Fanboy weapons
« on: July 04, 2011, 03:14:12 pm »
We get a lot of fanboy weapon proposals coming through here, and they often and rightly get shot down as impractical and silly.

BUT...

I'm sure we all have guilty little secrets. Science fiction, game, and comic book/manga weapons that we'd love to have in real life, no matter how unrealistic they are. What's yours?

Mine used to be light sabers, but there was another show in the 90s that featured a weapon that stole my heart. Babylon 5's Mimbari battle pike. It's like a stone or metal staff that can collapse into the size of a soda can, or expand back out into full length in an instant, with enough force to knock someone out while doing so (I love that episode)! With a little strategy and luck, you could instantly turn a bad 1 vs. 3 encounter into a 1 vs. very demoralized 1.

Agreed, but aside from diamond-like cross sections, It's probably not gonna happen within the safety rules.

I'd like real looking but safe weapons, too. But just to clarify, I'm not necessarily talking about weapons for Dagorhir. I've got little interest in using a staff in Dag, but carrying around a soda can that converts forcefully into a staff would be a Super Happy Fun Thing in real life. :)

There are two styles. I actually prefer this one better, it lets you employ both the Kama and chain with one hand.

OMG! They made a movie of 'The Tenth Victim?' I own that book, along with it's mate, 'Victim Prime.' I'll have to track that down and rent it someday.

Oh, fanboy weapon? I guess what I really wanted was fanboy weapon skill. Ie: the ability to fight and make it all appear like a scene from a 'Three Mustketeers' movie. Light hearted, dashing, wicked fast.

Some day, I actually do plan on building a Dagorhir-legal Dragonslayer.

I can actually I've done it
You'll want a sturdy core like 6ft bandshoppe or such because pvc is way too weak, then it's foamsmithing 101 for 4-5 layers then your last two layers are going to be a layer of spacers that actually give the blade it's form, and your final layer...dependin on if you make that spacer layer a non-consistant layer like i did...roughly 3" apart and gradually increasing the number of layers on each spacer, give yourself plenty of handle for controlling the blade, and generous OC for a stabby if you do one

Ooooh, let's see...

How 'bout the Axtinguisher?

No, I don't play Team Fortress, but ironically I could probably do that once my PD skills are up a bit higher.

Gun wise, it would definitely have to be the Brute Plasma Rifle:

In time maybe with PD I can achieve something like it.  But I still can't rape bitches with it. :(

You can put spikes on a shield. They just won't do any damage.  >:(

I have a late 70s comic book (imitating manga) in which one of the mecha had breast-mounted rockets. Of the team (Blonde-haired white male, Japanese woman, and afro-sporting obligatory black guy), it was the black guy's weapon. Go figure.

The "glave" from Krull would be awesome. Or it would be if giant,five-bladed throwing star wasn't ridiculous.
