So I was looking for youth activities for our church and one of the options was Ice skating. I have you to know Stonebriar (Frisco tx) will allow you to rent out the ice rink for like 275 an hour. So who said we couldn't have dag on ice...Calean...what do you think...our BIG event could be in the mall on ice!

Ok...that was really just a random thought but I wanted to post it.

What do the rest of the Daghorhirim think?

sounds unique, but potentially dangerous. ice is really unforgiving in my experience. however, it would be really fun to see people sliding around from spear and red shots.

That's not entirely true Blachawk. It just happens to take it's shots at the worst possible time. Take for instance, retrieving a javelin from the middle of a frozen pond. (... not that i've ever had to attempt such a thing... though i've heard stories.)

well...they did say that you could use tennis shoes...Actually I am quite familiar with the unforgiveness of ice...being frozen in a home with no electricity and water for over a week CORRECTION MOBIL HOME...Well other than that...the whole part about it hurts when you fall on it and even more when your are a part of it. I know the consequences, but it is a little different when you are on an ice rink than a frozen lake/pond (your choice)

Morgrim: We actually have a higher respect for ice than other people 'cuz we see so little of it and whenever we do see it, bad things happen...always.

To all: Have any of y'all ever played broomball? Basically hockey with broom like things and in tennis shoes. Played it once and based off that experience alone, I think that Dag on ice might be able to work. Before any of y'all try it though, I would just like to go on record saying I expect bad things to happen (see above attachment).

My father, some of his friends, and myself took a week-long trip to Northern Michigan for some dirt bike riding. (Roughly Wolverine if anybody from Militia cares)
Daryl rode ahead, and when he came to a field along the trail he circled waaay out to the left and waited for the rest of us to catch up. His intention was to startle us by doing a drive-by but when he went to take off, he popped a wheelie and took a branch through both cheeks (face!) on the way down. Bob had to go pull it out.

I think a fight on a skating rink would be doable...if it were not for the fact of the cost to rent the rink for JUST AN HOUR!

But to do it at a mall...that is pretty good publicity...do a pass the hat and you could get not only some money but some interest in the game.

You should do all your fights in an ice rink Blackhawk. That way when you get bruised and broken, you can just lie down and -BAM- instant ice pack.

But now I'm thinking about the battle on the ice from Alexander Nevsky, and the hilarious scene in The Four Musketeers when D'Artagnan (soon joined by his friends) fought Rocheforte and several Cardinal's guards on a frozen pond.

As Gene Wilder put it: "It. Could. WORK!"

Although I'd strongly recommend elbow and knee pads, gloves, and no missile weapons or grappling.

THere is no need to be afraid of me. THat was one of the more random thoughts of yesterday. I would be afraid of this broomball that Berin was talking of...Poking an eye out! I would rather go to Rag than play broom ball! (which I can't go to rag...so...)

I played hockey for 13 years, I would own all of you.

But make sure we all wear hockey gloves. My team was playing football on the ice once and our captain fell and got his pinky finger skated over and chopped off.

We don't need that.

I think I agree with you. Never had a finger amputated by hockey skates, myself, but it doesn't sound like a fun thing.

Besides, the rink manager would probably get all bent out of shape about blood on the ice. Might charge extra for a cleanup fee or something...

A number of years ago, one of the splinter groups I was associated held an event in the park after an ice storm. All the surfaces were slick. There were only about 7-10 people and every last one of them got hurt. For some reason I missed the battle that day. So, Dagorhir on ice is a really bad idea.

I realize I'm not really "in" on this discussion, but it seems like the makings of a dangerous idea.

If tennis shoes, etc. are used, then the possibility for falling, sliding, twisting various joints, falling on unyeilding terrain, and scraping exposed body parts is significantly higher than in normal Dagorhir. If nothing else, I'd think wearing a helmet would be something to really look into.

If ice skates are used, then we're talking about a group of fighters running at each other on a slick surface, with blades attached to their feet. Grappling alone would be a concern, but what if someone unexpectedly falls and their feet connect with someone else?

Perhaps rollerblades (with full safety gear) might provide the unique fighting experience you're looking for, with a comparatively reduced chance of injury?

This was more the intent. I was having a random day yesterday so I thought I would add to it.

However, roller blades aren't bad too! I can see some wicked stunts and killing going on. IT COULD BE LIKE Jousting DAG STYLE...all javs...all skates all joust. First one down looses.

Of course the proper padding and such would be required...armor rules do not apply but we are not responsible for all concussions or worse if you decide to reveal the contents of your brain on cement (or ice) for all to see. (if you were not wearing proper safety gear.)
