Since I haven't made it to the BTP before, do we need to ID people if we barter any live steel? Or is that only a requirement if it's being -sold- that they have to be of a certain age?

Coming from a Parents perspective you might want to check with someone parents if they are are minors.  Part of Rag rules are that the parents are on site the whole time the minor is there... you never know how people will react.  Foam sword one thing.... real steel another.

I remember last year there were blue rag-tags used to denote people under 18 years old. If a similar theme is used this year it would make this easier.

Red.  And yes, there will be something like that again this year.

If I have time, I may go through my barn for some more spare leather pieces.
Horse tack can be turned into sweet garb!

i've seen some amazing belly dance bras made of horse tack.  oh man!

i'm bringing a bunch of peasant blouses, a purple silk shirt someone could modify, some remnant fabric in purple and in green, a broken spiky belt that might look good on an orc's feast gear, some soaps friends had made for me over the years, and some other odds and ends.

I have a box full of Forgotten Realms books. Most of the collected works of R.A Salvatore.

I don't want to haul them if there is no interest.

Hey would anyone possibly be interested in a small buckler/strap shield(idk what to call it)? I may make a few and they are made out of kickboards. there is a strap for the arm and a strap for the hand, leaving the hand free to wield a red or other weapon. the shape is like a curved A which makes it about the size of your hand where the hand grip is and then it gets wider towards the elbow, and its about a foot long with some change.

No wood core = no Thrush want.  I do need a buckler, but I need at least 1/4" plywood in it for the other game I play...  Otherwise I'd give em a once over and see if I liked them.

I just remembered I have a bunch of deer bones I'm bringing too :D And I -might- just bring a bacon explosion to see what I can get for it.

Or I might eat it in camp with my boys.

Guess it depends on the offers  :D

I have some shorter leg bones. It was a scavenging job on the side of the road for Native American Lit xD so it's kinda hit and miss. I have a rough picture on Facebook from a while back when I picked them up, but it's hard to make a lot of it out.

For sure I know I have some ribs, several vertebrae, a scapula, and a few other random bones I can't quite identify.

Aaaand I've decided to feel generous ;) I'm making a bacon explosion for trading purposes, one for the Hafla, one for Security camp, and one for my unit. So find me at one of those places and I'll be sure to let folks partake.

Speak now for any allergens or whatnot, I stuffed the last one with spinach artichoke cream cheese, jalapeno white cheddar, and brought Shatterhaze to his ever-lovin' knees

I've got a spagenhelm with nose protector and chainmail drape along the back of the neck. Passes Armor Check. Slightly too big for my head though.

I've got 3-4 throwing axes (native american style) including one childs/womens sized axe. These are sharp and yes, I can show you how to properly throw them if you wish. They are not display pieces but functional tools/weapons. 18 y/o+ only.

I've got a sling (not a slingshot) if you want to launch rocks the old fashioned way.

I've got some nerdy stuff like LotR Risk, LotR Trivial Pursuit, a LotR tapestry, Deck of Shakespear quotes, and a Jesus action figure (all in good/mint condition).

Dag weapon repair materials (DAP, hockey tape, spare fabric, blue foam, open cell foam, etc.)

I'd be looking to pick-up:
A basic simple spagenhelm (or other helmet, even armor grade leather would be fine)
A dagorhir shield
Bandshoppe poles (maybe 2 as I've got the foam to make a spear and a glaive)
Armor grade bracers or greaves
Various garb/feastware
Old RPG books and miniatures (I'm a gamer.)

Clovis,

Please save that helm for me.  I own a metal Roman-style helmet which is slightly too small for my head - we could have a perfect trade.  I will find you at the BTP ASAP during the week.

Have not heard of any one wanting deer bones,  any that anyone would want other than the legs?  Does it matter front or back, top or bottom part of the leg?  Do they need to be prepared in any way?  Is the skull of any animal wanted? or bones of any other animal?  I understand the fur/leather but really no idea what you do with the bones.

I had a guy locally get the jaw bone from a deer from me a few months ago. He plans on putting it atop a makeshift spear for some character garb for the evenings.

You can easily use parts of the vertebrae to make bone buttons. I debated making some bone gaming dice but I'm not a very artsy person.. I'd just ruin 'em xD

I just remembered I have a bunch of deer bones I'm bringing too :D And I -might- just bring a bacon explosion to see what I can get for it.

If you have leg bones, I want some. Anything I should pack for a trade?

Have not heard of any one wanting deer bones,  any that anyone would want other than the legs?  Does it matter front or back, top or bottom part of the leg?  Do they need to be prepared in any way?  Is the skull of any animal wanted? or bones of any other animal?  I understand the fur/leather but really no idea what you do with the bones.

Big bones like femurs, jaw bones, and especially antlers would be of interest to me, as long as they don't stink (bleach is awesome).

So big bones and after removeing the meat, do I boil them, or leave then out for the beatles and ants, or let the meat rot off in the sun and then bleach, or do you just want found bones that have been out for a few seasons?  I live between small towns, lots of people here hunt.  Antlers they don't give up so easy, but nobody cares about the bones.  I feel pretty confident I can get many of the leg bones or back bones probally jaw bones.  On the other hand I have no clue what to do with them to make them good to send thru the mail or transport, and I would hate to gather a bunch of bones no one wanted.

How bout this, since Rag is this weekend:  Next hunting season, if you acquire bones, bury them for the ants/beetles/worms, then in early June, dig them up and clean them off, soak in bleach for a few hours, till clean looking/smelling.  It's actually not very labor intensive, just don't leave them in the bleach for too long, it eats them after a certain amount of time (I imagine 6-12 hours to be ok?).  Then, load up for the trading post next year!

I think I would have to keep them above ground to keep them from rotting and keep them from small and large animals, should not be a problem.  Basicly do nothing for half a year and then bleach.

From what I've looked up after putting a cow skull in a mixture of bleach and water and having it come out looking dry and more brittle, you're not supposed to put bones in bleach. Sure, it cleans them up, but it takes a lot of calcium off of them and while it'll still last at least 5 years, it won't last as long as it should.

If you just put the bones in a bucket of water and let nature dissolve the rest of anything that's on top of them you'll have a bone that looks better and will last longer. If you wanted it bleached white, leave it outside in the sun for about a week (bring it in if it's going to rain or if there's high amounts of dew).

the water/wine jar.

Have you every considered how pissed the servants at that wedding were? They'd been working this wedding for days, they are tired, and the guests act and smell like goats. The party is finally winding down when Jesus has them drag in these huge clay jars full of water (remember, there's no faucet) and then turns it into wine. All the guests are joyous, get cranked up again and to the servant's this isn't a never ending party...it's a never end shift at the waffle house serving drunks.

1. The greek word for wine (oinos) was used in that time (biblical and secular texts alike) to define both alcoholic fermented wine and non-alcoholic grape juice. Just because we use the word wine TODAY only to define alcoholic drink doesn't mean that's what they ment back then.

2. The Master of the Banquet, who like the others would have had his fill of drink, was still able to discern that this wine was better than what was previously served. Not the best evidence that it was an alcoholic party. Add to that Jesus teachings about drunkness and I think you've mis-characterized the party pretty badly.

3. Yeah, 6 pots each 2-3 furkins of water (9 gallons to a furkin) would have been heavy. I wouldn't have wanted to be one of those servants either. That said, if the wine had run out and the family shamed, a servant of the house might find themselves sold into slavery elsewhere. I guess I would have been happy about the outcome.

=)
