Well, I made the tudor hats, but I decided to sell them on Etsy instead, even though nobody is buying them yet.  I still have lots and lots and lots of rocks.

I'm packing up my trading box(es?) now, and thought folks might like an idea of what I'll have available.

To the BTP, I'm bringing:

Some fur, a voodoo doll kit, a variety of drinking vessels, some little children's toys, shells, stones, a wooden creche, a sake bottle and cup, a candle holder, a few nerdy T-shirts, some goofy dragon statuettes, two large wool blankets, and jewelery.

To the souk at the Middle Eastern tent, I'm bringing:

Some leather-wrapped glass bottles, a beautiful wooden mirror, two marble spheres, a metal swan, a reversable tooled leather messenger bag, a ginko leaf patterned lantern, a choli top, some lovely peasant tops, a pretty address book, and the nicest jewelry (including a gypsum scarab necklace).

More may be added as I find stuff.

I'm hoping to get my box/bags of stuff finalized for the trading post tonight :D I don't have a lot more time left to get it all put together >.<

I know I have right beside me, a light brown/tan rabbit fur, a cute vest, a braided rope belt, a pair of dark blue pants, and a pair of non-armor grade bracers.

I'm going to go through my various fabric bins for scrap fabrics, trims, and bring a canister full of buttons/gems/beads/chain links/etc

I might even see if I have time in the evenings to knit a couple neck cowls to trade too.

I might be willing to trade my tunic, cowl, and sash I made for the $20 garb contest at Rag, if not, then I might put it up on Etsy when Rag is over.

I have a bundle of weapons cores, some two footers and some three footers. They're a mixture of 1/4"x1/2" fiberglass, 3/8" square, and 1/2" square. I also have a couple solid fiberglass rods and maybe half a dozen pieces of kitespar. Probably some leather stuff too. I'll bring a buncha crap..

I'll be bringing along some 16ga 3/16 titanium rings--maybe a quarter pound. A blue buffalo hide, right around 58sq ft. and maybe an embroidered leather belt or two. :)

Probably not going to bring much since I'm riding with a friend instead of bringing my own ride down, so no shield cores for sure, but I may have some smaller knick-nacks and such. Sorry guys.

Hey now Fel, you get a pass because I started Dag in Buffalo with Tartarus Invictus, but flails aren't that terrible. Also, I seem to remember you tumbling about a flail you were currently constructing.  :P

Also! For the buffalo hide, here is a picture of it in its current glory.

I'm currently on the lookout for a handful of items. Feasting gear is always nice, straight razor shaving stuff, unique period-looking belt buckles, knee/leg armor that'll fit my little bird legs, tips on fighting better single blue, foam weapons of any sort. There's more, but nothing that I can think of right at this juncture. If you have something specific, shoot me a message. :)

It'll be somewhere near Merchant's Row.

all week.  it starts when someone shows up at the spot with their stuff and ends when the last person wanders away.  usually goes from 10ish till dinner time with people popping in and out all day.

I might have a linen tunic or two for a medium-sized lady. Really bad linen tunics. Like 'I paid zero attention to grainline while cutting this out 'cause I desperately needed garb last Rag, and it shows' tunics. But still. Garb!

if you're actually going to shave with it, i'd think buying new would be better.  i bought my ex one.  go to the barber supply store in Pittsburgh on Smallman Street in the Strip District.  i asked in a barber shop that actually uses straight razors (most do not and using them requires extra certification) and they sent me there.

you'll pay about $100 total, $70-$80 for a simple straight razor, the rest for the strop and sharpening stone if you need them and the shaving cream.  you want to use special shaving cream rather stuff in the can, the stuff you can get in grocery stores will actually damage your blade.

I'll have a few bits of garb (skirts, mainly), some hookah tobacco, a couple of fabric pouches, glass beads, a couple steaks, and a black felt hat.  Now I just need to make it *up* to the BTP this year.

Currently I'm shaving with a pair of Dovo straights, the "Best Quality" and the Ebony. Moreso, I'm on the hunt for some honing stones, and a better strop. :) It was many many months of research before I picked my first one up, and I'll always remember how terrible the first shave was.

Always glad to see people that know what they are talking about with straight razor shaving though, I could talk about it for hours. :P

So...  I helped come up with this damn thing...  Paid some money for to have the canvas sewn...  Is it stil lwhat we talked about years ago?  All in character, no real money?  I have yet to ever even see it.  Stupid security.  I don't know what I may have to trade, but I'd like to at least see this thing once before I die.  lol

Paid some money for to have the canvas sewn...

what canvas?

Dom stays in character.  i want to get rid of things i don't want and get things i do want.  so some people stay in character, some do not.
no real money.  since it's not a vendor booth with all the tax id and insurance and everything no real money can change hands or you'll have to kick the offenders out :)

it's a very successful trading post for those interested in spending the time to wait for their dream item to show up.  it was a great idea, thanks for helping it come about!

Always glad to see people that know what they are talking about with straight razor shaving though, I could talk about it for hours. :P

i don't actually know what i'm talking about, like i assume those names you said are kinds of razors, but they mean nothing to me.  i only know how to get someone started.  but i already told you the store to look up if you want a honing stone specifically for your razors -i dunno if there's anything special about them as opposed to honing stones for a typical knife.
much to my disappointment, the ex didn't actually get into it.  after a week of trying he figured out the angle to hold the blade at so as to shave hair rather than just exfoliating all of his dead cheek skin, but he decided it was too much effort, took too much time, and he didn't actually use it.  his cheeks were magically soft that week, though!

if you can start at the basics, i'd love to talk straight razors a bit.  i think they're neat.
i have another friend somewhat interested in them.  he'll be at Rag but i can't promise he'll make a point of talking about 'em.  got any forums or websites to recommend?

Paid some money for to have the canvas sewn...

what canvas?

The actual tarp did not make it up.  It was sitting in my camp all week (same problem as Thrush, very little time to get it to where it needed to be).  Next year, tho, we will have more time (hopefully) and space (definitely) to get it up the first day.

The one that Twinkle apparently sewed but we never got set up.  This whole thing was invented the year I was head of Security at what turned out to be the biggest Rag to date.  I was too busy to actually even find the thing, and Twinkle apparently never did anything wit the canvas tarp she made for it...  So I wont know what to look for, but I may bring a few real swords or something to trade.  If anyone has viking-y stuff, keep me in mind.

Yeah, I never had the time to set up the canvas tarp that first year.  The second year (first year at Cooper's) when Othro was kinda in charge, he set up the tarp as more of a blanket location for people to sit on in the grass.  From there, I kinda lost track of the tarp because I wasn't able to make it to the BTP that year.  I thought maybe it went home with Feri, but she says she doesn't have it.  Maybe it went home with Ladies of the Lace, but I didn't have contact info to talk to them about it.  Kinda irks me that I don't know where it is, too.  That thing took the better part of a week to sew up, and I thought I was going to break my sewing machine doing it.

Yeah, I remember it being used as something to sit on last year... I'll also check with Stuuj because he has the official BTP sign, but I haven't heard of where the tarp went at all.

Would anyone be interested in having their personal weapons made miniature onto keychains? I also have an entire armory of generic weapons and shields. I've sold these at a few events and people seem to like them. I can not sell at Rag but I can take orders and deliver them at rag. I will also be at the trading post from time to time. I make them as authentic as possible. Colored tape on pommels, yellow cover and opencell on javs, marine foam stabbing spears.

custom work (mostly my own equipment)

(generic armory)

Im new to sewing and rag, and i dont wanna bring stuff if they wont trade(im nervous bout the reception of the product just like any newb at a craft) im gettin okay at goodwill garb and I made a hooded cloak for my 6'1-2" father who wears a large mens tee like me and its just a lil tight. It's liner is made out of a snuggie and is earth-toned so it looks like wool until you get close, and the outside is a bedsheet. I was wondering if stuff like that would be interesting to people. I also can make more goodwill tunics and pants out of bed sheets just wondering what sizes i should go off of to make some trades. (if someone could give me size ideas). Also I have a few glass bottles i got root beer in at a feast of the hunters moon festival(french and indian war re-enactment festival thingy) that i have rope covers for like this, but it looks close to period.  url=http://www.instructables.com/image/FLVR2D7FY3KSYE8/Bottle-holder.jpg] I can also make a cover for a bottle cuz i only got 1 or two of my bottles to trade and one is an old wine bottle. Also im working on a rough macrame belt if that would maybe catch someone's fancy. I could also beg my dad to grab a bunch of grey computer foam if he can, cuz he is in IT. I also have a bunch of scrap-sized bits of closed cell foam in different shapes that computer parts were shipped in, one is the consistency of blue foam(maybe a touch softer)(this may be it but lengths about 1' and 3-5" deep and wide http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/549019595/pink_electronic_packing_foam.html ) and the other is significantly softer but not quite OC. I could also maybe make a lined hat out of the scrap liner(snuggie) and fabric....any takers? also any ideas that i may not think of to bbring to trade? i have geodes if that interests people and i can make a coif out of pop tabs.

to recap for easier reading:

  • snuggie and bedsheet cloaks
  • bedsheet tunics and pants of whatever size is suggested
  • bottles with covers or just bottle covers
  • grey pc foam
  • white pc foam
  • pink pc foam
  • geodes?
  • pop tab coif
  • any other ideas to bring

also i am making my goodwill cloak now and my dad had his where the hem had the outer fabric go over the liner, does it look good for a male's cloak to have the liner wrap around on the hem? and are sleeves dorky on cloaks? idw look super special

cases of wine. not enough to go around.

I've commented that my wine tastes like gasoline. many other people(including dominick above) say vastly othewise. maybe I am fussy. I am pretty sure I do not like drinking wine. I will admit that I have never tasted homemade wine as good as mine. might be the well water. or the fact that I could make it spring water with a bit of terraforming

has anyone tried rooting cuttings of the grandfather tree? seems a shame to want to gather bits of dead wood when you could promote the tree.

I found a shiruken I'm bringing now, and my husband has a little (read: TINY!) axe that's been crazy sharpened that I'm gonna bring too. There's also a pair of ankle weights that don't fit me that I'm gonna bring too.

Since I haven't made it to the BTP before, do we need to ID people if we barter any live steel? Or is that only a requirement if it's being -sold- that they have to be of a certain age?

Coming from a Parents perspective you might want to check with someone parents if they are are minors.  Part of Rag rules are that the parents are on site the whole time the minor is there... you never know how people will react.  Foam sword one thing.... real steel another.

Good call. How I'd react as a parent if my daughter brought an axe/sword/dagger back from a trading post, and how another parent might react are likely to be totally different.

I don't plan on having much, so I don't think it should be a huge issue. But a good plan to follow regardless. ^.^ Hell, I wish half the people I usually camp with got permission from their camp master before doing something crazy or bringing something into camp xD

I remember last year there were blue rag-tags used to denote people under 18 years old. If a similar theme is used this year it would make this easier.
