Casimir, he is banned for getting too many warnings. So yes, you are technically correct, as people get warned all the time. Stop being Mr. Passive Agressive about it.

Is active aggression better?  Granted, I only know two points of view on the matter, I think that it is BS that he got warned and/or banned for something that other people apparently get away with all the time.  I am not saying that they do, but with the system as it is there is no way of people knowing if others are being warned for things so it makes it appear to others that certain things are okay, despite being noted as against the rules, and several key people reinforcing these belief with their behavior on the boards.  Maybe it would be better to have it be standard procedure to have a mod call someone out when they receive a warning as Alric did with my last warning so that people will be like, "alright, people do get in trouble for doing that, I amnit going to make that mistake.  That's all I really have to say about that.

Aiden, I live south of Tennessee too, and I also have a lot of faith in my realm's tech and skill, I believe he is more refering to the lower Dag population density making it difficult to determine something's effectiveness in those areas.

I would never pick up a shield or bow that I had not seen dropped by the user, so I would have a pretty good idea of if it was broken or not.  Or let's use an example of a buddy and I switching gear on the field a ctually.  Just because I am shorter then him does not mean I should have to measure his shield in relation to my body to check to see if I am allowed to use it.  That is stupid and it negatively affects playability by slowing down the game.
As for weapons in general, if you don't want someone else using them, don't drop them.  And even then that is kinda garbage.  If someone grapples you and takes your weapon or arms you and grabs your weapon before you caan, they should be able to use it, not have to hand it back because it huwts yow feewings when over people use yow fings.  :(  I thought this game liked to pretend like it had some balls.
I am going to start marking my javs with the text "only to be used by Casimir Glassjaw, violaters will be reported to the head herald" until Dagorhir starts to grow a sack.

Don't pick up my personal weapons for any reason. I am pretty sure that is a commonly held practice in 95% of the LARP/Live combat games I have ever played it. Not that I don't let people use them, but take five seconds to ask. If you do pick up my personal weapon without giving a shout out the next feeling will my boot up your ass :)
If I get armed in battle, I'll pick up the nearest blue on the ground, asking the owner if present.

Don't pick up other people's stuff UNLESS it's arrows and you're an archer or a rock or javelin during a battle. Don't walk away with their stuff during rez battles. Besides that, stuff should only be moved if you're doing it to kepe the stuff out of harms way (like picking up an arrow if it's getting stomped into the mud or moving a shield because everyone keeps tripping on it). I wouldn't kick anybody, but I would chase them down and get my weapon back while reminding them that it's a pretty impolite thing to do (out of character). In general, don't pick up other people's melee weapons and use them. Some people put alot more time and effort into their gear, and while they know that combat will tear it up, having some random dude flinging their foam is not something that should be expected or accepted in the course of normal Dagorhir combat.

It never ceases to amaze me how it seems the longer someone has been fighting the less they care if someone picks up their gear and uses it when they are dead.

This thread is gear. Drop your junk and... never mind. :-[

With folks I know, I don't care if someone picks up and uses my stuff. At a major event, it's a different story. If something of mine leaves the place where I dropped it, I don't know if I'll ever see it again.

Besides, courtesy should be common.

Ok, I guess I'm the only one that has this view since no one else has shared it, so I'm gonna go ahead and share it. If I'm at an event and I don't feel comfortable with someone picking up my weapon, I don't drop it, I take death and rez OR die and fall on top of my stuff so no one can see it to think that it is ok to grab the weapon. If I drop the stuff or don't die on top of it, then that is me saying that it is ok to be picked up by someone else if it is needed quickly but asking is always nice, especially if they are going to need to run off and continue to use it.

BH,
That has not been my experience. I've seen vets have a larger stockpile of weapons and freely loan them out, but I generally don't see vets being cool with random kids picking up their gear off the field and fighting with it. I won't be a jerk if someone picks my stuff up, but I'll definitely be OOC and letting them know they should just use their own gear.

I tend to agree with you Aiden, but it also occurs to me that If I were to grab your weapon while you were dead, killed some folks, handed it back to you after, you wouldn't bat an eyelash.

The real fear is twofold:
Doode keeps your gear.
Doode chucks your gear someplace and you have to go around looking for it.
These are rare occurrences, most vets know better than to be that Doode.

At events, I ask the dead if they let me use their weapon/shield. If they do, I ask for their name and camp, I give them my name and camp, and then I ask them to stay where they are until the scenario is over. If they left the fighting area completely; I will try to find them at their camp. I dont like holding onto other people's gear for more than I have used it.

I thank them later and try to give them a trinket. Like a shark tooth.

usually if im in a bind where im running around looking for gear, I am saying "Whos got a shield" or "who's got a sword". Most dead are nice enough to resume being "dead" and have the sword sitting up as thou it were implanted or suddenly a shield comes rolling along.

I agree with Gorbag, and I have generally understood that as the way it is. Cover up what you want to keep, leave out what u could careless about. But as a matter of standard, i have seen people hold their weapons against their back once an arm is taken so as not to lose their sword.

Well, I might not say anything if it's gonna be a 3 second use and I am more lenient if it's a vet. However, I would still cringe, what with your self-professed destruction of all cores not made out of adamantium. I have a hard enough time just trying to keep my personal arsenal stocked with good blues, seeing someone else using up their lifespan just means I'll have to make more weapons sooner (which I hate).

I wanna re-derail! Mostly because I have a red sword that works very nicely for me and the select couple other people I let use it. I built an identical one for my husband after he snapped my first one.....and he snapped that one, too. So I don't let him touch mine. I don't let Jari use it, either, even when he asks real nice. I don't think the issue for other people "touching your stuff" is safety - it's breakage. One cannot remake a favorite weapon. To have some guy you don't know run by, grab your weapon without even saying "dude, c'n I use this?", crank somebody with it and snap it would suck. THAT is why I think asking or leaving it lie is important.

I have a favorite red, it was going on 3 years old with no problems - I lent it to someone (he asked) he wailed one shield with it and took the top off. I was not mad, because it happens sometimes, but I don't lend things out any more, that is why I have a hockey bag with 25 loaners in it, for that and for the new kiddlets
