Wrap Pants!

Silk:
The front and back are not attached to each other except at the groin. You basically only have two pieces (and then ties) right and left. So you cut the U out, sew it together then hold the front and back up with ties. The groin can be cut low, or cut high. It depends on how deep you cut that U.

Try this: before sewing the pieces together, before even cutting them, you have two identical rectangles of fabric. Take a piece of chalk and mark the top left corner of both pieces "FRONT" and the top right corner of both pieces "back". Then you trace your U and cut it, then sew it. Does that make any more sense?

Garkoth:
So, the opening of the U will become the bottom of the pants? In addition to that, I'm going to have two pieces of fabric with this U cut into them. Right?

Malpan:
No. the bottom of the U will be the crotch of the pants. Do it in miniature with scrap fabric first, that's what I did with my first pair of wrap pants. It's 3d spacial topography, not the easiest thing to do in your head without a reference.

Silk:
To be honest, it boggled me for a while too.

Totally did this with a couple scraps of fabric and my wife's smurf doll. The smurf has some stylish pants and now I understand the process :)
