I don't think I'd pass it as garb, and it certainly won't pass as armor. It's just a fun, geeky thing, like pop-top mail or a desktop trebuchet.

So does anyone have any ideas for like patterns? im confused on how to do the hood and make it rigid but still hoodie-esque

Tualarc:
You could use a stiffer interfacing to help keep the shape, the visor could be done with a button hole and button, aside from that it just looks like a standard hoodie with some layered flare.  I would say look for a pattern for a hooded sweatshirt, use some poster board to shape/pattern the gorget, bracers, and spaulders.  I don't think you want a totally stiff hood, just the visor pieces alone make me feel like the hood wouldn't be something you could lay back like normal.

Rojji:
it can lay back like normal http://laughingsquid.com/wp-content/uploads/hoods.jpg that's what perplexes me
