BADON HILL VII - Sept 20-23

(1/7) > >>

BRVTVS:
The days grow shorter and autumn begins to creep across the lands. Armies from many realms come together for one last chance at glorious battle before winter snows bind them home. For years, warriors eager to earn another tale to tell around the fire have come forth from all across the land to meet on that cruel hill. Today their thirst for glory still drives them, but the rumors of gold have given them a new hunger. Along with the warriors, others having heard these tales gather beside them. Musicians, dancers, tradesmen, and even a traveling carnival have been drawn to these harvest rituals.Together they create a world to themselves, filled with gold and glory.

Ave Dagorhir!

Badon Hill VII is coming up quick and this year promises to be our most glorious yet! Last year was an unparalleled success where over 350 people enjoyed parties and battles like no other Dagorhir event ever offered! Many, many people told us it was the best Dagorhir event they had ever attended and this year we plan to make it even better!

The event will be held at Pioneer Park Campground, in Somerset PA. We will be open Thursday, Sept 20th at 6pm till Sunday, Sept 23rd at noon. Don't expect much to be going on until Friday morning, but we will have a full day's worth of events planned for then and you won't want to miss any of it!

Tickets are $20 and available onsite, regardless of arrival time. No preregistration is necessary for this event.

We've got a lot of awesome events filling the weekend. Non-stop skirmish fighting and battles Friday, Camelot Carnival Friday night, epic Theme battles for Saturday, the 2-man Tournament, and a Saturday night festival that will include our now legendary Spoils of War Auction as well as music and entertainments to delight all.

Badon needs volunteers! We could really use a few more people to step up and help us make this event more terrific for everyone. In particular we need medics, field heralds, and weapons checkers. Volunteers willing to donate some time to these worthy causes should contact Bruce Lindsay (aka Brutus) on facebook or at dagorhirny (at) dagorhir (dot) com.

Merchants are welcome as always. There is no merchanting fee, but you must still register at Troll and we do ask that you let us know you're coming; please contact Brutus using the contact information above. Last minute merchants are allowed, but don't expect the best spots or to be mentioned in our event guide.

This year we will also feature a Barbarian Trading Post late Saturday afternoon, so be sure to bring all your baubles and treasures!

As much as we want to accommodate everyone at this event, due to liability concerns no minors will be allowed on site without a legal guardian on site with them, and no pets will be allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS! We often have to turn around car loads of people because they've brought a minor without a guardian, or a dog. Everyone, including us, HATES this. Please don't put all of us through it. Don't bring them and make sure new people know not to either.

This year we will continue our wildly popular new tradition of the Camelot Carnival on Friday night. Everyone is given a set amount of "gold" coins at Troll when they check in. More gold can be won playing the carnival games and betting on duels as well as by performing for your fellow guests. There's also gold prizes for winning battles and tournaments, but the surest way to get gold is by contributing a game for everyone else to play during the carnival. Gold can be spent on drinks at our bar, betting on fights, hiring mercenaries, and playing the carnival games, but you'll want to save it up for the Spoils-of-War Auction on Saturday night where we sell off a big pile of loot purchased from the merchant's area! That's right, we will again spend the profits from the event on a pile of prizes everyone has a chance to win!

Ideas for carnival games could be a bean bag toss, dance contests, guess your race, etc. Think carnival style games. We will collaborate with anyone who wants to host a game to make sure their games are fair, and we will provide the house "bank" for their prizes. Groups who bring out the best games will receive the most gold to keep for themselves at the end of the carnival. Someone who makes a custom Roulette wheel will get more then someone hosting a "shoot the goblin off the apple" range with arrows, but both would be generously rewarded. Musicians, dancers, and performers will all also earn gold for entertaining the Carnival's crowds. If you or your unit want to create a game for Badon, again contact Brutus as Bruce Lindsay on Facebook or at dagorhirny (at) dagorhir (dot) com.

There’s a lot to know about how the gold games will work at Badon, so I will start another thread dedicated to here: http://www.dagorhir.com/forums/index.php/topic,25893.0.html

I'm more excited than ever before to share this event with all of you. Last year was legendary, and now that we’ve ironed out more of the kinks and everyone has a better idea of how great this can be, I’m sure we will have an event that will be told of fondly around campfires for years to come. Be sure to be a part of it!

P.S. As always, everything is subject to change (except the stuff about pets and minors, don't bother going there) so be sure to check this thread again for updates. I will edit this event with new information as it becomes available.

Graymael:
A TV crew will be filming a promotional trailer at Badon Hill!

A production company wants to try to sell a Reality Show based on following a Dagorhir unit through the year, culminating in a show about Ragnarok.  One of the producers is an old Dagorhir...and their backers include the guy who created "American Gladiators" and "The Biggest Loser."

At Badon, they want to film part of their first episode and a trailer to use in selling their idea to the networks.  They're looking for excellent costumes, terrific characterization, and mind-boggling feats of stoopid bravery/cunning.

See you there!

Graymael

PS: Blackhawk is stepping up to coordinate with the production company, so look to BH for updates!

athelas:
So sorry to be missing my first Badon. Have been to all except this one. Everyone please have fun, be safe and make us look good on film :)

BRVTVS:
You will be missed Athelas!
and thanks for passing on the info Grayael!

Also, I see this thread isn't getting much action at all, but there's a lot of discussion going on here:

Scheiny the Space Oracle:
STD/HIV testing near Badon!!!

[STI = Sexually Transmitted Infections, folks say that now rather than STD]

there is still time to schedule an appointment to make sure you get your checkup in.

Some of you guys may come from areas where HIV/AIDS/STI testing is unavailable or you have reasons to not want to go.  maybe you know everyone who works in the clinic, that sort of thing.
Everyone who is sexually active should get tested at least once a year,  every 6 months is better,  and ideally after each new partner.  Personally, if a guy tells me he's never gotten tested, i won't get involved with him at all.

Badon this year will only be about an hour away from Pittsburgh and our many, many health clinics.  Here are phone numbers and addresses for several sexual health clinics that do quick, confidential HIV/AIDS/STI testing on a sliding price scale, sometimes free!

Pittsburgh Aids Task Force
412-345-7456

Pittsburgh, PA 15206

Planned Parenthood of Western PA

933 Liberty Ave
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Persad Center
412-441-9786
5150 Penn Ave
Pittsburgh, PA 15224

All of these organizations also donated generously to The Condom Fairy Brigade at Rag last year.

do you need to go on a shopping trip?  Take a jaunt down to Pittsburgh and have your unit all get tested together!  Or get dropped off at a clinic while your ride goes shopping.  Go in garb!  The nurses will get a kick out of it!  Or stick around the area a day early or late to go.  It's a great time to do something so important!

If anyone has information on STI testing services closer to Pioneer Park, please post it!

and tell your doctor you want HIV/STI testing as part of your annual physical!

unfortunately, most people only think of testing after the fact, for confirmation of infection, and that has created a stigma against it, when it is actually an oft-neglected part of simply monitoring one's health, like getting eyes and blood pressure tested.

most of those after-the-fact visits could have been avoided had the other partner gotten regular screenings, as many people who have an STI do not show symptoms and are unaware of their status.

fact is, some people aren't able to obtain such services where they live.  Rag brings them very close to a city with a plethora of resources.  hopefully, if anyone needs them, they'll get the information.
