My Weapons
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:36:45 am »
Hey I just wanted some feedback on how my weapons look. Short blue, long blue, two hand blue and dagger. (acoustic guitar for reference)

Speed does not equal intense. Realistic, brutal, savage, simulated dark age combat is intense. You want speed, go run track.

Not bad for an early set. Next time, you should do your best to sew covers for them, and you should probably either blacken-in , or cover up that Nike logo on the one.

also: the  acoustic guitar is a bad item to use for a size reference, they come in a whole mess of sizes, scale lengths etc etc, you should just break out a measuring tape and give dimensions and stuff if you want to give an idea of scale #guitardork

For serious though: sew yourself some covers next time. it's super easy and will make your stuff look infinitely better with minimal effort.

Don't waste time with blue weapons. Make a red sword.

Yup, they look like weapons alright.

What Blackhawk means is that is very difficult, if not impossible, to tell the quality of a weapon from a covered picture. Also, most dag weapons look the same. I would suggest using a sewn cloth cover, or at least a plain black sock cover, for weapons. White socks, or socks with logos, look silly.

Don't waste time with blue weapons. Make a red sword.

Don't start out with a red weapon. I would recommend starting out sword and board, then going to spear, and then going to glaive if you want to become a red user.

I plan on building a spear eventually. These were just some weapons I built to practice fighting.

Hence the usage of </sarcasm> tags. Although to be fair, when I read the post, I thought it sounded a bit off.

"Looks" like the top of the handle on the nike sword just below the blade has no padding at all, and "looks" like because of the handle/blade proportions, has a small chance of hitting someone on that unpadded part, which "looks" like it would hurt like a mothe**ucker. Technically legal but it wouldn't be a bad idea to add something there.

The need real covers.  It's not like those won't pass, but sock weapons get the hairy eyeball during check because it's a safe assumption that with a cover like that, they're not very well-made.  And they stretch like hell, especially in the rain.

I don't understand this. You don't have to pad your handles.

Agreed - that handle is fine. 1/3 of the weapon is allowed to be completely unpadded.

What materials are you using? What's the weight and length and such?

I've been using Walmart camp pad and driveway markers from Home Depot. I haven't weighed them out yet but they're decently weighted. And the socks are just temps until i can learn how to sew. The pvc one is the big white one.

Weight is an important factor, you should find that out.

Where do they balance at? Do they have stabbies? If so what materials were used?

No stabbies. Not for these at least. I dont have a scale so I have no way to weigh them at the moment.

And the 2 larger ones balance a couple inches above the handle. The smallest balances right at the top of the handle

Take 'em to the nearest post office.  They've generally got an electronic scale or two for customer use.

What did you weight them with?
