Running the fiberglass through the PVC will weaken it, and gluing it between layers will weaken the shield it's self because the two layers will try and pull apart from another when you're hit. Here is a good tutorial for making a shield. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEUeYRbVNOk

......Just secured my handle to my punch shield today using guidance from this tut. The Gorilla Glue is still drying, so I can't tell if it's super sturdy or not, but I have faith in it.
