Criticize My Duel! MEGATHREAD
Garret Ironshield:
Welcome to the "Criticize My Duel!" MEGATHREAD! Let's get right to it, then.
DESCRIPTION: In this thread, I hope to create a place for fighters to post their duels and, in turn, have their duels criticized in a constructive manner. Through this thread, I hope fighters can find ways to improve their fighting through the advice of others.
PURPOSE:
* To help fighters advance their technique through constructive criticism.
* To expose fighters to knew ways of thinking and fighting.
RULES:
* Keep it civil, or don't talk/type.
* Only post videos of yourself or videos of other by request only.
* Give credit where it is due.
* Do not blatantly insult other fighters' techniques. That's not cool.
* Please use correct grammar/spelling. It doesn't help us if we can't understand you.
* If there are other fights/duels at some point during the video, please indicate where your duels are in the video.

EXAMPLE: The below is an acceptable post of/answer to a dueling video.
Example Video:
A dueling video of me. We were doing Ironman Duels, in which when a fighter wins, he become the "Ironman" or champion and must duel until he loses. Whoever kills the Ironman take his place as the new Ironman.

Acceptable Answer:
First of all Garret, you don't seem to have a very planted or strong stance. In fact, you seem quite off-balance. A good shield push could send you careening off balance and allow your opponent to slaughter you.
Secondly, your shield grip is not very sturdy. A simple hack could move your shield out of position and open you up to a flat wrap or other shots. You should try holding the shield at an angle, as in point the shield edge towards your opponent. This way, you take the hits on your shield more solidly and you are in a better position to shield edge your opponent.
Try these techniques and get back to us on how it worked out for you.

Hope the thread helps those of you that are curious about how to get better.
tl;dr: Post vids. Get reactions from said vids. Keep it civil grammatically correct, and constructive or else. Thanks.
Garret Ironshield:
I'll go first to start us off:
Just a few duels between me and a few Chapter-mates.
The video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsUPtCXHaG0&feature=feedu
The subject is wearing the Maroon "83" shirt, brown shorts. Wield a blue-colored sword and a green shield.
4:26 - 6:42 (Garret v. Sporks) [SnB v. SnB]
9:01 - 10:25 (Garret v. Nelson) [SnB v. Single Blue]
16:01 - 17:53 (Garret v. Vakif Neva) [SnB v. SnB]
17:57 - 18:36 (Garret v. Timur) [SnB v. Snb]
20:09 - 21:14 (Garret v. Toprak) [SnB v. Ball 'n' Wall]
Yeah, I did a lot of dueling that day.
Things I see already: Right leg is exposed due to stance. AKA, it repeatedly got hit because the opponent would shoot for my left leg and I would swing back my left leg. But standing right foot forward, the sword traveled along its path into the inside of my other leg. Extreme soreness was a great reminder.
Criticism appreciated.
Varadin:
Im writing these as i see them
your guard is too high, multiple times vs spork he goes for a darkside and you only barely catch it with your shield. Sword block that ****, punch him with your shield and ass wrap him.
Stop putting both knees down. You put both knees down and both are then a target, keep your live leg up and behind you, if you get checked, kicked drop it down while you roll.
You are leaning forward a lot here, your weight is on your front leg alot, so even when you move the back leg the front is still planted and getting hit.
vs nelson.
Its hard to guage if you are going easy on him, it seems like you are because he looks newer.
vs Vakif neva(guy in stupid helmet?)
your range control is terrible, he just walks up and takes a swing at your leg, You are in his range the whole time you are back peddeling. Either Get in and take a shot or GTFO. You are faster control the pace of the fight.
You fail to manipulate his center line at all, you throw a wrap to his shield side but dont take a step towards it, you step forward, throw the wrap, and get your leg taken. Take a step to the right and be out of his shot or at least take any of the ass out of it.
VS Timur(other guy in stupid helmet?)
Pause at 18:06. Look at your weight distripution You are all on your front leg, He is about 50/50. You are leaning forward, he is straight up. you are in his range at this point, you are not close. That body lean plays a HUGE part in it.
back to other stupid helmet.
throw to the go-ram body sword side.
VS Toprak
20:55 throw that as a flat wrap (see arrakis flat wrap video) and you can PUNISH his shoulder. Looks like you catch a bit of shield thus taking a lot out of it. Nice chop on his arm afterwards though.
Range him some, he over extends on EVERY shot he throws. Also check his chain length... specially on the black flail.
Overall,
You hunch, and put to much weight forward, it costs you your legs a LOT.
Your guard is too high, try lowering it down towards your belly button, you do this a bit but not to any consitancy.
Work the center line, almost all your attacks are made with you on the center line and swinging off it. Step sideways not forwards. Once you have that down, start half steping one way, changing direction and throwing them with a full body feint.
You seem like you have a good starting point for building on. You seem to do pretty well in your own area. This is where it gets hard to progress because you need to push to go farther. Train single blue, do pell work. Get your center line work down. Get that down and youll start playing with the big boys. This is no means meant to be dickish, You are on the right track, asking for critique takes a lot of guts and its a HUGE step in getting better.
djemps:
Here's my only advice...
Don't do THIS, THIS or THIS.
Zandakar Three-Bows:
The magic switch that you keep doing is really annoying me, but that's all I see from my standpoint. Try to do less magic sword-goes-into-other-hand-switches.
