This is where Aratari dumps it's money on feast, your $10 gets you real food made by a real BBQ contest winner and enough leftovers to eat for a month. Last year was chicken, brisket, pulled pork, and a vegetarian delight including the slaughter of a potato salad that put us meat eaters in a food coma.

HEADS UP PEOPLE NEW TO THE SITE
As you come down Croom Airport Road, there will be a sign that says that the park entrance is in 500ft. ignore this sign, it is sending you to the park office. stay on croom airport and keep on down the road. OUR entrance will be on the right, in about a mile after that sign.

Got the email below today from Terry Pratchett's Publicity Manager.

I plan to film the video clip at Mayhem on Saturday, May 19.

The Guard is working on the details of the (very short) clip...but we'd like it to end with the camera pulling back to show as many Dagorhir as want to be in the shot, all singing "Smile, boys, that's the style!" - featuring lots of shields and unit banners.

Sir Terry Pratchett has sold more than 75 million books worldwide, most of them high fantasy (you know, aimed at the kind of people who would play Dagorhir).  The Guard already placed "Dagorhir Lane" on the new map of Anhk-Morpork; here's another chance to get Dagorhir's face linked to something cool and broadcast to the World.

PS: Here's a link to Amazon's write-up on "The Long Earth":

--------------------

Hi David,

We were all so impressed with your video clip for the Ankh-Morpork Map competition that we’d like to ask you and the Guards a favour…

For The Long Earth, the new Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter book that we’re publishing on the 21st June, we’re creating a video clip of the first chapter. We’ve split the chapter up into lines and these lines have been given to famous faces, people involved with the Discworld and many more people besides. It’s an extract if you like and all the videos we get in will be spliced together to form a continuous narrative.

There’s a line in there that requires a little more oomph. I was wondering if I could tempt you and ‘the freaking awesome guards’ to film it for me? It would need to be on a smartphone, landscape, but apart from that can be in any way that you choose.

The line from the book is from a very famous song and probably deserves to be sung. It is the following:

‘“Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile, while you’ve got a Lucifer to light your fag, smile boys, that’s the style...”’

Does this sound like something you might like to do? You’d be on the video with Terry and Rob and countless more besides. Please let me know if you’d like to take part as if you don’t want to I’ll need to find someone else to do it.

Thank you

Lynsey

Hey guys!
I've only been to one event (thanksgiving battle about a year and a half ago) and it's taken me 18 months to convince my friends to try this out. Just wondering what kind of turnout to expect at the campout events. We'll be there regardless, no worries, you guys will have a few extra noobies to drop the hammer on.  Oh yea, also, a few tips for weapon check would be helpful really helpful. (seeing as we failed horribly last year with our giant duct tape buster swords)

Sheryaar,

Do a little research on the boards.

Lots of really awesome tutorial for making nice gear that will pass.

Or you can bring 25$ to Space Knight camp and I'll sell you a nice resistance build blue sword. Bring another 50$ and I have a shield to sell you.

They're calling for BOOTYFUL weather.  I'd expect at least 150, maybe 200 at MayHem.

See you there!  Remember to bring your unit banners if you want them featured in the Terry Pratchett video!

Thanks for the good times guys, everyone there was really helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The event was a blast, it was a shame we had to dip out in a hurry before we got to sample the feast. Special thanks to Gtg and Wolfpack for letting us roll with them in battle.

(Reprinted from another thread...but I think it bears reprinting)

So the video reading of Chapter One of "The Long Earth" was released during Ragnarok.

Since then, I completely forgot to post a follow-up.  Oops.  Haven't had a spare moment. Had weddings to plan and perform and whiskey to drink.  Been on the road.  And Guilder to frame for it.

View the reading here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duU3CbCVUHA.

For all the Dagorhir people who participated in the filming, THANKS!  You're now in a video with people including Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten from "Red Dwarf")!

Of course I'm biased...but:

1. I think the two Dagorhir segments are the most entertaining ones in the clip; and
2. Our segments total more screen-time than anybody else got.
