[Erekose of Gestiguiste]

Gates of Fire IV is in two weeks!  The event will be from Friday 4/23/10 through Sunday 4/25/10.  Only event staff may be onsite prior to 1pm on Friday.  If you arrive before then we may need to ask you to wait until check-in is ready for you. 

The event will be held at the Pioneer Park Campground, located at 273 Trent Rd. Somerset, PA  15501

The annual Gates of Fire spring inter-realm campout event is hosted by Gestiguiste, with assistance from The Spartans crew.  To help ensure your good time, please read and follow the Pioneer Park Campground rules at the end of this post.  If you have any questions, suggestions or constructive criticism, please post them here and we will provide a response.

This event is loosely based on the legendary battle of Thermopylae and Greek mythology for the Friday night games.  Battle event insights have also been drawn from other Greek battle events, such as the Battle of Marathon and the Battle of Plataea.

The cost for the event will be $20 for ages 15 and older, $10 for children ages 3-14 and free for Infants ages 0-2 or 100+.  (Hey, either way you’re drooling on yourself and wearing diapers!)  The event fee of $20 applies to all people 15+, regardless of when you arrive, whether or not you camp and whether or not you participate in fighting events and the feast.

      Noon      Everyone has departed

 

Pioneer Park Campground Guidelines:
 -  10 mph maximum for all vehicles.
 -  Please park and leave vehicles at your campsite during your entire stay, except to go to or from outside of park. 
 -  DO NOT DRIVE UP THE HILL FOR ANY REASON!!!!
 -  No moving of any fire rings.
 -  No cutting of any standing timber or branches.
 -  Pets must be kept on a leash, quiet and attended to at all times. 
     -All current health records must accompany pets. 
     -No pets permitted in any buildings or playground area.
     -Please clean up after your pets.
 -  Garbage: Please place any trash by your site marker.  Garbage bags will be provided if needed.
 -  QUIET TIME is 11:00pm to 8:00am.
 -  Absolutely no firearms or fireworks permitted in the park.
 -  Practicing of any bow shooting or clubbing be done only at designated areas and not at your campsite.

As usual I will be running the fighting on Friday.  the 4-8 time frame is relative to the level of interest. If enough people want to fight sooner, then so be it!

Gates of Fire Medics are always welcome.  Volunteer as much or as little as you want, pitch in a couple hours, to all weekend.     Both Camp area medics, and Top of the hill\Battle medics will be needed.  Come find us both in "The Cave" in Gestiguiste camp located close to the main pavilion.  It is the same location as my massage table.  Let us know what times you can help out.  The only rule is no drinking while on duty.  Please indicate if you can help out.

Camp area:  Rayne of Gestiguiste.  (Head Medic) Full Time (Can't go up the hill - Knee)
                 Warthog                    All Thurs, All Fri, Sat - until 7pm, All Sun until end.

I also will be posting the locations and directions to the local hospitals and walk in clinics for the surrounding Somerset PA area.  I suggest that at least one person from each unit print out the information ahead of time before arriving to the campsite, in case of any emergency.  SOME (A limited amount) of flyers with the information, will be on hand.

Hey, a few of my friends and i are looking to attend, we haven't ever participated in a large event but run them here in our area. We are not part of a unit, and don't know if we have to reserve camp sites. Can someone assist me?

DISCLAIMER: I am only trying to help and make sure you guys have a great event.

Did you follow a tutorial?  Was it specifically a Dagorhir tutorial or a tutorial explicitly recommended by a Dagorhir veteran or Chapter?  Did you follow it exactly, with no substitutions or modifications?  Have you ever been hit with a known passing Dagorhir weapon and do your swords hit similarly?

Just trying to make sure you don't drive all the way to Gates and watch all of your stuff insta-fail for something dumb.

If you are underage you need a notarized waiver signed by your guardian that will be there with you. If you are 18 or older you will sign a waiver on site that they will supply.

Tweek your profile says you are from NJ which is in our neck of the woods. Hit up the Taurendor boards and we may be able to help you out, be it with rides or if you come to a practice between now and the event we can check your weapons to make sure they will pass.

Also, if I bring a 2.75" stabbing club, and it fails because of the 3" interpretation, can I still get it passed as a green-only?  I like to use it as a down-stick.

Show up, fill out a waiver, pay your entrance fee, (buy a t-shirt!!!!) and pick your spot. So long as we have a waiver and entrance fee from you, you can fight, sell stuff, sit on ur ass all day, go home, whatever. Merchant spaces are the same as regular camp spaces: first come first served. MOST tend to be by the outlits to the right side of the road across from the pavillion. Check-in can dirrect you there.

Feel free to make a simple yellow tunic/tabard to wear at events from now on.  Nobody should have a problem with that, as long as you are obviously a non-combatant.  Also, try to always br aware of your surroundings.  Sometimes the battle comes to you!  We've all seen the videos of camera men getting blasted by football players.   Try to not be that guy!

Thanks Izad!  When you arrive once you're all set up, go to Gestigusite camp by the main pavilion and ask for Rayne or me in "The Cave", to say HI. 

Basicly, go ahead and do everything as normal, just during the battle if somone calls for a medic, everyone kneels and the nearest medic walks over and just make sure they're not dead.  Then we drag them off the field leaving a bloody trail, so that fighting can continue rapidly.       It's really very light work if we have more than one medic on duty at the same time.

   My wife, Odjit, is CPR and first aid certified and said she's willing to be an active medic.  She doesnt fight much so any medic calls and she'll come running.  She's dealt with some injuries that made me want to vomit.  Lets just say she earned her title of Odjit The Stitch.
