War Hammers
Silasil:
I am considering making a hammer but I would appriciate any input on them, pros/cons, as well as building tips
thanks
Harek:
One of the guys in my old unit named Roc made a really cool-looking warhammer and used it for years. His was made to look like a historical warhammer, not a massive Conan-ish maul type of thing. If the former is what you have in mind, try dropping him an email (at tsroroc******.com) to ask how he made it.
Seiichirô:
Pro: You can get some monster momentum off a swing with all the weight in the head of a red hammer.
Con: Reduced striking surface area.
Dominus:
Silasil, an additional drawback is the reduction in your speed. A war hammer is just a blunted variation of an axe.
Other variables depend on your fighting style and on what kind of hammer you want. If you want a big red Conan-ish maul (thanks, Hárekr!), you need the support of a shieldman for defense. But as Scion says, you'll deliver devastating red hits. (I had a guy with a veritable Maul of Titans knock me off my feet at my third battle, I'll never forget that.) With a lighter smaller hammer, you can use a shield and won't have to rely on others so much for defense.
As for building tips, I've only had one hammer. That was years ago and it was cylindrical cushion foam with a core pushed through it. It would probably not pass now. But combine that with Brother Nolan's excellent tips for mace building and you'll probably have a winner. Hope that helps!
Pickles:
Being from where you are from i would talk to Nolan if it's a red mace you have in mind. Or to V'Hil or Brutus if you're thinking more along the lines of a hammer or a warclub like nutstomp. If you're wanting a blue mace go to Nolans website listed in the how-to section of this site.
