TUTORIAL: Mounting an Axe & Arrow Modular Arrowhead

(1/8) > >>

Stellaria:

Start by wrapping the arrow shaft with duct tape until it fits snugly inside the arrowhead core pipe

Slide the arrowhead on. It should be snug with no wobbling or rattling.

Tear a 6" piece of duct tape into 4 strips.

Center a strip on the shaft directly below the core

Flip it over and bring the ends up to the closed-cell foam section

Crossing the ends helps them fit snugger

Repeat with the other 3 strips in other directions

Use two 4" long pieces of tape to cover the space between the arrow shaft and the bottom of the closed-cell foam

Center the tape strip on the arrow base, and then stretch the lower corner up to the foam base

Then smooth down the upper corners. Repeat on the other side.

One last wrap of tape around the base to hide all tape ends

Finished!

Alain Jeune:
Thank you very much!

Stellaria:
You're welcome :) Your arrowheads were mailed out last night.

Bran from Albion:
Modular arrow heads scare me. I just remember when that shaft stuck in Fafnir's shield during a fight a couple rags ago. Arrows are by far the most dangerous thing in my opinion as it is, but this worries me even more. I know arrow heads that wobble are supposed to fail so it really shouldn't be a problem. However I also know that in the middle of battle arrows get stepped on and archers probably pick them up and fire without checking the heads every time. Does anybody share my concerns, or am I crazy?

Silk:
You are not crazy, you just don't have all the facts. I'm not going to write a huge confusing post about it but I will say this:
Modular heads are not the problem. Poor construction, mistakes in arrow check and not checking before firing are the kinds of things that lead to that kind of failure.
Don't fear the modular heads! They are a good thing.
