a walking sword

(1/3) > >>

Korath Thorsson:
yeah i know it sounds weird but a friend of mine is wanting to join dag but has one problem, he needs a cane to get around. so after trying what weapons i have he decided on a greatsword because it was easiest to swing. so now to my question, this sword will obviously not be stabbing so what will be a good way to pad it so he could use it to walk or fight?

Grim.:
Make him a miniglaive instead

Korath Thorsson:
first we had the idea for a danish greataxe, then i brought up the idea for a temple spear, i'll go over it with him but if he is dead set any ideas to make it work?

Anvildude:
I'd say make it almost like a stabby tip, with good leather reinforcement over the core, but use basic bluefoam as though making a non-stabby sword.  Then, the important part, should be the fabric going over it.  Make sure it's really, really tough.  If you can get a patch of kevlar, use that- the goal here is to make sure that when using it as a cane, it won't get worn through on the rough ground.

Whisper Moonson:
Make a red sword without a stabby, using tough fabric on the tip, and expect to frequently replace the cover and rebuild the blade.

Or make a miniglaive instead, with the expectation of replacing the pommel frequently. That's probably the easier way to go, maintenance-wise.
