I need to cancel my dagorhir chapter contract.
« on: June 28, 2011, 10:31:48 am »
Hello I need to talk to some one about canceling my chapter contract. It would seem that the second founder of Arogoth decided to move it from fort Myers to Naples with out consulting me. I wish him good luck with that, but I do not have transportation to Naples this is why I was trying to form a chapter in fort myers were  I live.  Once I find a new second I will found a new one in fort Myers

Google says that's only 35 miles away - am I reading the map correctly?

My home chapter up in PA, Angaron, stretches from Pittsburgh to North East, PA, 140 miles away. I know of other chapters that have a similarly large geographic spread. It sounds like you and your friend are in a good position now to start two units with a friendly rivalry.

Unless you meant Naples, Italy, in which case I understand the difficulty.

Well that would be swell but I have no transportation. It is 45 mins away and my whole reason for starting  a chapter in fort myers was so I would not have to worry about transportation. There will be a rivalry all right, You see he used me to get a chapter started then take over and move it with out even consulting me. He has betrayed my trust. I will form a new chapter or perhaps a unit under another Florida chapter. But I would like my contract for arogoth ended as I am no longer a part of it.

well if your the founding name on it, send an email to chapters@dagorhir.com IE graymael and tell him whats up. He is the only one who can deal with it. If there arent 2 names on it, or the fact that the chapter is said to be in one city and is in another is enough to throw it out.

Sucks about your luck. But I drive 30 minutes to the practice I run, and 45 to two other practices a week. I understand no transportation sucks but its quite common to have to travel to fight. It makes larger realms and better fights.

You could technically have the same chapter in two places.  Albion does that from time to time ever since Kargonia defected to them, but Kargonia still holds practices as "Northern Albion."

Zandakar said what I was thinking. Chapters are geographical umbrellas that provide structure to a region, but units are where the action happens on the ground. You can have a chapter than spans two cities, and each city can have its own unit (or ideally, many units). The units run their own practices in Ft. Meyers and in Naples, and the chapter provides the overarching structure for the greater Southwest Florida region.

It's every chapter's hope to spread from the founding location to the surrounding cities. It just sounds like this change happened to your chapter before you'd really gotten things off the ground, which sucks, but isn't insurmountable.

That said, if you just want to get out of the contract with your friend who moved away, email chapters@dagorhir.com and Graymael can take care of it for you.

At one time Eryndor had branches in the northern tip of Michigan, the center of Michigan, the metro-Detroit area, Toledo, OH, Bowling Green, OH, Atlanta, GA, and a smattering of people in several other locations. There is no reason that your group cannot be located in multiple areas.

No what sucks is the fact that there was only two of us and i needed his help to start recruiting and he decided to just up and move to another city because he did not want to drive to fort Myers. I have not even been able to get any one to come to a practice.  I would not really care but this is something i have wanted to do for a long time and his leaving just made it  that much longer before I can make dork war. I was doing all the work and he just up and moves it out from under me.

I doubt dag was his sole reason for moving. Also, I shouldn't know this much about the internal quarrels of your young realm. This isn't helping your recruiting one bit.

Man up and find some fighters. You're not the first to hit a road block in establishing a chapter, and you won't be the last.

Hey I have to start a whole new chapter but first I'm going to recruit fighters. I have been trying to get into dag for three years with no luck. there is very few people in bumf**k fort myers who are interested in this sort of thing, If you are not  a redneck riding a four wheeler drinking a beer. you will find it hard to recruit. Most of the ones who might be interested are pasty dorks that cant pull them selves away from there Xbox/playsation/computer long enough to know there is a world out of doors. As far as maning up i think i am doing pretty good, most people would have quit by now, yet here i am slogging along still trying after three unfruitful years.

Ok, here is what people are trying to tell you:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO START A WHOLE NEW CHAPTER.
You can both operate groups in 2 separate towns, both under the chapter name you are using now. It's not like he's moved 500 miles away and took 30 people with him - he's a relatively short distance away and the two of you don't have any membership to speak of to quibble over at the moment.

How about, instead of being combative about the issue, the two of you work out a 2-location solution.
Do you have a storyline that your chapter operates from? If so, you could each choose a group of people from your storyline to represent and recruit people into. THE TWO GROUPS DO NOT HAVE TO OPERATE THE SAME TO BE PART OF THE SAME CHAPTER.

Take a deep breath, try not to make a big deal about it, and just keep plugging on. It's ok for a guy that had to move to decide to keep recruiting for his chapter and run practices 45 minutes away from the original practice location. It means MORE PEOPLE. Try not to take it so personally.

OK here is  the thing, I will not be apart of that chapter be cause he betrayed my trust. I understand it just a game. but I still am a man of some honor. If he had came to me and said hey man, I do not want to drive forty five minutes to fort myers, is it cool if i start a unit in naples. I would have been like well that sucks but sure good luck with it. No he just started it and pretty much left me swinging in the wind. I am all for there being more dagorhir groups out there. I would just like to start one close to home. As such i would rather now start a unit for any other chapter in Florida.

Sounds more like a communication breakdown than a betrayal of trust. I have no claim or interest to know the whole story, but my experience with human nature tells me the root of the problem is 95% likely to be a communication breakdown. Go ahead and contact Graymael. He'll probably contact the other guy, attempt some arbitration, and hopefully get you both to bury the hatchet and proceed with a single chapter covering both cities. If no agreement is possible, you can both start over in your respective cities.

Regarding having a nascent realm spanning two cities that are 45 minutes apart: it's not a big deal. Guilder is a very young realm, and it currently spans from Lake Worth, west of Fort Worth, to Cumby (about an hour east of Dallas) and in the other direction from Hillsboro to Denton. That's at least two hours' drive east-west and close to that time north-south. You run your practice, they run theirs, and now and then you get together and rumble as time and transportation allow.

Wow there Stell you do not even know me. did I offend you some how?  get over my self. so because i feel wronged by some one screwing me over now I am egotistical and conceded  . Hey i felt a little betrayed. Why not try looking at it from  my perspective before you judge me so. I have wanted to join dag for a long time, and it was starting to look up, then the guy you started a chapter with just says well forget about you I will just do it here so i don't have to drive. Perhaps I was a bit dramatic, but hey who likes to get the rug yanked out from under them.

OK Whisper, good point but he never even tried to contact me. he would not return my emails, Honestly if it were all about communication. I would understand. I just am not willing to have a contract in something i can not even attend. A betrayal of trust happens when I asked him before we started are you sure you want to drive up here for practice and he said sure no problem lets make this happen. then turns around and does the exact opposite.

Your last post is a little dramatic too. She's just saying that it's not as big a deal as you're making it out to be, certainly not worth splashing it all over the national boards. We tend to keep local things local in Dagorhir; no one really wants to hear about intra-realm dramaz here.

You don't need a local realm to do Dag. Yes, every one of us here has a duty to promote this game as much as possible and bring new people into the fold at every chance. But- Dagorhir is events. Too many realms out there settle for 6 nerds running around in sneakers in a park once a week. That isn't Dag to me. Until you have the means both monetarily, and experience wise, to take those kids and turn them into something respectable, maybe you shouldn't run a chapter. It may be hard to get to events right now in your life, but that is what Megabus is for.

So e-mail Graymail, if you must. Then either content yourself to hitchhiking to outside practices/events, or get your life straightened enough to do a decent job of running a chapter that will not go belly up or drown in mediocrity. When I first found Dag the local chapter leader had just started a realm. Unfortunately he was socially inept, unemployed, had no transportation, didn't understand advertisement principles, and had no clue what he was doing. I bailed off that sinking ship, then helped establish a realm with some other real life savvy people once that old one inevitably collapsed.

You sound enthusiastic, but that just isn't enough most of the time.

Jolin i has an idea.

Here is your realms back story.  Two men had ambitions to rule a realm together in a central capital, until one day when the two men began to feud.  After the two men established a realm  the one man split and started to build his own private forces.  The other man feeling like his friend would betray him decided to do the same at his hme city.  The two are nor in a civil war each one trying to out do the other and win sole leadership of the realm, but until that day the still rule as one.
You would be one unit

he would be another, and you would be in a "civil war"   though you would still run the realm together, meaning don't take the story completely literally, but still have your individual units and have a rivalry.

Sounds like a Romulus and Remus story to me ;)

One side should stay pinky and the other turn green. Then it is not rivalry, it is a race war!

With more groups in a chapter will make it more locations and times available for others to join.

OK guys I am sorry for airing out my crap, I should just have left it at the first question.  lets just say i needed to vent and had no one else to talk to about it. I apologize for the temper tantrum.

No apology is needed (but it is a nice gesture).

Just do us all a favor.  Recruit people for your chapter and help it grow.  Work with your fellow Dagorhir chapters there in Florida to hold inter-chapter events and start building some awesome campouts for the rest of us to come down there and raid when it gets cold up north.

Oh, and have fun too!  ;D

I didn't read all the way down to the bottom, this looks more like a matter of wounded pride rather than betrayal of trust, which leads me to agree with stella. Calling off the chapter agreement does two things: puts road blocks in front of both of you, and kinda makes you look bad, as if you decided to pick up your toys and go home when someone offended you. Quit sulking and go make dork battle.

At one time Eryndor had branches in the northern tip of Michigan....

Northern tip of LOWER Michigan. Never in the U.P which is of course the ACTUAL northern tip of MI. Gods! we do exist up here, you know.

Anything north of Mackinac is Svenland!  ;D
