Game of Thrones style cloak (tutorial)

(1/8) > >>

Tarburz the Drang:
Materials:
4 yards of thick wool (60")
a nice animal fur (at least 30"x24")
a belt large enough to wrap around your chest one and a half times.

1. cut the wool in half so you have two 60"x72" rectangles

2. sew the two pieces along the 72" lines so you have a new rectangle of 72"x120"

3. pin many pleats from the center and work your way out to the edge on either side making less pleats as you go. so the final length is 72"x30" to 32" at the top
(make it wider if it feels too small for your body. it should feel right and flow over your shoulders rather well)

4. sew the pleats

5. hand sew the hide to the top edge of the fabric (where you pleated)
Hint: it might make it easier to use a small hole punch in the hide to thread the needle through.

6. hem the side edges of the fabric (save the bottom for the end)

7. take the belt and cut in directly in the middle.

8. sew the cut ends of the belt to the top corners of the cloak at a 45* angle.
(a hole punch is nice to have here as well)

9. try the cloak on and cut it to length then hem the bottom.

10. look bad ass

I made mine a while a go and didn't think to take pictures of the process sorry :/
if any of my instructions are unclear don't hesitate to ask.

EDIT: added pictures in first post for TL;DR type people

Tarburz the Drang:
I should also mention that to strap it on you cross the belts over your chest and buckle them behind you. this really helps with weight distribution and keeping all the weight off you throat.

Cailean Somerley:
You should add a picture of your finished cloak so people can see how similar it is to the Stark costumes.

Tarburz the Drang:
I will tomorrow. it's getting too dark out for a good picture

Bane Blackhammer:
I think I understand everything except the belt aspect, and how it's supposed to be worn.  If you could somehow get a pic or two showing that part, I'd be very grateful.
