Where was this article Orrin? Shotguns seem a really unlikely choice for shooting big game....
Just real quick for those of you who do not hunt, I'm not reading very carefully btw...
In most counties in MD here we have to hunt with shotguns because the giant slugs out of them do not travel as far as rifle rounds which can go over a mile without difficulty. I use 1.25 oz slugs that leave the muzzle at 1454 fps and deliver a MASSIVE amount of energy (mass x acceleration). They are THE perfect thing at close range (mine is zeroed at 100 yds) to take down damn near ANY animal. And at very close range (< 30 yds), buckshot is perfect for taking down anything smaller than a cow.
My shotgun:

-Remington 870 Express 3" chamber
-fully rifled Mossberg barrel made for the 870
-Simmons 3x9 40mm scope
-ammo is Lightfield Commander Hybrid EXP Sabot Slugs
It groups 3" at 100 yds and makes gigantic holes in deer.
