I actually am currently studying for my Italian proficiency exam next week, as luck would have it.

I just got approved for some grant money for a project this summer. Making a boar's tusk helmet and subjecting it to some stress tests involving bronze weapons

Right now I am working on feeling great after having completed a pair of splinted vambraces (just need to punch the lacing holes) and admiring this shield. Oh my god this new shield is so sexy, can't wait to get a handle and strap attached and just look at it longingly from across the room for so long.

I have more homework to do. I had thought that maybe if I got my paper and speech written today, I could get some PVC cut for arrowheads and lightweights....but I think I'm going to sew diapers. My speech needs visual aids, and I have a pregnant mommy in my unit that I'm sure would appreciate some fancy diapers

Working on a new linen bocksten tunic. Its wearable, but I'm still working on some embroidery. Ignore the fuzzy belly.

Close up view on the neckline, showing what stitching I have done. Its a chain stitch, with a blanket stitch next to it to hold down the white linen.

Just finished the finals for both of my classes!!!

And I am *so* glad the semester is over! Now, I get to focus on finishing up stuff for Gates of Fire!

Just finished cutting a shield core out of a 55 gallon drum. It is 31.75" wide across the face, and 31" tall. I am going to strap it, but I am thinking about putting a horizontal punch grip on it too, you guys think I should?

This sounds excessively wide, unless the curve is extreme. It'll be in the way of your shots unless you're like SUPER tall and gangly. Are you planning to strap it diagonally in the fist-near-the-top-corner SCA style or horizontally? Is this a curved rectangle or a heater-type or...?

The curve is pretty extreme, when measured across the back of the shield it is 19". I am thinking about doing the diagonal strap but I am not sure yet. It is going to be styled like a scutum. What do you think of the historical horizontal punch handle?

I dig it but it looks a little too modern to be considered medieval fantasy.

Of course I look at it and definitely see a 40k commissar coat. So that doesn't help, but I'm trying to look with an objective eye.

There is a good reason why it looks like a Commissar's coat. It's because it is.

Do any of you really think I'd wear something like that on the field? Besides the fact it showed up beyond our chosen period. It's way too nice to get dirty.

This is for off the field wear only, because like all Space Knights, I follow our rules.
