legal tunics/vests
Theron Ulfsson:
1.3.1 - A tunic, shirt, dress, or vest of crotch length or longer. Bare chest is acceptable if allowed by law and or camp/event rules, but only if the rest of the costume meets or exceeds minimum garb standards. Clarification: Obviously modern clothing such as sweat-pants, pajama pants, modern skirts, etc is not acceptable.
I've never been to a large event, but it seems like from picters and videos I've seen, this part of the rule is not enforced strictly. Am I right? In picters from various events and a video from Ragnarok, I see some people wearing authentic looking garb, but with shirts and vests that are shorter than crotch length. When are exceptions made?
Edit: I tried to inclued picters from facebook, but it dose not work.
Sarus:
When the rest of the costume exceeds minimum standards.
The idea is to stop someone from fraying up a plain shirt and calling it a "tunic". If a top that's shorter than crotch length is part of a well-made set of garb, then it should be good to go.
Fel:
it's rooted in history. if you look at tons of older art you'll see people that basically look like <snip> biddies that think leggings are pants. A shirt that goes just past your crotch/mid thigh and tight hosen or leggings. Shorter shirts are....impractical in period wear, thus the length. i'll admit that even mine is just about as short as it can be and not be too short. Even the easiest way to combat this if yours is too small (besides making it long enough) it a quality tabard to go over it.
Otherwise it looks like a linen t-shirt, not a tunic.
Stellaria:
The reason you see exceptions to the rule in pictures is simply because in most cases, people are too wishy-washy to enforce the rules. Dag is jam-packed with special snowflakes that think that they're too cool to follow the rules, and then most of the rest of 'em are too big of pussies to call them out on it. (eta - This failure to enforce the rules is then justified by them saying "this is a fighting game, garb doesn't matter! Stop being such a nazi!")
All that to say this: Just because all the pictures have jerks breaking the rules doesn't mean it's cool to break the rules. Be above that crap.
Aondor:
you can have shorter tunics they just have to look a certain standard. And be on concept with our image.
