This started two year ago when Jari beat me to bringing it up at War Council. I had been experiencing people who didn't know about edging, weren't using it, were getting angry when it happened to them, and were not building or checking gear for it. I drafted a proposal, a bunch of people argued it out, and as far as I could tell there was support and liking behind the idea. Well at least as much as anything else drafted online.

Limiting it is not the only way to get it passed, and truly its a little bit of personal desire, but alot of it is listening to people I've talked to about this proposal and them agreeing that the limit is good.

You mean people speculating about the danger of something they have no relevant experience with can be lead to agree that a limit on some things that they probably wouldn't do is a good idea???

You should write a research paper on this new and exciting phenomenon.

Also shield edging doesn't need any new rules or any anything else.

Pretty much what Arrakis said. It's been talked about, speculated about and what not, but there hasn't been any actual evidence to support the necessity of limiting shield edging, has there? If we're going off of what MIGHT hurt someone, then we should ban tons of **** and become Amt. However, we're not, so let's not set a precedent for limiting actions that may only potentially be dangerous and have yet to be proven so in any way.

The only thing I have against requiring shields to pass as blue is that it would lead to a lot more subjective passing than already is. I do know that PD makes shields a bit harder, and that itself would lend to more failed PD shields, a step I believe to be backward, not forward. Right now all a checker's gotta check for is core, but put in hit test calibration, and suddenly my shield fails and passes from a dozen checkers each with a subjective hit calibration and pain tolerance.

I was already getting enough gruff in Rag's check line when I brought my skyrim pd shield up to check. They were passing it around admiring it but also lamenting on how stiff the decorations were; despite them being perfectly safe and built within the rules, some pansy checker was going on about how it was too stiff. Probably the same guy double overhand stabbing people to check for greens

Yes, down this way lies madness, surely we would not want to ban things like metal on the elbows, knees, and hands when we still allow hard plastic and hardened leather on them.

All shields at every event I have ever been to have been checked on their edges, all the way around, with shield edging in mind. Some always fail.
It has always been this way. We have ALWAYS hit each other HARD with shield edges. I twas one of the things that brought me to Dag.
I understand that SOME realms do not think it's safe and THOSE realms do not allow it and THOSE realms do not check edges and THOSE realms have problems with safety in this area. I see this as THEIR PROBLEM created by their lack of enforcing national rules and promoting fighting in the national style.
We do not need any extra shield edging rules. They have always worked for the people who use them. They only seem to be scary for the people who do not use them.
