question about making a sword
Vestial:
so in rule 4.1.11.2.1 - Minimum dimensions of 1.25 inch by 2.75 inches. does this mean the sword has to have a square shape? Or can the edge be tapered to have a more realistic look to it?

(sorry for the bad ASCII art but it serves the purpose)
Syre Jari Kafghan the Dark Knight:
that rule has been removed from the rulebooks, there is no minimum dimensions to blades anymore.

... as of next ragnarok* technically, a sword could be tapered down *to* 1.25 inches, but it'd still be kind of clunky. [/pedantic jackass]
Like Jari said, a motion striking down the dimmension rules (besides tip through template rules) was passed at rag, so more will be possible, however (and forgive me if i'm wrong) your question leads me to believe that you're pretty new yeah? Best not to try any tapering, or minimal profile weapons until you've got a knack for building safe, if clunky, weapons.
Vestial:
I am rather new but it's not the first time I've built any foam weapons. Just one that is Dag legal it will be my first. I had no intention of tapering on this build, but as I build more weapons I just wanted to know ahead of time. Thanks for clarifying this for me. And I'm sure more questions will come in the future.
Cassin:
I thought I had foamsmithing experience until I got into Dag. There is a LOT of science behind making weapons that survive and pad for full-contact play. Good on you that you know to keep it simple for now. First, master the basic builds. Then at least study the more advance builds. Then it might be reasonable to try and push the limits of foamsmithing science yourself, but always look at your experiments with suspicion and doubt so you don't let a failure pass.
The new dimension rules are very new, and very few people really know what to do with them aside from make the slightly sub-minimum clubs that have been passing in some places for a while now. The slight edge you indicated in your first post may actually hit equally or better than a flat edge under the right circumstances, but don't bother with it until you have at least a few regular weapons to compare it with. But do NOT make the profile genuinely pointy.
