Gates of Summer IX May 3rd-6th Holden, MO
« on: October 17, 2011, 06:17:53 pm »
Ladies and Gentlemen, Elves and Orcs, and everyone else!

I'm am pleased to announce the dates for our NINTH Gates of Summer hosted by Dominion of the Unconquered Sun.  May 3rd through the 6th 2012 at our usual site in Holden MO.

We're going to keep all of our fan favorites, but we're going to add Saturday night fighting with the same light tower we used at War this year (And possibly Thursday night as well if they deliver it on the same day again!).

Our website at www.unconsun.org will be updated with info and paypal registration soon.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Updates!

Pre-reg is going to be $15, and a $20 fee at the door. Since the webteam is working on moving the entire Dominion site to another host, pre-reg is not yet available, but I wanted to throw out there that it is being worked on and will - with all hope and intention - be available by next weekend. Anyone who lives in the area can of course pre-reg in person at a Sunday Dominion practice, and we'll have an envoy of folks going to Freeze Your Flanks Off in Lyonesse to offer the opportunity to pre-reg there too. We will be offering day passes, if folks can't camp for any reason. They'll be $10 for Saturday only.

Troll times will be as follows:
Thursday Noon - 8pm
Friday 9am-8pm
Saturday 9am-5pm

If you're going to be arriving late on Thursday, please find someone from security with an orange armband and we can direct you to Nights Watch camp where you can alternately sign in. If you arrive too early on Friday or Saturday morning, we won't be able to open up troll before 9, so make some friends in line and hang out. :P

Speaking of security (courtesy patrol to some of you), I'm heading that up this year and I'm looking for volunteers! PM me (Krystal) and I can get you a schedule of timeslots so I can get people signed up. There will be a security meeting on Thursday before the first shifts start so we can go over some things, procedures and whatnot, and you'll be compensated in food for your time (hint hint)

Night battles are going to be making a comeback with the big lights we had last time, so Friday is a definite go - and if they're delivered early enough we might even do some night fighting on Thursday.

Tournaments! Right now, Shatterhaze is working on the tournament layout and I'm not 100% sure on when these are scheduled to take place; but they include
Spear
Florentine
Single Blue
Sword and Board
Four Horsemen

and outside of the Byzantium lead tournaments, there will also be a weekend long Assassins tournament hosted by Artemis of Dominion. If I can wrangle him to a keyboard, I'll see if I can't get any details posted on that here soon.

A courtesy reminder about a few rules updates. Garb rules are in effect (herp derp - of course. This is a Dagorhir function people!) and while the new rules regarding blues and such have not yet "officially" taken effect, we will not be failing any weapons that don't meet the old standards, but meet the new ones instead. If you need a refresher on the garb rules, check the MoA (http://www.dagorhir.com/dagorhir/Rules.htm) or PM me with specifics and we can talk from there.

Weapons check will be similar to the past several years, where melee checked on Friday will not need to be re-checked on Saturday, and flight will need to be re-checked every day. Anything melee that was not checked Friday, or did not pass, will need to go through weapons check again on Saturday.

The party on Saturday is likely (read: 99.9999%) going to include a cover charge to handle the expenses. Expect to bring about $2.00 to get into the party and go to town. A whole lot cheaper than goin' to the bar folks!

I also have a list of vendors who will be coming to the event, and if you're interested in vending at Gates of Summer - contact either me or Fafnir and we can put you in contact with the head of the merchants for Gates.

(tentative yes) Sable Manticore - With their usual tow of leather goods

(tentative yes)The Thrifty Gypsy and Church of Cloth - Garb items

Madussa's Layers - Cloaks, Tunics, Tabbards, Gowns, Belt Pouches, Belts, etc.

Pins & Needles - Knitted goods (hats, gloves, scarves, shawls), Hair Falls (back by popular demand), Garb by Tryn, and a mini C-Store with personal hygiene products, lighters, condoms, and Firestarter bricks

Chrystabelle's Treasures - Feastware, Garb, Jewelry, and "odds & ends"

Krystal's Kitchen - feastware, chilli, snacks, and drinks

Iron wolves trading post - armor, feastware, weapons, and weapon repair

3BQ - Beef Brisket Sandwich or Pulled Pork Sandwich: 3.50
Combo Sandwich (both meats): 4.50
Burnt Ends Sandwich: 4.00 (limited quantity, may contain pork)
Gluten Free 'Bowl-B-Q' : 3.00 (or 4.00 for combo)
Turkey Legs ? (no price on the meat yet, still ironing out details on that.)
Monster : 2.00
Gatorade : 1.25-1.50(not sure which yet, haven't priced cases yet)
Sauce : 3.00 pint / 5.00 quart Chipotle, Original, and possibly a new Habanero recipe.

Dyp will be selling henna supplies and hosting a class

Sarah Michelle Price will also be providing babysitting services for the parents that bring the kiddos out for the day. She'll have coloring books and games. She isn't asking a price per kids, but donations would be a really nice gesture.

No clean up dates have been announced yet as we're still ironing out the details with the land owners.

I think it's important that I mention there will be a memorial service held for Anna Stewart. The time hasn't been decided yet, but for anyone who's attended one of our events, Anna is the wife of Earl - the man who's been kind enough to let us host every single Gates of Summer and War of the Iron Fist on his property. She will be buried on the property, so we want to make sure everyone is aware of this so there's no unintentional disrespecting going on with the burial site. Right now I have no idea where it's located, or if it's marked in any special way.. but we're likely holding the memorial at that location so we can appropriately mark it off.

Hey Fafnir, who would I need to talk to about wanting to do Head Heralding for field fighting? I mentioned to alot of Dominion/Midwest people that I would really like to playtest some of my Rag ideas at Gates, and alot of them seemed interested. So... who do I need to discuss this with? aka Who's the autocrat this time?

Ah, interesting: for the first time ever, this event is after the end of my school semester, meaning Ilsa and I will be able to take the time off to drive out to it. We can't commit to being there this far in advance, but the odds are looking better than ever before. I'd love to meet all the midwest folks who can't make the drive to Ragnarok; hopefully this will be my chance!

From a headbutt. I specified that. From a headbutt.

I have been stabbed, cut, gouged, and shot many times.

I believe any posted times are roll-overs from the last event, and updated ones haven't been established by individual coordinators yet, but I could be mistaken.

And Alric, you should totally come to this event.

Everyone should listen to Olos, he's a smart fellow.  ;)

Fafnir, you should totally bring a bunch of beer to Gates of Summer for me.

If I'm there Olos, I'll bring you a six pack.  Once I know for certain I have the time off I'll find out what kind you want ;)

This offer also extends to Alric for purposes of wanton bribery.

I'll add a bottle of cordial [any flavor!] if they come xD

Also means I'd have to sneak out sometime between studying for my finals - because if Alric and Ilsa are going to go then I HAVE to show up! Even if just for a teeny bit.

Will Bardic be a competition again, or just a Bardic Circle like at War?

Think about this...The Scottish Highlanders were a very poor people, no armor to speak of, only the most basic of weapons, and still the English, whom had one of the most powerful armies of the time, considered them to be a huge threat!  Hmmmmm

Not sure yet. I sure don't have the money to put into any prizes, but if some happen to get donated, I'd be all right with it being a competition. We can get judges and things, but it hasn't grown big enough yet to warrant a lot of hubaloo. We're going to be holding it in the field by the barn this time, instead of down by the party, so it'll be a more attentive crowd around. :)

Who managed to snag online classes for next semester, so she can take her finals at her leisure BEFORE the event starts?

<-- This woman!

So now I'm going, and I'll be vending! :D Very excited for that fact too. I'll need to do some printing of flyers and proper feastware care instructions.. and now adding to a list of things I need to do/want to accomplish before the event. I had a mile-long list of stuff last event that didn't happen. If I start NOW... I might be on to something  :D

Bump.  I hope everyone is planning on putting in for their vacation time for this event soon.

Thankfully my work schedule is set a year in advance so I know I'll have this weekend off.  Here's hoping I see all you out there :)

-cleverly disguised bump-

I'm taking cordial flavor requests right now :D Flavors need to start processing by late January - early February, so I need to start getting stuff together here soon.

Alric! The offer still stands :D Bottle to you and your lovely wife if you come out ^.^

Updated - 2/11/12 with new vendor information

More news everybody!

* A possible polearm tournament

and outside of the Byzantium lead tournaments, there will also be a weekend long Assassins tournament hosted by Artemis of Dominion.

Chain N Links - mail roses, should have 1 or 2 chain mail shirts, & co-oping small with a friend (so more info later)

Ace Crafts - candles, bath fizzies, laundry soap (eco-friendly for use on-site), crochet gloves, jewelery, scarfs, shawls....and maybe sodas, water bottles, and crocheted bottle holders

The head heralds for this event are Sir Kultprit and Grumio. You would have to run it by them. If you need me to get ahold of them for you just let me know and ill get you guys in contact.

There is not a schedual for Gates that is set yet but it is something i want to work diligently on with the heads for this event. I will post it as soon as possible and i also plan on making it avalible at Troll so people actually know whats going on and when.

Im usually not on here but since i am event coordinator this event ill start checking these boards more often. The BEST way to get ahold of me is the book of faces. My real name is Erika Carrington if you need to find me on there.

Here is a list of the heads this event:

Tournaments: Shatterhaze and Squire Artemis
Weapons Check: Squire Tulkus and Page Lucifer
Courtesy Patrol: Krystal and Bouddica
Battles: Sir Kultprit and Grumio
Head Herald: Sir Kultprit
Clean Up: Squire Hippy, Page Devlin and Squire Nox
Troll: Squire Hippy
Garb Head Herald: Squire Artemis

Ah, interesting: for the first time ever, this event is after the end of my school semester, meaning Ilsa and I will be able to take the time off to drive out to it. We can't commit to being there this far in advance, but the odds are looking better than ever before. I'd love to meet all the midwest folks who can't make the drive to Ragnarok; hopefully this will be my chance!

Do I smell a Florida carpool ? ? ?
