catching a club
Odran:
To phrase it another way: you are allowed to grab shafts. You can't grab "blades" or points. Blades include not only all striking surfaces, but the flats of swords and the backs of single-edged weapons. Additionally, the "point" of the spear includes the whole spearhead (the poofy area), not just the tip.
Additionally, if you grab a blue blade with an armored hand, you still loose the arm, rather than merely taking 1 hit to your arm armor. Hits to a armored off-weapon hand are a gray area.

While the rules only specify a penalty for grabbing a blade with your hand, almost everyone who accidentally grabs a blade under their arm like that will take death for it. I wouldn't be surprised if you got some funny looks from people for doing what you describe, or even if you had a herald talk to you. It's a fuzzy area in the rules as written, but as played grabbing a blade under your arm (regardless of which way the striking surface is pointing) is a no.
And as others have said, the same logic applies to clubs.

In game, we have only categories for weapons signified by color. So trapping a blue weapon is out, cause it would open the door to such actions on bladed weapons as well. Also, trapping weapons could damage the weapons. So the reason you cant is strait up Playability. Don't feel bad though, realism dictates the opposite.
Peace!
<<<<im sorry, im sure the answer is somewhere in their..but im a little grammatically challenged (stupied), so i'm having a hard time trying to understand what you wrote. can he legally trap the club between his side and arm with out dieing/losing a limb or not?
<<<<For a while I would simply answer such questions with a quick yes/no. It might be time to go back to that, yes?

<<<<No don't! I personally like a good, thorough explanation. Other people got it..I think. I'm just not good with reading, overall
Alric:
Blackhawk was saying that, while it might be realistic to be able to catch a club under your arm without taking damage, it would make game play more complicated since both clubs and swords are blue weapons, and the same rules have to apply to both. Also, grabbing weapons under your arm like that might damage them, which is unsafe.
