Ilsa's new knife

(1/4) > >>

Alric:
Ilsa needed a new utility knife for Ragnarok, so I made her one.

My tools are currently very limited, so instead of trying to make a knife from hand with no tools other than a file (a project I started but didn't finish last year) I decided to find a suitably medieval-looking modern knife and dress it up.

Here's the original knife, purchased for $7.50 at Walmart:

And here's how it turned out:

All it took was a leather wrap around the handle (using this method), a leather sheath (this tutorial), and 30 seconds of sandpapering to remove FARBERWARE from the side of the blade, and Ilsa has a new knife!

Stellaria:
Sweet!

Thrush Svartehjertet:
AWESOME!!!!!!  Love it.

My new multi tool:

Thinking about dressing it up more too.  Wanted to cut a bottle opener into the back of the blade, like thusly:

but am worried about weakening the blade...

I need to make myself a seax, but I can't find a blank I like. I made a batch of these, which are some blades I re-profiled on my grinder, and sold them all but the one I've been carrying, but it's too modern-looking for my aesthetic taste still.

That's excellent, thanks for sharing that.
