Light is an ongoing problem. It has been a slow process to build up a sufficient stock of tiki's, as well as to maintain the one's we already have . . . you'd think even intoxicated people could avoid the bright burny thing. At Rag 25 nearly all the tiki's we had were from the personal supplies of the groups within Mirkwood. Over time we've been able to acquire more with the assistance of Rag funds, but there are only so many they can buy us each year. And, like I said there's also a bit of a process of attrition. This is why I asked Stell to post Cormac's instructions.

maybe someone can donate a number of tiki's? after summer sales would make it easy. how mayne do you lose by attrition? how many do you need? would you lilke just the torch cans or do you need the bamboo stands also? maybe fabricate some wire brackets so they could be tied to trees?

Donations would be wonderful. We would need the full tiki. We managed to keep most of them in one piece this year, so will likely obtain more next. I sincerely doubt the Coopers would like the idea of us attaching flaming things to their trees.

Flaming trees would solve the lighting problem, though.

I'll donate a couple of torches next year.

Hosting a party, even a fairly casual laid back one, is hard.  At our soiree our guys formed into an awkward receiving line before we shooed them out of it and got them mingling.

I wonder if we could have a competition for "best camp" as an excuse for camps to open up a bit.  Like the rag fashion show but for camps.  "Campstyles of the Rag and Famous"

a Rag Tour might be fun.  at the holidays and at times good for gardens around Pittsburgh there are various House or Garden Tours.  they're neat.

i like the idea someone suggested to some of the photographers of compiling a Who's Who photo gallery.  we could include a link in an FAQ here on the boards.

I was thinking with appropriate sconces of course. or we could do the LED throwie lights i mentioned before just to mark out trees for the drunken stumblers.

you, the party planner, are responsible for buying all of these items ahead of time.  then you submit your receipts to the Nightlife Coordinator and you get a reimbursement cheque.  don't lose your receipts and it's a beautiful system.

I cannot stress this enough.  Part of my headache this year was the number of town runs that needed to be made for *other* people's parties.  And the fact that the first town run of the week took over 4 hours.

Yes but we got the hilarious story of my asking a Sam's Club clerk for digital scales and a money counter, realizing what I said then running away.

Would there be much interest in a revival of the formal feast at rag? I love an excuse to set a pretty table, get dressed up, and eat a dinner with period-inspired dishes served in courses. Or even just buffet style, if serving staff would be too difficult to rustle up.

Something like the feasts served at Father Christmas in Narnia, or Pentwyvern Harvest Feast. Back at Spring Valley, the food vendors would put on a feast of sorts where they sold tickets and served a fancier buffet meal. At Father Christmas, volunteer cooks make the feast and volunteer servants wait tables, serving appetizers, soup, a main course, and dessert. At Harvest Feast they had garb and table decorating contests with prizes.

Basically it would be a catered-somehow dinner on an opt-in basis for those who want to get fancied up and have a feasting-hall dinner with fellow Rag-goers. The dinner could be cooked by interested and proven Dagorhirrim, or a caterer could be called in (if the Coopers allow.) Ticket sales could even offer compensation to the servants that volunteer, maybe? Who knows.

There's a caterer linked right off the cooper's lake website, so i imagine they'd allow it.

I'm not sure the best way to finance such an event though.

Ticket sales.
That's why I was wondering how much interest there would be. Tickets could even be offered at the same time as pre-reg if that would make it easier to hire a caterer ahead of time. Offer pre-reg till a specified date, then have a set number of tickets available at Troll to be bought onsite.

That's not to say that funding couldn't be subsidized by Ragnarok - you'd have to ask Dev, I guess.

I'd be interested, and could actually see my period dance party meshing nicely with that...

There are many reasons we do not hold the feast like we used to at past Rags. Attendance numbers are a big reason. If you can get it catered and cover it with extra fees... go for it. But I guarantee you will not find enough volunteers to do it in house. We couldn't even cover troll, security and medics this year. No way are you going to find people to cook for about 800.
I would love to see a feast, so we can show off our great garb and fancy feast gear. I just don't see it being feasible with the people we now have.

Yay! You got to experience our last ever Ketch/Botch feast. Loved seeing people sitting in the grass and watching bardic afterwards. We were too busy dying at that point. Phew!
