They'd be wrong to do so, since aluminum isn't allowed. And at 18 ga, aluminum would crease with the first solid hit. At 11 ga, it'd probably hold up alright, but that's a lot thicker and heavier. I'd think an armor checker would notice a few things:
1. Wow, this stuff is really thick! It must weigh a ton!
2. Wow, this stuff is no heavier than 18 gauge steel!
3. Y'know, this stuff has a whiter and duller sheen than steel.
4. Why does it sound dull, almost like plastic, when I tap it with something hard?
And for the record, I don't hate on aluminum. It just wasn't available until 150 years ago. It's a modern metal so it fails on realism, and there's no compelling safety or playability reason to allow it.

I hate to drop the name of other 'games' but I feel I should point out that 16 Ga Aluminium is legal in the SCA, and when revetted will withstand ratan. I think it could withstand a lil foam...

Oh, and why? Dagorhir is a BATTLE GAME!

No one( who isn't dumb) is saying allun=minium can't work as armor. Several of us have already said it make great sca armor. So ****ing what?
1/8" abs plastic makes awesome sca armor. When made right and painted, it look JUST like painted steel armor. It's easy to form beautifuly, it's cheap and plentiful.
We can use it either and should not. Armor is NOT REQUIRED FOR DAGORHIR. These other materials are legal in SCA becuase armor IS ****ING REQUIRED.

Maybe, but the rattan fighting aluminum armor I've seen has all been in the 12 gauge range. I figure it's because some hardsuit fighters can put tasty dents in 14-16 gauge mild steel. I'm tempted to go get a sheet of 16 ga aluminum and beat on it, just to see what happens, but I can't afford dropping that kind of money on something I only plan to destroy. I'd start with foam, move on to rattan, and then finally steel.

BTW, why are we still talking about aluminum?

I would like to point out that in SCA heavy armor is REQUIRED.

Armor is not required to play dag, so we can be more picky with our material.

Because in strength, weight and expense, titanium bears a strong resemblance to mithril. And when you consider that the founders were as much Tolkienists as they were medievalists, you can see the appeal. But due to the very spendy nature of titanium, there's little danger of it becoming widespread.

Crappy looking or cappily made armor is too subjective to constitute a rule change.  Let "Dagorhir Dawrinism" do its thing...

If its crappy looking people will make fun of you and target you til you stop wearing it.

If its crappily made, then enjoy that crappy rivet or unsafe edge cutting you whenever you get hit.
