Throwing axes . . . .
« on: February 28, 2012, 07:44:27 am »
How come we can't have a type of axe that can be thrown?

Balance issues mostly, as far as I know.. Einherjar had [has?] rules for throwing axes, though I haven't seen any in quite some time...

Edit: strike that; the real reason they died out is probably more because throwing axes were basically an easily concealed, but ****ty javelin as far as 'game balance' went.

Technically, you can. It just has to be made completely of foam and have a cloth cover. AKA a rock. You can make a rock look like anything if you want to put the effort into it.

Einherjar actually had/has a legit throwing axe rule. It did blue damage to whatever damage area that it hit. I don't honestly know if the rule is still around because as Ravus said; there haven't been any out for over a year or two now.

It was silly, but it kind of put something else into the game that was a fun twist.

Think we, Einherjar, still has them.  Nobody uses them though.  Wonder why.

These will be introduced to Teutoburg Forest this year. A most awesome place indeed.

Throwing axes are fine, but they need to be constructed like a rock.
I know a couple Corvalinites have throwing axes.  The Templar Knights have bible rocks.  I think Mordor has a couple skulls or shrunken heads that are rocks as well.  I think the key thing is no core.

If it's done right, it should.

All my "rocks" are blue foam w/ a nylon cover ( and a more realistic looking rock you'd be hard-pressed to find) though I wouldn't be comfortable tossing around my "Aratari Handbooks" w/out the layer of cushion foam covering it.

Falgor Looks Like the Einherjar have to push people to bring them out on the field. The ravens will have to bring theirs out. Sounds like fun

I'd really like to see one. Every throwing ax rock I made the more I tried to stabilize the all foam handle with harder foam, the heavier it would get. The handle would either be too flimsy or if it wasn't the rock would be too heavy once I got the handle to work.

Please pics!
