"I'm still confused as to why we are sneaking in.  You told me you and the Rangers were allies, and just because he was not ithlien doesn't mean you should have killed him.  I may never understand you Draclos, but i am glad i am on yourside."

((Yeah we need to catch up.   BTW is there anything i should know about you that i may have learned on the road and also what is our purpose in going to Ithilien since we never got to talk about it lol))

"Oh, so yea be a bard now? Something 'a heavily armed fer a bard, no?" Duncan joked with the new guy. Please don't let this one be all mystical too... He thought.

"A bard? Rainen hasn't told you about me, has he? Ah well, it can't be helped..."

The Dragonwalker began his tale of how he met Rainen and Svenrir, and his adventures with them. He made sure to be vague of his ties to Chaos for now...the main focus of his stories were of his childhood, his clan, and fighting side by side against a goblin horde, among other things. After his story, he began asking questions.

"What can you tell me of what's going on around here?"

"Not a whole lot, I must admit." Duncan sighed, he too had hoped that Jack had informed him better of what to expect and whom to trust, "We're the vanguard 'a Anvard's reinforcements. Though, truth be told, tis mostly the men of the Neigemont who march to their defense." Duncan placed his hand over the green-sword embroidered upon this tan tunic, "The squabbling city-states of the south are loth to provide any real forces to this endeavor..."

"Like we've got any real need of them!" One of his heaviest knights shouted out behind them, in a very heavy English accent.

"A few more rangers never hurt any'un." Duncan shouted back to him, "I wish that just a few of Dur Dagnir had shown..." Duncan muttered.

Aodhfin raised an eyebrow at Duncan and the others.

"Dur Dagnir? I'm unfamiliar with the term...who are they? And, if I might ask, do you know where Rainen is? It's been some time since I've seen him."

(( only that he has become, well . . . almost human in some regards, but very coldhearted and calculative when making decisions about humans. He has many followers but they are all his making, undead souls risen from the land to serve his purposes of cleansing the land, even if in their past life they had attacked the forests. As for Dralcos himself, he has revealed no weaknesses to Randern, they may be traveling buddies but he's not gonna give away information like that to just anyone. anything about Randern i should know from travels? ))

"Again, while I am in good standing with the leaders of Ithilien, not all rangers agree to stand side by side with some 'swamp thing' in a fight. I have good standing with them because I AM nature which they respect very much." taking the time to lean back in the seat a little as they continued on the road.

"Most rangers are young and inexperienced, and as such will shoot on sight from time to time on any monster that looks hostile to them."  Dralcos took his pointer finger and tapped his forehead with it, "They are very good marksman. Hehehehee." Dralcos flicked the reins making the horse team pick-up the pace.

Again Dralcos gave a wry smile, "And it's not my health I'm worried about. You, Rainen, and his father didn't seem to meet eye to eye when you first met, remember?" Chuckling a little remembering Rainen's arrow landing at Randern's feet.

"okay i see your point, and your right Rainen or his father may have his men watching for me at the gate i should lose the cloak shouldn't I." he mumbles under his breath "I still don't see why you had to kill to innocent people." loader now in a conversational tone "What is the plan as we near the gate and then once we get in.  Also you should probably fill me in on some key does and don'ts."

((Randern's great grandfather was an orc.  Randern looks human in everything except that his skin is a very slight green color.  He wears the hood because people tend to judge him and he finds it easier to talk to people who do not know him with the hood up.  He has a quick temper too, which you learned on the road, and it is brutal but it goes away as quickly as it comes and he is good soon after.))

"Dur Dagnir? I know not what it means in their dialect of elvish...They're a group of rangers that patrols the large forests of Southern-Anvard. Maybe that's what it means?" Duncan paused in thought, "As for Rainen, I do not know. I had hoped to meet him, Jack has spoken very highly of him."

Rainen, take your time. Life comes first. Our thoughts be with him.

Blessed are those whom take the next step on the journey before us, for they are the truely brave.
Take assurance that they are not alone on this path, as they join with all those who came before.
Let your remorse flow forth, but celebrate their deeds, that tomorrow be a brighter day.

((Sorry guys. I'm pretty brain dead... Lemme summon something up.))
--The inn--

The mood in the inn was tense, but the woman with the blade relaxed at the sight of the young Lieutenant. Silvca liked Zane more than his older brother.

The Rangers in the room all sheathed their weapons and sat back down, though Silvca kept her weapon very close at hand.

"Please, do continue LT, I love this story..."

The dumplings were brought out in a large tray and set in the center of the squared table. Huge, steaming masses of dough and delectable contents. The scents wafted up to Zane's nose, making his mouth water some.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--The road--

The column of men marched into town, getting wary looks from those passing by. Sneers were quickly destroyed when the Rangers escorting them had come through the massive gate. It took a long while for the entire host to assemble in the tight village square.

"Citizens of Ithilien, these rugged men are our friends and allies, and should be treated as so. Lets get a feast going, shall we!?" The Sergeant shouted to all those who could hear.

No one would sleep on an empty belly this night in Ithilien.

Draclos and Randern continue to ride toward the city (hopefully while giving Randern tips about how to not get killed)    The city (or woods, or what ever we would see which would indicate we are close) Comes into view on the horizon, but it still seems distant, as we continue to ride.

((My apologies, Kossak.))

--Amadeus--

You are swiftly fitted full of shafts, and as you're sprawled out on the path, three men drag your corpse away to be nailed to a tree. Your ears hardly registered the unified snap of dozens of bow strings or the dull thud of arrows punching through your ribcage.

((Now that that's out of the way... Casimir, could you explain WHY I had him killed? My brain is on the fritz.))

--The gate--

((Kossak, this is a postern gate, not the same one the knights entered.))

The Ranger addressing the Chaosmen snorted.

"So be it. You shall be allowed entrance, but stir up any trouble, and the whole of Ithilien will bear down upon you and yours. I grant you admittance. Be swift about it."

The man nodded to two younger Rangers to escort the Chaosmen to an empty barracks not far from the walls. The cloister was dark and dreary before servants could light torches and candles. They were given the facility to use as they please. Although, Rangers quietly walked amongst the roof tiles of the one floor barracks, eying them carefully from their vantage points. A runner came a short while later giving the time of the meeting to take place. It reads;

"Main village square. Three lefts, four rights. Meeting with knights and yourselves. Behave.

-Timmourne Darkwater"

((I'm going to assume that the village looks Gondorian in design, being their colony essentially?))

Duncan and his men glanced about the tiny village and awed at its construction. Magnificent masonry, the likes of which, within the Neigemont, were only seen within the estates of nobility and the kingdom's many castles. Yet at the same time, there was much in the way of magnificent carpentry that would make any man proud to call this village home. However, this village clearly was not routinely garrisonned, for its central square was scarcely large enough to hold their small party. Though, the walls looked formidible enough...
The news of a feast excited Duncan's men, who had for quite a time been eating only what they could hunt. Duncan appreciated the boost to his mens' morale.
"Sergeant. I really must speak to your commander. My second will see that my men don't get too rowdy." Duncan turned about and whistled, "Knight-Commander! Stephens!"
"Sir?" The heavily armored man responded by walking to his commander.
"See to it that the men get situated." Duncan ordered.
"Of course." The knight nodded.
"Keep it within reason." Duncan whispered to his second.
"Understood." He said quietly, before turning to his men, "Alright, we rest here!"
"Sergeant, if you would..." Duncan requested.

((Theres more wood in the works than typical Gondorian stuff. My Ithilien doesn't like Gondor... So our stuff has a more Celtic feel to it, and less gloomy mainland Europe.))

--Village square--

The Sergeant smirked.

"Certainly. Rainen should be waiting. Erhm-" He looked around with a confused expression. Then, hailed a small knot of Rangers standing nearest the wall talking amongst themselves. Their senior noticed and the group trotted over.

"Sarge?" He said, giving a quick salute.

"Get these men situated and the surround on extra guard. At nightfall, lock the gates." Now in a hushed tone so that only the Rangers could hear," We have movement reports. Be wary on the walls, lads." With a quick salute from the group, they trotted off to individual destinations, no doubt fetching quartermasters and more hands.

Now, turning back to Duncan, he grinned.

"Shall we?" He motioned his hands towards a wide road, cutting through the center of the village. At the end of it, he could faintly see the outline of a rough keep.

Radok and Clanic read the note together, "Behave?  These rangers think were all like tribesmen."  Clanic said to Radok.

The two acquainted themselves with the barracks, it was sparsely furnished, very little in ways of ornamentation.  Radok felt right at home, growing up in a nomadic family of Skull Worshippers.  Clanic constantly dusted himself off, not used to the dirt and grime.

"Some of us were at one time," Radok growled.

"Yes, yes...I know.  My apologies Skull Lord," Clanics voice dripped sarcasm.

"They watch us, I can feel them nearby," Radok lowered his voice and removed his helm.

"Aye, but we must be diplomatic my brother.  It is the Warmaster's order."

Clanic also removed his helm and placed on his ornate and arcane robes.  They were deep blue trimmed in gold.  Strange shapes and runes danced across the surface along with what looks like faces trapped under ice.

Radok continued to wear his blood red, black, and bronze armor.  Placing only a black cape stitched with a fist engraved with the Skull Rune of Khorne.

"Then let's not keep them waiting," Radok turned to the door and marched out into the streets with Clanic behind.  As they hit the roads and alleys they could feel the eyes of the settlement upon them.  Small children looked upon the men as the figures from their worst nightmares.   Radok growled at the children and they ran.

"Good meat," he mumbled.

"Warmongering fool," Clanic said under his breathe as they approached the square.

Dralcos picked up the pace as the village came into veiw below them. He knew they were close, and by now watching them as he got close enough to see movement inside the gates. They'd been followed since 5 minutes ride after they crossed the border. Perfect timing on their approach, as expected by their scouts . . .

He slowed the cart to a crawl and looked around a little. He sensed chaotic energies here along with neutral powers. This village was in deep trouble if anything were to start here, be it invasion or between . . . 'allies'.

Hitting very close to the 300 yards, Dralcos stopped the cart entirely. He whispered to Randern as he leaned over, "Randern, be very still and do not draw you're weapon whatever you do, we're in their hands now."

Dralcos stood and hailed the bushes with a wave of his arms on each side of the road, "You might as well show yourself rangers, I know you were about to peg us as threats if we didn't stop before the village. We've come for business."

Duncan saw the Sergeant and his subordinate exchange a few tense words, though he could not hear what either had said. Given their tenseness, he could guess. A small village on their boarders, most likely under-defended, they had every reason to be...
"Aye" Duncan nodded and the two turned towards the keep. It was nearly a minute before Duncan spoke again, "Did I hear you correctly that Rainen, son of Timmourne resides within these walls?"

Aodhfin jogged forward, hailing the Sergeant and Duncan.

"Oy! You didn't forget about me, did you lads? I've been wondering about a certain crazy Ranger.....were you heading there now?"

The Ranger Sergeant looked back at Aodhfin, smiling sheepishly.

"My apologies, Master Dragonwalker. Do come with me." Then, turning to Duncan.

"Aye. His father sent him out to personally check each garrison. He just so happens to be here for this day to check ours... Hence why his brother is here. He should be waiting in the courtyard of that keep o'er there."

The man assumed a cold face, spying tall figures, taller than normal men, shift around the courtyard ahead. He could see through the open twin gates that the good Captain had called others to the meeting...

"Brother?" Duncan said with a mild bit of start, "I was unaware that he had any kin..."
Silence reigned over them for a few moments as he wondered why Jack had forgot to mention such a thing? Surely his brother must've been just as seasoned a warrior as himself... He then shrugged dismissively, deciding that he would meet the both, if he had the chance.
Approaching the Keep's gates, he looked up from his musings to see two 'men', if they could be called such. They stood much taller than any man he had ever met and they gave off a foreboding aura. From the reaction of his minder, Duncan could tell that he was at unease aswell. With great subtlety, he reached for his belt for reassurance that his dagger was still close at hand. He had no desire to fight a Jotun again, let alone two...

((Jotun: (Jo-Tun) is Norske for Giant. In Norse lore, they are huge beasts that appear as men, but are opposed to the Æsir (Gods). However, in the forests and plains to the north of the Neigemont live a race of giant-men (who stand 7'-8' tall) whom routinely raid the northern most territory of their lands, which they also refer to as Jotun.))

((I'm quite aware what a Jotnar is :P My closest comrade in arms is among their kin.

...And Zane? A seasoned warrior? Hehe... *Falls over laughing*))

--Courtyard, Ithilienese keep--

"Aye. Rainen's brother, Zane, is a Lieutenant and Combat Engineer in the RoI. Heh, he's younger than any lad to ever take such a rank. But that is another story... These two here seem to be... Chaos. Best be on your guard, gents. Cept' you, Master Dragonwalker. Maybe you know these bastages..." The Sergeant made a point by keeping a heavily gloved hand on the pommel of his broadsword.

A short, bearded man was sitting outside the main gate to the keep, balancing a great axe on his shoulder.

"Master Rainen shall be out in a moment. Wait here." He said gruffly, staring up at the two mountains of men. He scratched idly at his beard as the second group was led up.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--The forest--

Another rustle from the bushes, and out emerged three men with draw bows. To their right flanked walked a tall, young woman. He hood was left to rest on her shoulders, compared to her companion's pulled hoods. Her hair was as brown as tree bark and her eyes a green to match the leaves. She snorted once and drew her broadsword, holding it against her greaves in her right hand.

"Identify yourselves and your business in Ithilien, or die where you sit. Speak quickly. I have no time for games."

To Dralcos, he could identify the young woman's dogtags swaying on her brigandine in the breeze. The mark indicated her a Watch Sergeant.

When no one spoke up Grimmer gulped a bit. "Okay, well. I can hear it another time. It is getting late and I really need my sleep if I am to finish my current task. I appreciate the hospitality but I must retire." Grimmer smiled his usual smile. This time showing no teeth. He had learned that teeth do not make a nice smile here. He walked over to the staircase in the inn and looked at Silvca, "I will be up at dawn to begin my journey to the interior of Ithilien. I look forward to seeing your beautiful country." With that he walked up stairs and went to bed.

Aodhfin grunted a little. Chaos here? Other than him? Well now.....that's interesting. Very interesting indeed. He vaguely remembered the meeting that took place some time ago, where he watched from the shadows as Kossak, Rainen, Timmourne, and others were attacked for no reason.

"I can't say that I've met many besides the Warmaster and Kossak, Sergeant. These two may be strange to me, but if Kossak or Svienn sent them, I doubt they're here to cause trouble. Most of the members of the Black Crusade, like me, aren't mindless killing machines, and have much better control and honor than given credit."

He thought for a moment, then continued.

"In any case, I'm surprised that they're here. Do you have any information, by any chance?"

((Well, that'll no doubt make for some interesting RP then...
As for Zane...neither Jack, nor Duncan even knew that he existed before now. Duncan'll get one heck of a surprise won't he?))

"So, you're Ettin? Dark ones? Those opposed to the Æsir?" Duncan looked at Aodhfin, then to the two in the keep, then back to him, "...great. I left the church to get away from this..." He closed his eyes and gently shook his head as he sighed.

Aodhfin shook his head and chuckled.

"I doubt you'll be hearing much in the way of sermons, Duncan."

He grew silent as they drew closer, studying the other two Chaos warriors as best he could.

((Dralcos, bringing in real world events? You have just risen in my approval meter by like ten levels.))

All across Ithilien the dusk that had hung over the land now seemed to fade to the dark cold black that is night. The many travelers and inhabitants along the roads now faced even more terrors the day holds at bay...((In other words, its nighttime.))

((D-d-d-d-DAY TURNS NIGHT. Hehe. RPers be wary, this is when Ithilien gets scary.))

--Overview--

The sun made it's final trek across the western horizon, setting itself down after a long day of work. As night fell over the land of Ithilien, the tall pines and oaks cast jagged shadows across the ground. They creaked and groaned in the wind, amongst themselves, ignoring the settlement below. Even the trees had to answer to the long, shallow note of night.

Scout horns blew out over the patrol area, and the gates were being drawn slowly closed, offered those outside a few moments to find safety in the town. Those who did not make it must wait out the night, beyond the gates solid safety. The woods began to fill with creeping, whisplike fog. The billowing moisture seemed unnatural, being an iridescent green. It flowed over everything in the forest, stopping only at the cold stone walls of the village.

Braziers and torches flared to life in those moments, and the Rangers on watch pulled their cloaks tighter and adjusted their armor, making ready to sit out the long night... And whatever it may have to offer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--The woods--

"Oh... Well, then we should escort you back to the village, Sergeant." She said, giving a salute. Instead of the others lowering their weapons, they simply all targeted Randern now.

"First... Who's this one?" She looked uneasily around at the darkening forest, and prayed they would give quick answer. Her comrades felt it too. The long night of Ithilien was something every man and woman feared.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--Keep courtyard--

The man at the gates snorted once more, eying the surrounding with distaste. Nightfall. Pulling his belt up further and adjusting his armor, he stomped three times to ward off any malicious spirits. Though this seemed futile again when he looked up at the Chaosmen once more. A tapping on the gate behind him almost made him jump, but pride kept him on his feet.

"The Captain will see you now..." He said, wrapping his axe head on the gate in signal. Immediately, the great iron door was swung inward. He motioned for the two groups to follow the squad of Rangers waiting just inside.

"Follow us." Their officer said gruffly, watching them carefully in the dark of the portcullis.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--The inn--

Silvca took to finding her watch partner in the inn, and set out to guard the walls. She would seek out Grimmer carefully the following morning. With a nod to Zane, she sped off. Zane took to taking a nap on a bench at the back of the inn. Several faithful Rangers sat around him, guarding, caring for the safety of Rainen's younger brother. Everyone loved Zane, as random and strange as he was. They would not let any harm befall him.

"There is another here that serves the brass throne other than you Skull Lord," Clanic's magickal prowess allowed him to pick up in slight changes to the Winds.

Radok scanned the crowd, "I see none here baring his mark."

"He is here...I am certain..." Clanic was cut off as the doors opened.

--------------------------

(Outside)

The other Chaosmen were camped out in a small clearing, the giant sleeping noisily.   Still they waited for woryk from inside.

Duncan kept silent as he followed the rangers into the keep itself, subtly keeping an eye on the ones of 'chaos'. Just as he was about to follow the large choasmen in, Duncan hesitated. He could feel a change in the air, something sturred just outside. Though he was unsure of exactly what it was, he was grateful that he would not be sleeping outside the walls tonight...
Without a word, he continued, eager to get his official business done with. With luck, he would be back to commanding his usual squad before long...
