makes it out *nudge*). Plus the fighting should be epic since it should be more dry/warm compared to earlier months.

Six months away and I'm already getting the urge to smash.  Love gates of Summer.

Edit:Also willing to help get you here if needed. I know there's a few trains and buses that run around KC area. Should be able to find some mode of transportation.

I thought about flying....but I think my wings would get WAYYYY too tired!
IF I go, it will be because the Warvan is needed out there for various reasons, which also means that IF I go, Axe & Arrow will be there because I'll be able to haul all that crap....um, I mean beautiful weapons ::) .....with me. Along with de dorf. Yay :D

Still a definite maybe!

I'm still trying to coerce Askarus into coming.. I think I might be whittling away at him. So by Gates maybe he'll be willing to come :D

And Faf's right, I know I'll be glad to pick people up from anywhere :D

The dates of this event put it the weekend before finals for SIUC.  However, considering that most of my stuff was due the week before finals (whis is the general norm for studio classes, and that's all I'm taking next semester), there is a very high chance that I will be there.  And as normal, there will most likely be a high contingent of people from Byzantium attending, as well.

Period.

Hey look, reading!

In the post at the top of the page...

However, you might want to check on the Midwest Dag Boards (google search it) under the events section, I think there might have been a little talk about changing it, but I haven't been on there in a while.

Also, you could ask questions from the people running the event who might not be on here, instead of getting some jerkhole like me telling you to actually read the stuff they already typed down.

That subject is goingto be brought up at thier next council meeting. We should have mroe details on the subject in a week or two. Be patient.

And I know that they have, in the past, allowed younger fighters on the field, but not quiet 13.  Youngest I have seen was 14.

i read everything on this board already, it says nothing involving, under 18 going down to 16 or lower, that is what i wondered, and that is what i asked, i have a transfer member who has been to gates and said he could only get 16 year olds in, on the other hand, there are multiple sources that report a younger age being allowed i posted here because i figured i could cut to the case and get my answer from the people who really know, now since you haven't decided yet i shall wait for a reply thank you for your time

Kolton of Haven was 14 when he first came, and the main reason he was aloud to was his father was onhand the entire time. PArental attendacne was required. Wether that hold true to the changing policies, I don't have the froggiest

As it stands right now, as long as their parent is on site the age does not matter.

What we'll be debating at our next official meeting is whether or not having someone appointed as a legal guardian (a unit-mate, sibling, etc) will be acceptable.

With-in reason. The event holders and heralds have the final say.

I am fairly certain my 5yr old will not be aloud on the field, though just about anyone who has met him could tell ya, He'd rock the field and could handle the hard hits. Though getting him to TAKE his hits is another story....damn kobald armor.

I was referring to attendance in general, since that's what the proposed rules/pending changes are actually affecting - not necessarily the fighting on the field per-say. :)

But you are indeed correct as it stands anyhow.

Dagorhir rules state that folks under the age of 16 may not fight at an inter-realm event. Depending on situations (such as parents being present, the person in question, etc) sometimes that rule gets overlooked.

At smaller events, this is a manageable situation to handle. At the HUGE events like Ragnarok it's written in stone. Under 16 may not participate on the field. Period.

okay so i ask, simply and plainly what age would u suggest i tell that they cannot come because they are too young, i assume my 15 year olds may be okay, maybe 14, but my two 13 year olds, are they gonna have to watch or can we squirm them in there, i know i am kinda pestin u with the same question but i just need an exact age to tell my fighters to just not bother
