Dagorhir-Recommended Safety Equipment

I recently placed an order for some Zoombang Kneepads, and I'm eager to see how those treat me--I'm tired of scraped-and-bruised-up knees.
This weekend, some SCA friends are taking me to one of their events, and a cup is essentially mandatory. Are there any particularly nifty cups I should look out for, or do you think a random academy cup will serve me well enough?
And while we're on the subject, what other safety equipment would you recommend me for dagorhir?*
*Don't go out of your way to bash the SCA, if you feel the need to point out that gear is inadequate for cross gaming, so be it, but I'm mostly interested in Dag recommendations here. My SCA friends will help me when it comes to SCA.

I'd say a cup for dag. That's pretty much all you need.
If you have a particularly weak spot you want to protect, you can put armor on it.
(The same advice goes for the SCA other than the mandatory armor)

The Nutty Buddy. Look it up, you'll understand why it's perfect, especially if you've ever let anyone kick you while you're wearing just a normal cup. >_<.
I'd also suggest a pair of MMA gloves. Not for punch blocking, but because I have terrible luck and every few practices/battles I seem to somehow hit my hand against my opponent's handle or something equally painful. They help reduce what can get hurt, and if you cover them/paint them/plastidip them right, they can look awesome. So, they help if you have bad luck like I do.

I rock the Shock Doctor "Bioflex" cup in padded Shock Doctor compression shorts... It's pretty freakin' awesome.

Kneepads, gloves and cup are the most essential things I can think of. If you're using MMA gloves, make sure to spend the money and get ones that have thumb protection, that's probably the easiest place to get injured. Or get some awesome leather clamshells or something historical like that. :)
