P90X
Alain Jeune:
Man, its totally worth it. You need to take it at your own steam. Only do what you are comfortable with, but PUSH yourself. You pretty much dictate the improvement you'll see. I'd say start with the lean program if you have any weight to lose. Its a slightly less strenuous way of introducing you into the fitness lifestyle.
As for diet; eat correctly- vegetables come first, then fruits, then your meats and w/e. Just stop deserts. You'll love yourself for it after a while. Of course you can have the occasional sweet, but cutting out junk food is an easy way to set you on the right course.
Maybe we should use this thread to keep up with those of us in the program. Right now I'm on month 2 of the lean program. I'm a born lean kind of guy, but most of the guys I do it with are heavy, and I'm not indisposed to gaining leaner muscle build. Its good for my look.
Silk:
You lie. I regret every desert I don't eat... :( But I'm a recovering sugarholic.
Kelmain:
I am not an aerobics or workout DVD kind of guy, but I do highly recommend the P90X discs. I have been working out regularly and consistently for 30 years and don’t need “a pre-made plan”, but they are a good foundation if you are looking for that. I use them once or twice a week when I need a decent workout and don’t have the time or motivation to customize one. The workouts are nicely scalable. If you are even remotely athletic, you will be able to get through the workouts in a fashion that will bring positive benefits. If you are in really good shape, you will still get a great deal of benefit out of them. That is their strength in my opinion. They are challenging, but they can be done with greater or lesser intensity so that you will never outpace them. They also cover a great variety of workout types. If I miss a day of lifting at the gym, there is a P90X workout that will be a good in home substitute for the muscle groups I planned to hit. If I want some cardio and can’t get out for a run, the plyometrics is a decent alternative. Heck, my wife and I even do the Yoga X every now and then when we get in from a long day at work.
This all applies only to the original series of discs which is all I’ve tried out. I’d recommend buying them on ebay to save a few bucks. I would not recommend paying for their food, drinks, bands, etc. That stuff is all the same as you can get anywhere else if you want those things.
Sven Kolfinsson:
I play in an Ultimate Frisbee league over the summer and the captain for our team is 54 years old, and the only reason he can still keep up (and sometimes surpass) with all the college kids who play with us is because of P90X Yoga. I'm hoping to start that program as well this summer.
Syre Jari Kafghan the Dark Knight:
The Yoga and stretch x are amazing. I honestly can't say enough good things about this program.
