Want to throw in some tips in addition to blackhawk's in regards to flying.

Southwest is your friend: If you have this luxury, or Jetblue, do it. You can save the cost of having to pay for checked bags. Also you can often take boards as one of your bags. I just take my cover off mine and let it fly as is.

....my two cents worth....WEAR YOUR ARMOR!!! you made it (or paid good money for it) it works...it looks good and enhances ERRRbodys medieval experience....not to mention may save you a few choice bruises and charlie horses...

..and keep in mind the SCA will be "taking the field" a month and a half deeper into summer than we do late July early August (hottest time of the year)...and they fight in Plate Kits...most with heavy gambeson and all with a full helm made of 14 gauge steel or heavier....

Most SCA heavies are ten (even 20) years older than the average foam fighter...and lots of them carry two or more "kits" to the Serengeti in a single day....one for mass melee...one for tourney....and don't get me started on how much crap water bearers and the Royals drag up to the battle field with them....

So before you complain about how heavy your kit is....just think of the old timers like me!!

HUZZAH!!!
